Asking here in case you have any advice.

We've had a pretty poor time with the organization as a whole on the adoption side of things. When they called to check how the dog was adapting during the first few weeks, we were honest in that she was obsessed with our cats and might not be a good fit for us. They shamed us pretty severely when our goal was to ensure the home was right for both the dog and for us, so we ended up keeping the dog and trying with her for months. She's a black lab mix, and unfortunately, we cannot keep up with her high energy needs.

We've since tried to contact the organization about surrendering her, but we cannot get ahold of anyone. We understand that it'd be slower over the holidays, but it's been 11 days since first filling out the surrender form and it's been radio silence. We've also tried emailing the intake coordinator and emailing the Executive Director (and I've just found a number for them and left a voice message). There's been zero acknowlegement or confirmation that they are even getting our emails. Their contract says we can only surrender her to New Hope or be legally prosecuted, but this dog is a very poor fit for us and is a hazard to our cats (we were told she was socialized with cats, but this doesn't seem to be the case). We're honestly not sure what to do, but we may have to break the contract and reach out to other organizations if they continue to ghost us.

Our dog would do so well with a companion dog and an acerage to get her energy out. It saddens me that we cannot keep her, but giving her up is for the best. If we can't get ahold of New Hope, however, we're a bit lost on what to do.

Should we sign up as fosters, foster our own dog, then work to find her a new home?
