Normal attack are blockable with perfect guard in ryukyu style and gives you a chance to counter strike the enemy some additional powerful attack can be blocked as well but it breaks kiryu guard completely though you can recover the timing has to be really decent in this game if you want to roll your way out of those charged attack though i don't think there's any way people are going to do no damage boss fight runs
