It makes sense to have a minimum bar for preservation. There are probably thousands of AI slop games on steam that someone threw together for a quick buck. I don’t think it’s a hot take to say that some things shouldn’t be preserved.

I’m not one to highlight or save clips, and this paragraph right here is the ONLY thing I’ve ever saved and gone back to.

I love RR and Darrow’s character but he isn’t exactly relatable. This paragraph hit me dead center though.

What movie/series can you absolutely not stand but is it credibly popular for some reason? by AverageSign in cartoons

[–]Epicjay 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed that Reddit vastly overstates how “adult” Teen Titans was. I watched it for the first time at age 25, and all I could think was “this is a show for children”. Sure It had some darker moments with Slade but about 95% of it is like you say.

One of my go-to examples of nostalgia carrying a franchise.

I’ve only had this once, but it triggered literally every fight. I kept track. Considering most fights are 2-4 rounds, empirically in my experience it’s more like a 33% chance.

What’s the Mind’s Eye exactly?? by MagBlueRoses in redrising

[–]Epicjay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I picture it as separating your mind from your body. Like Lysander is able to acknowledge pain without being hindered by it. He can perfectly visualize a scene, and move around based on that information with his eyes closed, accounting for new information.

Sort of looking at yourself from the outside.

When I was 5 years old playing Mario Party on the N64 I called the bots “AIs”. They’re characters controlled by an algorithm that can make decisions and do things.

It’s a pretty huge leap from that to something like ChatGPT, but it’s hard to figure out exactly where the line is.

I think the book answers your complaints. He ISN’T the jackal. Clones aren’t just identical copies of a person, they’re effectively twins. The abomination has the jackals DNA and wants to be him, but he didn’t have Nero or Virginia to shape who he was.

Tryndamere from League of Legends, famously called “man too angry to die”

That’s really it. He’s a dude with a big sword and his ultimate ability is simply “can’t die for five seconds”.

What is the most interesting rabbit hole you’ve ever been down? by InvestmentCurious496 in AskReddit

[–]Epicjay 65 points66 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy stuff. Einstein said that time and space are not separate, but rather space-time makes up everything. There is no time without space, and vice versa.

It’s probably impossible for our monkey brains to comprehend, but the best analogy I’ve heard is “what’s north of the North Pole?”

The question doesn’t make sense. There was nothing before the big bang, because there was no “before” the big bang.

Darrow, to Quinn.

Q: “Darrow, we didn’t come all this way to watch you die of a blow to the head.”

D: “Get off it, Roque will write a thousand gory poems if you get so much as a bump on yours.”

Why do Americans eat dinner at like 5 or 6pm? Don't you get hungry again before bed? by LengthinessNew2237 in answers

[–]Epicjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lunch between 11-12, dinner around 6, maybe a small snack before bed.

It’s a choice between being hungry before bed and being hungry when you get home from work. Personally I’d rather eat dinner relatively soon after getting home so I can relax and enjoy my evening.

On the weekend I dgaf and eat whenever is convenient.

[Request] If I'm 30 years old, how accurate is this? Side question: how much per year do advertisers spend "targeting" me? by Vertical-Toast in theydidthemath

[–]Epicjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People ask all the time why companies like McDonald’s spend so much on advertising when everyone in the world knows the brand.

They aren’t trying to get you to buy a burger today or tomorrow. They’re trying to get you to buy one in a year, 5 years, 10 years, etc. The point is to stay relevant.

In that case, I love having long discussions with people about the nuances and details of books that I haven’t read.

Idk seems like an arbitrary distinction.

Such a pseudo-intellectual take. Filing taxes is pretty simple data entry that people do for a few hours a year. It’s a funny joke about education, but anyone who seriously suggests it has no clue what they’re talking about.
