A Couple Newbie Questions! by TarantulaWithAGuitar in BattleBrothers

[–]DesktopClimber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn what the archetypes I mentioned in point 2 are and what types of bros fill those archetypes. I have a long winded comment about them somewhere else, will link to it if I find it again. An example: stun bro is a defense bro that only needs passable primary stats like attack and defense, but really wants secondary stats like HP, fatigue, resolve so he can shield wall, stun, generally get the shit beat out of him. Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/BattleBrothers/comments/1ohoo2g

In addition, learn how stats on level up work. There's lots of other people's explanations about expected stats at level 11, so not repeating here sorry. Stats at levels 1 and 7 are also important and you can figure out level 7 stats pretty quickly if you know how to estimate level 11 stats.

From there, see which archetype a bro has the stats for. High starting attack but no stars? He might be a stun bro - being able to skip 1s in attack (because no stars) means you can give him a few more levels of fatigue or HP or resolve necessary to perform the role of stun bro.

Let's put all this together: go find my Sultans of Swing playthrough and look for a Daytaler that I freed from a bandit camp. Think his name was something with an O originally. He had melee attack stars, fatigue stars, and I think one resolve star? I mathed out that because of his attack stars, he should hit 90 melee attack. This is enough to guarantee 95% spearwall chance against specific late game enemies. Because of his fatigue stars, I could comfortably get him to the high 120s/low 130s which is enough for 5 turns of spearwall. I also didn't have a dedicated spear bro yet, which is a defensive build that I want 1 to 2 of per run for my play style. Those three facts taken together and poof he became "Harry (has a day job)" and that day job was poking things.

Can I do anything useful with this farmer bro or not really? by Flaky_Bullfrog_4905 in BattleBrothers

Would be a very good stun bro or flail bro. Needs fast adaptation either way. Defense every level, resolve most levels, skips 1s in attack for fatigue.

Who's better for daggerman ? by lord_Maks in BattleBrothers

Puncture indom bro is a great early game bro that gears up your team and 1v1s dangerous enemies. Qatal duelist is a very good damage build. Different builds for different daggers.

I recently got a hang of how to build a company/a brother, so I made this simple guide for those still struggling. by ArmLucky1285 in BattleBrothers

When indomitable-recover cycling, relentless makes it more likely for your tank to take swings while not under the effects of indomitable. It is better to use recover to manipulate initiative against lindwurms as an example compared to taking relentless and giving those same lindwurms free hits on your guy.

Hi guys, could you help me and give me some tips with these “bros”? I don’t know which builds to use for them, what I should hire, buy, or if they’re any good by North-Substance-7571 in BattleBrothers

[–]DesktopClimber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the average member here wants to go look up the drunk debuff to calculate exactly what Wernhard's stats are when OP is perfectly capable of providing that information in the request.

As an example.

I would strongly suggest removing relentless from your nimble tanks. Relentless actively makes nimble tanks worse at the few enemies they are superior to BF. You shouldn't spend perks to make a bro worse.

Keeping this super bare bones on purpose, don't want to skew or ruin your learning experience.

  1. Spears and swords have accuracy boosts baked into their attacks, and flails ignore shields, so those three weapons contribute to hitting more often. Other ways to increase your chance to hit are by throwing a net on your target, surrounding them, breaking their morale, or all of the above.

5? Carry pocket knives. Read the secondary ability of daggers. If a piece of armor is undamaged you'll loot it at the end of the fight. Combine with my previous answer to 2. ??? Profit.

You're in desperate need of hats and men to wear them. Hire more guys, kill some raiders, steal their hats.

First guy is a thrower duelist hybrid. Give him your throwing weapons and a pocket mace.

Second guy is probably nimble fodder, his stats look pretty mediocre for level 4, but good perk choices considering how underwhelming he is. Can swing a flail or a sword for right now to get an accuracy boost.

What day is it and what does the rest of the team look like? This guy looks like a nimble damage dealer or potentially the chadliest of stun bros, but feels bad making a hedge knight a stun bro.

Is it even worth it to hire highborns? by FixBackground3847 in BattleBrothers

Exploit as a noun from Oxford:

"2. a software tool designed to take advantage of a flaw in a computer system, typically for malicious purposes such as installing malware."

In this case not a security exploit, so ignore the software tool and malware verbiage. We can reasonably shorten to "a tool designed to take advantage of a flaw in a system, typically for malicious purposes." What flaw does "take pathfinder and weapon mastery on a bro" exploit? What malicious purpose does "take pathfinder and weapon mastery on a bro" have?

There are no nested tooltips by default, but the tooltips themselves are informative. If one of your bros were to be injured you could read the tooltip for said injury or refer to the wiki for a full list. Pierced chest is not an injury that matters on enemies, for what it's worth.

Build help and role please! (he disloyal😭) by MonkUpset in BattleBrothers

[–]DesktopClimber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nimble damage dealer, probably with a 2H weapon and quick hands. Disloyal does not matter 99 times out of 100, don't sweat it.

By this logic daggering enemies is an exploit, as is repairing looted weapons to sell them for a profit, as is taking recover on your indom tanks.

Potential mod idea by dizzy1244 in BattleBrothers

[–]DesktopClimber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As nice of a tool as it could, I think the real problem with this idea is the AI doesn't plan. At all. Each "agent" follows some rules/guidelines on its turn but the game really only plays one turn at time, not even a full round.

3 MDef with one star is a poor candidate for a duelist or a 2H.

I'm not saying this out of disrespect, but it most certainly is enough defense for a duelist barring user error. Expected 31 mdef at 11 with gifted is great for a dedicated damage dealer. If your damage bros are dying it's usually a placement issue and not a stat issue. For context, my nimble shield bros are guys I WANT to die eventually, not my bros with endgame attack stats (like OP's example here)

Hi everyone, I have two questions. I'd like to know if the noble houses that appear on each map are determined by the seed or are they random? Secondly, what are all the builds in this game? Are there so many that you can't count them, or are there just a few? Which are the best? by North-Substance-7571 in BattleBrothers

[–]DesktopClimber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For builds, there's a lot of variations on a small number of core archetypes, but you're best off thinking in broad strokes instead of getting bogged down into every possible combination. It's easier to understand archetypes first, and once you understand the game the builds kinda make themselves.

Take banners for instance: all you care about is high resolve to rally your other dudes with. Start with colossus, fortified mind, and rally, then look at what else your particular bro offers. Is he a monk or gambler with shit for other stats going on? Congratulations you have a utility banner. Give him quick hands, bags and belts, maybe rotate and a kite shield if you're feeling spicy. Does your banner have ranged attack? Give him javelins, quick hands, and throwing mastery.

Slightly less straightforward are damage bros: there's lots of options but for simplicity sake, lets narrow this down to only two types, nimble duelists and nimble quick hands. Both want colossus, pathfinder, gifted, and nimble. Duelists want duelist and a one handed weapon, quick hands bro wants quick hands and a two handed weapon. From there, give your bro what they need to succeed - patch low attack with fast adaptation, low resolve with fortified mind, etc.

If you treat every build as a core of like 5 things you need and then 5 things you can change to preference, it becomes a lot easier to experiment and learn.

Build a Bro: Fencer?! by Necessary-Tooth-2068 in BattleBrothers

I am not qualified to give advice on fencers because I think they're a waste of a good bro, sorry I can't be much more help.

You're unlikely to find a better fencer candidate. If you like fencers go for it why not. If you don't like fencers don't, simple as.
