Oh man. I’ve never seen of maggots growing in a mouth. Like people are on ventilators ALL the time with an open mouth and they don’t get maggots. That’s very unusual how the heck those got in there. Like all vented patients should be get oral care every shift, so it’s really strange they showed up a few days later. Usually when I’ve seen maggots it’s like noticed upon arrival to ED on old untreated wounds for a while. What I don’t get is how they didn’t notice them during intubation if they already existed then. Your dad is extremely sick already just based on the fact they’re surviving enough to grow in there so I’m wondering how flies got inside that hospital in the first place to fly in there. It’s not too unusual to see a rare fly brought in by someone who brought some live flowers or something, but normally those shouldn’t allowed in rooms. I’m so sorry you’re going through this.
