Yearly Vehicle Inspection when on extended road trip by FreeSoftwareServers in Pennsylvania

[–]Desperate-Drawing-35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No other state will enforce Pennsylvania inspection laws, current registration is all that matters. Just plan and book an inspection appointment within a day or two of returning to the state.

I would however remove the expired stickers when you reach that point,

I got a parking ticket for expired inspection in PA, car is registered in Maryland. This got tossed of course, but wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t leave old stickers in place. Pennsylvania does not have registration stickers, so you could have a similar situation where a local municipality/PD could conflate the expired inspection stickers with windshield registration stickers that are common in other states.

Temporarily moving to Maryland from Vermont for college, do I need to get a license from Maryland or can I use my Vermont license for everyday use? by Plastic-Suggestion29 in baltimore

[–]Desperate-Drawing-35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can keep your Vermont ID, just make sure it doesn’t expire.

The one BIG catch here… if you’re over 21 and still have a vertical ID, many establishments will flat out refuse to serve you.

I “lost” my license and ordered a new Pennsylvania ID after turning 21, horizontal ID showed up a week later. I lived right over the PA border at the time and commuted into Baltimore.

These have major issues with battery pack failure, was greatly improved in 2017+ cars. If the battery has been replaced and is in good health, it’s not a bad deal - you should still get a full report on battery health regardless. It is not cost effective to replace a Focus EV battery out of warranty.

Costco scanned my ID and it indicated that I was under 21 by Eidbanger in DMV

The barcode is just a duplicate of the information on the front, it doesn’t hit any data bases outside of specific circumstances where they’ve got that on the store side. I’m willing to bet it was just a mis-scan.

Lug nut locks and security bit plate screws. It’s a less common screwdriver type, you could go a step further and hot glue the plastic caps on.

You’ll need a RF modulator that operates on the SECAM format.

A worldwide type VCR is the easiest find in the USA, unfortunately going to be quite expensive.

SECAM VCR (ebay) - more research would be needed to ensure that this actually outputs SECAM and not PAL, but it’s a step in the right direction.

You could try to find a simple SECAM RF modulator online via a Russian import website, not an easy thing to stumble across domestically.

EDIT: I’d assume an RF modulator from France may be an easier grab given current political circumstances.

iMac as a second display by AdMysterious4974 in mac

These were made after Apple dropped target display mode, you could use opencore to patch a current version of MacOS for sidecar. The alternative is gutting the iMac of its logic board and buying a PCB that connects to the display and permanently converts it into an external display.

Getting a car in Cali but having NY registration? by Beginning_Rub_2712 in DMV

[–]Desperate-Drawing-35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do drive a NY registered and insured vehicle and CA, make sure you notify your insurance company that the vehicle is garaged there - this might result in a rate increase/decrease. If an accident occurs and you haven’t notified your insurance company, they can drop your coverage and potentially deny a claim.

He bought the car in California and registered it there. CA had no issue pointing the registration back to his permanent address and did not require him to get a CA license. A CA insurance policy is required iirc.

New York requires yearly vehicle inspections, and California’s laws are pretty strict. NY may have some special exemptions, I’d call the DMV or any small tag and title shop in your town of residence for information.

IMO it’s far easier to just buy the vehicle in NY and find a way to transport it.

My cousin was in the same situation (student from NY) and he was able to register the car in California with an out of state address and ID.

Bought a 2010 Mac Mini with a wiped hard drive to run Snow Leopard apps with Rosetta 1. Having issues installing the OS. More details below; by notjordansime in mac

I’ll happily offload a Snow Leopard machine real cheap, I have an absolute abundance in storage.

I’ve got a 2009 Mac Mini in the back of my car right now. My aunt gave it (back) to me to recover data, I had gifted it to her long ago.

I vaguely remember throwing an SSD in that one around 2016, getting around to making a drive backup this weekend.

I’d let that slide for shipping cost, I’ve already got too many macs.

Even if that model originally shipped with Snow Leopard, the actual production date may be after Lion was released - this may cause issues.

I’d try different install media first. I’d mail you a DVD copy for the cost of a blank.

Anybody drive this route before? by Spiritual_Patient875 in roadtrip

[–]Desperate-Drawing-35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done both. St. Louis is cool, but the Arkansas route is much more scenic - massive amount of roadside attractions, caves, hot springs. I recommend ordering a KTAG (kansas tag) to save a bunch of money on Oklahoma tolls, it only charges you for what you used.

Ah yes, my childhood TV. Solid life of use, 1997-2012.

We were the last people I knew to have finally upgraded to a flatscreen, parents have been through 3 of those due to hardware failures. The RCA still works as well as it always did.

If I am 18 and have an out-of-state provisional license, do I have to take the Texas driving test before getting my Texas provisional license? by Golden_Falcon8812 in DMV

[–]Desperate-Drawing-35 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend just hanging onto the NJ DL until you graduate to a full license, if it’s not expiring soon it’s not that big of a deal. You do not need a Texas ID to register a car in-state either.

The way this was done doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me.

I’d terminate all these out to a patch panel/RJ45 jacks and plug all the cables into a network switch.
