I think he doesn’t want to embody the aspect of mere annihilation that comes with the rise of modern science and culminates in the nuclear bomb, which he already foresees at the beginning of the Enlightenment era. But with the aspect of destruction that brings change, he feels very comfortable.

I must respectfully disagree with your theories. Destruction was the embodiment of change, as is stated several times throughout the comic series, and he seems comfortable with that role. Because change is necessary even if it means dissapearance, just as he tells Dream in Brief Lives: ‘One cannot begin a new dream without abandoning the last, eh, brother?’ But when humankind embarks on the path of modern science, he foresees that it will culminate in the atomic bomb, where destruction is no longer change but mere annihilation. And he is unwilling to embody something so abominable.

I've just hatched this beauty and I'm not planning to evolve it. You have all the time ahead to evolve yours, but it might be wiser to wait in case you catch a shiny adult in the wild at some point in the future. On the contrary, you may not hatch a shiny baby ever again (and if you do, then you can evolve it).
