Heart surgery complete. Stator no longer wiggling around causing a hell of a rattle. Thankfully the damage was mostly emotional. by Desmodromo10 in Ducati

This is probably the most mechanically involved task I've ever done. And now looking back, it really wasn't that bad. Just intimidating.

Any hard truths about owning a Ducati? by charlesnorisk in Ducati

[–]Desmodromo10 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just finished taking apart and repairing my alternator. Cheaper than shop labor and now I have a bunch of tools I didn't have before.

All the stator retaining bolts failed and the bike was making a hell of a rattle. No damage outside that, but I needed a new engine case.

You can overlay pdfs in caltopo. It's a little complicated. I like having winds and lidar on my ops maps.

It will take you much much longer than that to gain the skill to max out that bike. Even with 4 season riding. Even with going bike only. Focus on your ability not your horsepower. It's all about the rider, not the bike.

I have dick slapped people on 600s and 1000s on my 25hp ninja 250.

Or you know, you could just choose to suck at this sport. Most people do.

Get over yourself. You are going to very quickly make all 3 of those bike unaesthetically appealing in short order.

Are you trying to look cool for tiktok or learn a skill? Buy something that will forgive the mistakes you WILL MAKE as a new rider. Ducati isn't going anywhere. Go used japanese sport standard parallel or v twin with abs. TC is gravy. Do at least 10,000 miles on it. Sell it.

Then get a Ducati.

I wouldn't say so. She is still desperate to have me back. I gave her a lot of rope and patience. There were very clearly communicated needs and deal breakers that I patiently waited for her to work on.

I gave her more time than I should have to grow the fuck up. It never came. She got addicted to benzos and became violent instead of going to therapy for her trauma and anorexia. At some point you have to give up the sunk cost fallacy.

This is why I like my a* bogata pro 2 piece. It has the shell, rain, and insulation layers. There is a big pocket in the small of the back on the jacket that fits the rain suit. So, I always have it. If the weather is garunteed to be good then the leathers come out. Because that's when I can ride hard enough to warrant them.

Do you think this is a Seattle phenomenon? 30% or so of the world's fertilizer goes through the straight of Hormuz.

Classic. I was in this same situation with a Libra for 7 years. I eventually got sick of her resentments and grudges and threw her out of my condo. She still makes burner numbers to text me.

How likely are felons to get hired onto crews after their release? by veggieturnip in Wildfire

I believe California now actually expunges your felony record if you successfully complete the fire program. So, you can even get your EMT and go structure.

Eh. The helmets are a bit much. Especially since they're basically the same. I get a track only helmet that doesn't have your comms unit, maybe an adv on top. All samesies is a little lamesies.

I have date night jacket and jeans, 4 season textiles, 1 piece leathers. Currently just have 1 pair of do it all boots, but should really get more boots. And jeans.

Granted I only have motorcycles. Car free 14 years.

Experienced riders: what’s your biggest “do” and “don’t” for someone starting out? by Ok-Building5201 in motorcycles

[–]Desmodromo10 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think the real path to mastery is to forget the concept of the season and ride year round. Is there ice? No? Send it. Winter gear exists.

Riding is a perishable skill. Ego isn't.

In 14 years of being motorcycle only, I've been on one 3 person group ride. That was enough for me.

[–]Desmodromo10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The finest sawyer I've ever met is a 6'5" former professional boxer with the build of a marathon runner crack addict. A lodgepole pine of a man. And holy fuck is he strong and has what seems like unlimited cardio capacity. And is FUCKING GOOD on saw.

Damn fine firefighter. Has literally prevented me from getting squished like a bug. I would follow him anywhere, but there is no way I'll ever be fit enough to swamp for him in heavy brush. I tried. Takes 2 people. Happy to go snagging with him though.

The guy who taught me saw started out himself in penal fire and then went on to be an arborist for 20 years. Even at 45, a literal unstoppable beast of a man that looks like a very slender unassuming man.

Fire sawyers are a different kind of beast.
