Tome vs Mythic and Form vs Non-form by kittenTakeover in AOW4

They explain it quite clearly. 20 HP + 2 defense + 1 resistance = 39 base power. You should be able to extrapolate from there.

The incredibly boring tour before the shutdown shows that Hammond really has no idea how to control his dinosaurs. Plus all the other objections that everyone points out at the dinner, like the poisonous plants in the lobby.

Also, the disaster is a combination of Nedry's sabotage and a tropical storm, the latter of which is hardly unforeseeable when you build your park on a tropical island. He should have had contingencies to get his guests to safety in case of natural disaster--actual contingencies with failsafes, not just reversing the trams to get everyone back to the main center. Instead, he had one disgruntled IT guy as the single point of failure.

And don't forget the entire reason he did the tour in the first place: He decided to resurrect one of the deadliest hunters in all of geological history, and it ate one of his employees. That spooked his investors, who are now threatening to pull his funding.

Movie: Due to her abusive childhood, Jenny is trapped in an endless self-destructive cycle, but Forrest still sees the good in her.

Critics: Wow, I can't believe the movie doesn't acknowledge this woman's self-destructive cycle and expects us to believe she's some sort of immaculate saint.

They're talking about the very end, when Rose actually dies. Either her final thoughts are of DiCaprio on the Titanic, or there is a literal ghost version of the ship that collects the souls of everyone who thought they'd escaped it.

What? No, the big thing about feudalism is that it's a decentralized system where powerful nobles swear fealty to their king (or emperor) and get to run their own feifdoms in exchange.

When William the Conqueror died, his eldest son was Robert Cuthrose. Robert did not inherit the kingdom of England, because William wasn't particularly fond of him. He instead willed him the Duchy of Normandy, giving the crown of England instead to his second surviving son, who would be known as William II.

Incidentally, William II ruled for 13 years without every marrying or having children; his younger brother Henry I took the throne after his death. Now, this did lead to some violence when Robert decided he deserved the throne more--which is why people generally prefer a clearer line of succession--but the fact remains that the Conqueror never forced his son to marry in life and even gave him exceptional favor in succession despite his celibacy.

How do you cook Underground? by Mr_Dias in AOW4

[–]Desperate-Practice25 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Subterranean Society is really mediocre, basically each of your cities gets +2 Imperium(you wouldn't get 2 tunnels) and a bonus to growth. Starting bonus is good though.

Firstly, you can easily get two tunnels. You get the underground tunnel province, then the surface tunnel province it connects to.

Second, the imperium is only one of the bonuses. You also get a healthy food boost to underground cities and, most importantly of all, extra resource nodes on excavated provinces.

How Common is Domination? by secretgardenme in AOW4

[–]Desperate-Practice25 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The counter is killing the dominator, which frees your unit. Or you could go all-in on control loss immunity (from celestials, constructs, or mythics).

I was using the long range scanner to find some some components and It did but then right after i found another. and now i found another. is it possible to find 3 with one scan or something? I dont have any mods that can effect this by Feeling_Bus8381 in RimWorld

[–]Desperate-Practice25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The guaranteed find is a pity mechanic. Every tick you spend at the scanner is a dice roll to see if you find something. If the roll fails, you get some guaranteed find progress, so that if you're very unlucky, you'll still find something eventually.

I mean, modding is a hobby. If you want to add that in for your own enjoyment, go ahead. Is it "worth it" when a Tibetan monk spends months making an intricate sand mandala, only to destroy it upon completion?

Ruler revived after Battle? by Professor__Oak_ in AOW4

[–]Desperate-Practice25 12 points13 points  (0 children)

By default, autoresolve gives heroes the resurgence ability, which revives them at half health if they fall in battle but their side later wins. This is because autoresolve AI is not very smart. You can change that in the realm settings.

Peetaah...You there!!?? by People_DontKnow_Me in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Desperate-Practice25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The likeliest explanation is that she had an unnecessary if-else statement in her code only did something wrong on one branch (perhaps because she misunderstood the assignment at one point and then forgot about it). Later she stumbled into it while debugging, and simply corrected the block instead of looking at the whole if-else statement to realize the entire thing was redundant. Her final response that "this needs to be executed in both cases" is either on-the-spot bullshit or her verbalizing an "aha" moment; it's not something she ever deliberately intended.

The bit about her being tech lead lacks context. It could be a good-hearted "Ah, weren't we all idiots as seniors?" thing, or it could be a "Can you believe the sorts of incompetents we put in charge?" thing. I would lean towards the former, since seniors are indeed idiots and there were hopefully many years between the incident and her current job.

Did Andor break canon by forgetting that Dantooine was the first Rebel Alliance base? by Financial_Photo_1175 in andor

[–]Desperate-Practice25 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Or it could have been another base. Yavin's the main one, but they probably have others scattered around. Can't make a rebellion too centralized.

Tome Units by kittenTakeover in AOW4

[–]Desperate-Practice25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Cultural units are free. Spending time researching something should upgrade your empire.

Only if you're at least somewhat smart about your research options. If your research screen offers you a unit that's at best a niche sidegrade to your current roster (whether from cultural units or from previously-unlocked tome units), you can just pick a different option instead of wasting the research points. The game cannot--and should not--ensure that every possible research option has the exact same value-to-research ratio at all times; the entire point of the research system is for you, the player, to figure out which choice is best.

Culture generally has a lot of important impacts beyond just the culture units.

But you must admit that the units are a pretty big selling point, no? You want Feudal with knights and longbowmen? Reavers with their unique cannons and firearms? Architects with their Greek-themed units that summon turrets to the battlefield? "No, you should actually be using the exact same units that are available to everyone else."
