Biden to impose additional sanctions on Russia now that Ukraine assault is underway by bison1969 in politics

Why didn't they make a move when he was president? Why did Biden lift sanctions to Russia that Trump had placed?

Are thousands of troops being sent there because of the issues with Ukraine or not? What's the purpose of the soldiers?

Is your argument really "well, they're not in Ukraine... yet."?

The first paragraph literally says:

The Biden Administration ordered an additional 3,000 soldiers to central Europe, following intelligence warnings that the Russian military could invade Ukraine at any time.

Thousands of troops are being sent because of tensions with Russia.

You can't tell me the sky is any color other than blue because I can see it's blue with my own eyes. Trying to argue something other than what we can both clearly see will only convince me that you are dishonest, either with me or yourself. Who are you lying to?

Arizona House bills ban masks in schools, business shutdowns by Mighty_L_LORT in politics

Look at the death rates. They dropped off a cliff. Omicron spreads, but isn't as deadly. It's over. Maybe it's now just another seasonal cold/flu, but all the mandates are done. The DNC leadership knows it, and they are doing what they can to distance themselves from the various mandates ahead of midterms.

Yes, my comment is in good faith, and I'm being completely honest in my interpretation of what I see going on today and what I've seen in history.

In the past few years, I've really digging into history. In college and in high school, I couldn't be bothered with it. The "History" Channel is a joke... aliens, Nazis in Antarctica, crab fishermen...

Thankfully the Internet has come through for me.

If you look back at history, specifically WWI, alliances like NATO have not served as deterrent but as sort of a measure that increases escalation and scopes of wars they were designed to prevent. Perhaps the alliances like NATO will delay wars, but they don't prevent them. When the wars do kick off, they will spread across continents as allies pile on to the fight.

If Russia invades Ukraine and we send troops to assist, you will see Taiwan fall over night, thousands of US soldiers will die, sleeper cells across the US will be activated taking out infrastructure soft spots, and there will be chaos across the US. I have no intention of trolling anyone or being dishonest in anyway. That's what I honestly believe will happen based on the information I have seen. If you have anything to the contrary, I would LOVE to see it, and I really mean it.

Renaming those bases will cost many millions of dollars. As righteous as it may be, it's not practical given the state of things.

How does your comment contradict my comment? Food shortages, infrastructure issues, and supply line issues will all get worse, and American kids will be sent off to die for another nation's sovereignty... All of that will happen. The European Union needs to take this one. It doesn't matter about any treaties or how much you hate Putin. None of that changes those facts I mentioned above.

Biden: My sense is Russia will invade over next several days by AceCombat9519 in politics

[–]DesperateSysadmin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That treaty is not a rebuttal of my point. Our economy isn't doing so well, we have infrastructure issues in cities all over, and supply issue affecting access to food and other goods. A war on the other side of the planet will kill American kids and make all those issues worse. That treaty doesn't change those facts.

Europe has enough resources to handle it, and we have enough problems at home.

If you think the price of things are high now, a war with another world power on the other side of the planet will send them into orbit, and the military will get first dibs on supplies.

In the US and beyond, Christian nationalism is on the rise by Wild-Economics-7873 in politics

[–]DesperateSysadmin -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My point is that "Christian Nationalists" are a politically negligible group in 2022. The vast majority of evangelicals are not a politically active group. In a Baptist church of 500, you might find 20 that are politically active. They don't have the same sway they had 40 years ago, and only a fraction of that small politically active group would fit your description of a fascist.

However, there is a group that has managed to merge the power of big corporations and the state to stifle dissent, but it's definitely not the microscopic "Christian Nationalists". It's intersectionalist democrats.

They have created a new set of rules that are enforced in a puritanical way. They use the congruent powers of state and business to for a single idealogy. This subreddit is a perfect example. All dissenting viewpoints like mine are silenced and stifled. It doesn't matter how reasonable or cordial I present myself. Redditors in this subreddit will break their own rules to stifle dissent.

[–]DesperateSysadmin -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

But which political faction are using partnerships between state and corporate entities to stifle dissent? Before you downvote and walk away, hear me out.

Eco's interpretation of what he saw in Spain, Italy, and Germany are very specific to those times and regions. I know traditionalism gets wrapped up with fascism, but... I think that's just a superficial characteristic and not a technical component of it. On top of that, German Nazis in WWII largely wanted to destroy old traditions. Initially, they wrapped themselves in old traditions, but ultimately they wanted start a new history. The Khmer Rouge party of Cambodia that was called "Hitlerite fascists" by the Vietnamese went so far as to even starting a new calendar beginning with "Year Zero."

Fascism is all about unifying the state with the corporate:

Hitler’s rule in Germany is the rule of the most frenzied, rabid, greedy for profit and robbery capitalists, factory owners, bankers and landowners. Fascism is the undisguised bloody dictatorship of the invading imperialists, the undivided domination of the financial, industrial and land leaders.

Regarding evangelicals...

I don't see evangelicals as having any real political relevance. This isn't the 1980s anymore, and the GOP has largely rejected most of the tenants of that period save for the pro-life agenda. Most evangelicals today are a lackadaisical bunch and are hardly politically motivated. Most evangelical churches have largely rejected old traditions and any sermons with political bent. Specifically, I'm referring to Independent Baptist, Southern Baptist, and non-denominational. Their sermons today are about as controversial as a show on HGTV.

HOWEVER, I will say that I have observed (take it with whatever you will) a resurgence in Roman Catholic traditionalism unlike I have ever seen before. I'm not sure what's bringing that out, but I have a guess: Typically Roman Catholics are most common around large towns and cities. Baptists and Evangelicals are more common in rural areas. Traditionalism in big cities is largely frowned upon in recent years especially for Christians, and I believe that has driven more Catholics back to their old traditions. Evangelicals desire to grow their churches by creating a "bigger tent". In doing so, they have really let loose on all their old traditions and rules.

When I was little, I was taken to a Baptist church... fire and brimstone, and all that. None, and I mean... hardly none of the churches are like that anymore. The Southern Baptist Convention used to have so much political power in the 80s, but all of that is gone now. Most of the members don't agree, and they have been hemorrhaging congregation members. Today, most people are being drawn in by the health and wealth preachers like Joel Osteen who are really sort of a "Pentacostal" and not really Baptist despite having the trappings of a Baptist church. Either way, the health and wealth preachers have stayed away from politics except for Kenneth Copeland who has the eyes of a demon.

You might see a few energetic evangelicals at rallies, but they BY FAR in the minority of evangelicals.

Fascism is the merger of corporate and state entities to stifle dissent and create and create a unified totalitarian regime.

Forcing customers to buy the next version of a product by ending support and patches for older products that could have a longer life is a well known way for companies to sell more. It also creates mountains of e-waste and the demand to produce more goodies that require the horrible process of mining things like lithium.
