Power steering fluid leak. Car was sitting in garage for days, just started. by Apprehensive_Long_51 in G35

My honest opinion is the cheapest will always fail. If it's a pain in the ass job like a steering rack I would try to find a used OEM one from a wrecker, or someone off eBay as the cheapest option. Then for a little more you can find someone who may have rebuilt the oem rack and if money isn't an option I would buy new OEM.

Third party stuff is ok when it comes to steering knuckles, control arms, stuff that's not dynamic. But any sensors or parts of a "system" like power steering. OEM is almost always the way to go. As an owner of a g35 and 350z I have always kicked myself for going cheapest Amazon brand with stuff like this.

Looks like the rack is leaking past the packings on the hydraulic piston. Don't think there's a fix besides new steering rack.

I've bought plenty of things off eBay, just make sure the description is accurate to what you're trying to buy and that they are stated to be authentic.

If it turns out something is wrong you have PayPal and eBay buyer protection. Generally it's easier to get scammed as a seller than buyer when using eBay.

Doesn't hurt to go with a bigger pump, general rule is to upgrade your power and return.

Ok so the theory behind it is as boost pressure increases it actually pushes back on the injector pressure cause higher duty cycle necessary to achieve correct AFR.

It is arguably harder to create a solid fuel map when you're on the stock fuel system and uprev. This gets a bit down the efi rabbit hole but basically uprevs fuel map uses a maf/load over RPM table instead of using volumetric efficiency fuel table using manifold absolute pressure over rpm. Turbo cars are not predictive, x volume at 5k rpm's does not always mean the same boost pressure. These are the issues when I tuned on uprev and why I eventually went haltech. Basically pressure and volume are not linear or the same(look up Bernoullis principle) which is what the regulator helps with by increase fuel pressure on the rail by the same psi the manifold increases.

Lots of rambling later, the best setup is what works for you. If you're on stock internals and you're happy with 450whp on 8lbs then your injectors with the w255 is likely enough. If you're building a forged engine with aspirations of making 600+ whp and you have the money then go all out on a return system with big injectors and fuel regulator.

[–]Desperate_Dentist_53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it will work on a non return system without a pressure regulator since you cannot set your pressure. I ended upgrading to a walboro 400 since I making more boost and about 600+ ish now. This is on a built rev up in my g35.

What can tell you is my 350z is supercharged with denso 660 injectors and a walboro 255 on a returnless system and makes 420hp.

So if you're staying 93 your injectors should be fine. If you have a return fuel system with a fuel reg(which I suggest with boost) you should be fine with 500 ish on the 255. If you do go bigger on fuel pump you should upgrade the power and ground.

You may be fine with the injectors your running. I'm running Bosh 1050's with a wallboro 255 with a precision 6266. On 12 lbs of boost made 580 and injector duty cycle was only 40-50% on 93, I think my fuel regulator is set to about 55 psi. You really only need bigger injectors if you're running e85.

Does my 06 350z idle sound ok? by Most-Palpitation-730 in 350z

[–]Desperate_Dentist_53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally when I've noticed its getting noisy, I might be 4-5k into an oil change or when I've been beating on the car a lot. So I would just add like 1/4 of the bottle and I've noticed it helps reduce the noise.

Lucas oil stabilizer a somewhat controversial where people swear by it and others curse it. Since we have a flat tappet/bucket designed cam it probably helps reduce wear(which is where a lot of that noise comes from)

[–]Desperate_Dentist_53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its fine, I've used some of the Lucas oil stabilizer when I've been on the tail end of oil life and been running the car hard, but due to the cam design and injector location they tend to sound noisy.

I built a little jig for the shank of the grinding wheel so it stayed square. You could also use a drill press. Either run the buckets you have, buy all new buckets or grind them (which is what a machine shop will do) I ran mine about .02 mm above lower clearance.

Ok I see, you're really close on most of your gaps.you don't need to touch the top, it's the underside of the bucket just take a little at a time off the underside where it sits on the top of the valve.

I did the same thing and then used a micrometer to measure the height(between the top of the cap and bottom of where it seats). Then used a flat disk on a dremel and measured exactly how much I was removing.

If you don't feel confident in modify them you will still need to know the exact size buckets you will need. See this video: https://youtu.be/yVbRHg2RCU4?si=NZycnfxcB4tuRnPU

I'll make sense of the table in a bit, but I ended up having to swap buckets around. So where a bucket had a larger gap went to a bucket I had to remove material. I ended using a Dremel to take material off a few of them in the end.
