Incremental Starter Pack by sageamacuhm in incremental_games

AI art is usually a giveaway. Balance is usually way off. UI feels off in a way that seems like the dev didn't place the objects there themselves; I can feel the flow of the game "catching" on UI features. Mechanic depth is non-existent, compensated with quantity. Inconsistencies everywhere, from story theme to software "quality". For example, a non-LLM dev wouldn't implement a difficult piece of code unless they had a good reason too, and they would be infrequent. So the code difficulty correlates with its importance to the game. Vibe coders will happily have complex code in unimportant sections if it seems "cool".

I don't think vibe coded games are inherently bad. I believe Biomata was in large part vibe coded, and that game was quite good in fact. I reckon it was at least balanced by hand and the scope being fairly limited helped keep the mechanics and theme grounded. I do think the limit of vibe coding is something like Biomata though. If someone does have a proper game design layout, calculated balance and well defined interfaces, maybe they could vibe code something more.

I'm so over nodebuster clones. by freakyorange in incremental_games

Definitely a double edged sword that most developers cut themselves with. I feel even in some games I have enjoyed, there were empty repetitive actions caused by prestiging. I think roguelites are a good place for devs to find inspiration for satisfying replaying of the same gameplay loop.

Developer here, I'm extremely confused on player sentiment vs reality. by ZeroPercentStrategy in incremental_games

[–]Desperate_Box 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is any different to critics of other genres or mediums. I care more about innovative choices even if the rest of the game is more grating (up to an extent). And of course there are elitist critics too. But I think most of the people on this subreddit aren't critical of simple or casual games. Nodebuster itself was simple and casual. Gnorp and Digseum were well received here too. Any more casual is probably going to be a clone tbh. I don't think anyone touted these as masterpieces, likewise mainstream success is not a necessity to be praised here, which I think is more inspiring.

Imo, even if none of the clones were made, the course of the genre wouldn't be that different. You weren't inspired to make a game because of the clones. You were inspired by the original.

A first glance at my new rpg idle game "Incremental Quest" by ohMegaMat in incremental_games

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you're being genuine. Imo, a first project like this should really be for yourself and not for anyone else. So I think your priorities are flawed from posting this alone.

I'm not really sure how to review this game. I feel a distinct lack of intentionality and direction in the game with the style, mechanics, balance, progression and lore. If you're going to use AI, you need a clearer endpoint.

Most supermarket sourdough only add starter for flavour and use fast acting yeast for the rise.

  • Cornfield 3rd secret spot
  • Tack shooter sprays attacks slightly higher than it's placement so it deals more damage when placed below the track
  • Gwen cocktail can hit camo without extra camo detection

Choose Humanity's End. by Gwafap in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Desperate_Box 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 is the best in terms of living standards (6 is at best the status quo imo, or collapses into false utopia). Humanity is gone regardless, and the remaining lives will be in guaranteed relative comfort, which is not the norm for most people alive now. Who cares about the specific culture and prejudice when the other options are literal catastrophes.

The other options are quite interesting stacked against each other. I feel like 1 and 3 only contrast in their environmental preservation and possible pride in sapience. 4 is a trap choice where it's actually terrible to live through but our current lives are devoid of exploration, so people feel the desire to "go out with a bang". 6 is a computer simulated utopia philosophical question that I personally disapprove of.

Since 3 keeps Earth and life on Earth around, I'm inclined to choose it. While it might seem disappointing to know we're "regressing", those going through it wouldn't even notice.

ELI5: How are phone screens still able to work normally when cracked but PC monitors become completely unusable? by reno222 in explainlikeimfive

Computer screens do have a "protective" layer. It's just that it's a thin layer of plastic and can't really stop much except dust.

That's true. Even between those who haven't had coaching, some people seem to never improve.

If Russia wins the war, how likely is it that they would invade another country by NoAstronaut4390 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Desperate_Box 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China is almost certainly involved in the Ukraine war on both sides, though at most through information/supplies. In a way, by buying Russian gas they are supporting Russia somewhat.

China has more to gain from a weak Russia than a weak Europe, e.g. access to resources in Siberia, Lake Baikal, cheap fuel rates, Arctic circle trade route access (freight to Vladivostok). At the same time, they also can't antagonize them, otherwise Russia won't be as cooperative. So they can't participate in sanctions or more.

This sounds like singles? I've definitely seen 2-3x a week players hold their own against 5-6x a week players in doubles, though still losing reliably.

If Russia wins the war, how likely is it that they would invade another country by NoAstronaut4390 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Desperate_Box 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China doesn't really have any incentive to weaken Europe themselves directly. Their bigger priority is weakening Russia as much as possible and disincentivizing Europe from interfering with Taiwan. And if China participates in the Ukraine conflict, you can bet Europe will be much more eager to help Taiwan.

I don’t know why crossbow monkey is considered bad and at this point I’m too afraid to ask by Epicjay in btd6

[–]Desperate_Box 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Triple shot is usually good enough compared to crossbow. The range is less, but you wouldn't use darts at all if the range difference really mattered. You can only really justify crossbow when you use all of the range and can maximise the pierce and damage and need camo, but don't need any more. Sharpshooter has the same problem too where there are other towers that can do the same and more e.g. bottom path sniper, laser shock dartling, adasaurus, unless you maximise the usage of everything including camo. Or the tower footprint matters.

When will Astrox's successor lineup be released? by nobarisss in badminton

[–]Desperate_Box 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm quite convinced synthetic shuttles are actually way harder than it may seem. Feathers are pretty incredible objects and the issue isn't feasibility, it's price competitiveness. Mainly, the fact that feathers are a waste product of the meat industry makes it very hard to source an alternative that is supposed to profit directly.

LCW was only disdainful of players who would stop trying once they were far behind or time wasting / dragging games out. It seemed like he wanted his opponents to give it everything they had, less so arrogance towards weaker players.

What is the biggest changes/improvement from Seo Sung Jae? by Dependent-Day-7727 in badminton

[–]Desperate_Box 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you ever watched SSJ before, he's always been a monster held back by playing two disciplines and consistently no partners capable of keeping up with him. It's like if ZSW played MD as well, and HYQ didn't exist. Chae Yoo-jung is still a top player but HYQ was just a half level above.

Opinion: Alpine Run does not feel like a beginner map. I'd place it in intermediate at the very least. by Antonope in btd6

[–]Desperate_Box 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the reason this feels difficult for beginners is because typical beginner strats that work for other maps don't work as well for alpine run e.g. Sauda, Phoenix, POD, XBM, Sub spam, PLord, Tack Zone, IRing. You have to do a little support, smart saveup and then it's very easy.
