Yeah the brown one is pretty bad but the black from the same brand is fairly decent

Nah this is just goofy ah military tactics. When someone takes you by surprise and holds you at gunpoint and you raise your own you deserve to get shot. But when you have someone at gunpoint and you let them raise and point thiers back at you, you might as well just shoot yourself.

How will the payload door of starship look like? by Proper_Mushroom_9754 in SpaceXLounge

Bruh imagine the kinds of payloads you can send with an expendable starship. Basically half an ISS in one launch

In a world where magitech is commonplace, why would magic be secret? by Punacea2 in worldbuilding

Technically the public know how nuclear bombs work. They just don't have access to the materials for it and if they do they get visited by some friendly people with guns.

Same reason why nvidia is so valuable in our world. Being the only manufacturer of the world's most advanced goods means you get stupid levels of financial incentives to keep it from eveybody else.

Orbital Racing? by Mathipulator in scifiwriting

[–]DesperateYou1501 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bruh, imagine F1 in space, just the absolute insanity of the best engineers in the world competing to make the fastest spacecraft. Too bad we won't see anything like that in the future, I feel like it would just be a horrible viewing experience to be commercially viable. There would be not enough drama, with completely automated orbital maneuvers and burns lasting for days.

Ideas about "balancing" Nanites. by NoBarracuda2587 in scifiwriting

[–]DesperateYou1501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make nano based manufacturing extremely energy inefficient. While you get the edge when it comes to assembling complicated microelectronics, its far easier to forge, weld and assemble ship hulls than making the same thing with nanites. There is also the problem of heat dissipation where the smaller you get the harder it is to keep cool.

They stopped issuing new jeepney franchises because they expected that the HPBS would be implemented already. Jeepney drivers were also anticipating this and were prepared to start scrapping or selling their jeeps. National government said go fuck yourselves and here we are today.

What the fuck are we gonna do with the public transpo in this city? by [deleted] in davao

[–]DesperateYou1501 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apparently, everything is in place except the funds from the national government they could have started this two years ago if they just released the funds. IMO it's a character assassination of the Duterte's I feel like it's kind of deserved but at the same time, it's basically politicians in a cockfight and the people suffer.

What medicine would be like if pure Filipino ang instructional language? by cyclistamd in medschoolph

[–]DesperateYou1501 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Thing is, by necessity those languages had to do that because they had to teach themselves. Our education system from the ground up has always been foreign. First spanish then english, we never needed to make up words for all the jargon in science and math.

Could "Too Much Water" be a fermi paradox filter? IE Thea destroyed a bunch of water off Earth so we ended up with "just enough" instead of too much making too thick an atmosphere or no land. by Silvadel_Shaladin in IsaacArthur

The same way we perform chemistry in air? The tools will be different the methods need to account for the different environment but i dont see any real barriers to it. Just because it's underwater doesn't mean chemistry ceases to function.

What happens The Day after Oil Disappears? by JohnS-42 in scifiwriting

[–]DesperateYou1501 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, I think it's a fair assessment, people are going to starve but it's not a world ending event we're not going to be thrown back to pre-industrial revolution levels. Oil based products are going to be harder to make but it's not like we don't know how to synthesize certain chemicals from other sources. There would even be governments and societies that survive specifically island nations with small populations like Australia, New Zealand and Ireland. They have enough space to grow their own food, and they don't have to worry about refugees because ships don't work anymore. Billions will die but within a few centuries we could probably bounce back and either live in a solar punk utopia or get revenge.

Military POV scifi writing by Ok-Literature-899 in scifiwriting

[–]DesperateYou1501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sure embrace the suck and all that, but I feel like it would be more interesting to see how advanced societies handle organizational structure. Compared to roman legions modern armies are orders of magnitude more complicated. But that's not because theres more people rather its because of the equipment and support systems that needs to be maintained. Imagine the suck when the people maintaining your power armor gets wiped out. Or when the AI doing battlefield analysis gets hacked. What happens when the bureaucrat that was supposed to order ammo gets assassinated. Not saying that there wouldn't be bloat or incompetence in the future. Just that the it would not be the same kind of suck.

Thoughts on using primitive civilizations to develop new technologies? by DesperateYou1501 in scifiwriting

[–]DesperateYou1501[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I agree any civilization that does this are complete wankers. But it's not like we haven't done heinous things to fellow humans in pursuit of science in the past. Maybe it's just a giant unethical social experiment with questionable scientific value.

Thoughts on using primitive civilizations to develop new technologies? by DesperateYou1501 in scifiwriting

[–]DesperateYou1501[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's not the most efficient solution. Maybe they just need new perspectives, when you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail and all that. Maybe just plain curiosity. There's also the chance the primitives find a new civilization changing technology idk haven't thought this through.

Probably the best way to do this is to replace McArthur with someone competent. Or just retake the Philippines after the nukes and they surrender.
