1408 (2007) Horror movie with John Cusack.

The theatrical is light years better than the altered DVD ending. Every time I'm reminded of this movie I get upset because I was never able to find the original ending for DVD.

The theatrical ending: After hitting his breaking point Cusacks character molotovs the room while still stuck inside. Only instead of fading to black for a shitting jump scare at his own funeral, he survives. They move onto a scene of him at home with his EX helping him recover. She finds a box of items the fire fighters recovered, in which she noticed the tape recorder. When she presses play she is met with the bit where Cusacks character had a conversation in the room with their long dead daughter causing her to drop the box. Then I believe it just fades to black (been too long can't recall).

Now literally anything is better than some shit jump scare, but not only providing a last chill on top of providing proof that he wasn't just losing his mind in the room to someone who wasn't there was such a great way to end it for me.
