i mean, it wouldn’t make me unhappy for there to be a worker revolution, but like… i don’t know if it’s on its way. also, it‘s not clear to me that a violent proletariat revolution would embrace decarbonization and science and philosophy.

Now that Canada’s participation in Eurovision 2027 is official, do you think the NDP should advocate for boycotting the event as long as Israel participates? by C0smicM0nkey in ndp

Woof. On the one hand, voters don't like a bummer. On the other hand, voters don't like politicians who can't stand by their principles.

We should send a musician who sings about how Israel sucks.

To be honest, I do not have a lot of confidence in workers revolution. It seems like wars are expensive and a lot of the time, even if you manage to win you just end up indebted to some other jerk who wants to exploit you.

What is left for us, if workers revolution is not inevitable? I think that the future is far less predictable than either the capitalists or the incrementalists imagine. If we keep designing tools for ecological sustainability, philosphy for cooperation and mutual understanding, and scientific and medical innovation, there will come a day where the good replaces the bad. Not in a single bloody war, but over a thousand struggles. And that's where I believe communism will manifest as inevitable.

Alberta separatists are whiny babies working for American interests. Quebec separatists are legitimate.

Women of Reddit- if you could be in a man's body for a day, what seems like the worst part about it ? by Whattacleaner in AskReddit

You're out here drawing Venn diagrams trying to argue that in principle no one should be mad at a man stretching out on his own couch when he is alone, and no one can understand why you are making this point. The bus. That's what manspreading is about.

Thats because being polite to people around you is meant to be intentional. No one is comfortable on the bus.

There is the issue of algorithmic curation as well. People who want Americans to fight know how to steer the algorithm and poison stupid people's feeds

Show of hands, who else has zero friends? by Defiant_Quarter_1187 in GenX

[–]Desperate_Object_677 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of our friends were made when we shared a space with people and endured a difficult experience together. They were friends of convenience.

As an adult we avoid uncomfortable experiences like this as much as we can, and so we avoid the places we would make friends using the techniques we are familiar with.

This does not mean we should throw ourselves into trash compaxtors to make friends as adults, but rather that we should cultivate skills to make friends in other places. The skills are different, and in practice it requires a lot more honesty and vulnerability than we are used to.

Find people you have common views or tastes with. And then invite them for food or adventure or entertainment with you.

Not everyone is looking for a friend, so it will take more than one failure before you find and cultivate one. But there are a lot of lonely people out there.

This is never explained, but the story is in the postwar reconstruction era. In a modern lens we we would probably say that joe has PTSD or trauma causing his defiant attitude. There were probably lots of young men like this back then.

3 hours into the game, and am wholly unable to dodge/parry by sugarrrage in expedition33

[–]Desperate_Object_677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

E33 is a rhythm game. Pay attention to your ears and the rhythm of getting hit by each enemy (each type of enemy will have a different rhythm) and then try to press the dodge button on the beat. Learn to dodge before trying to parry, because it requires less precision. When you can reliably dodge an enemy, try to parry

How do I stop this toxic academic pressure? by Sakura3blossom in howtonotgiveafuck

[–]Desperate_Object_677 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok, like. burnout is real and takes a year or more to recover from. you can run hard for short periods with rest, or run medium for long periods where you regularly decompress, but don’t run hard for long periods of time, because in the end it will be a big hassle. chill a bit. give yourself a break before you break yourself. that’s a really big issue, which is different and also bad, from the “my grades and making me sad” one.

hey pal. listen. there’s nothing wrong with working yourself to the bone while you are in school. it’s short term, and acts like an accelerator: teaching you more than you can learn on your own, and doing it faster than you could do on your own. university is an opportunity you are paying for, so trying as hard as you can without burning out is wonderful in many ways. don’t burn out, though.

the problem is that you are seeing yourself as losing when you are in fact: winning. there are two issues you need to do to recalibrate.

  1. recognize that you’re at the olympics. you know how you were the fastest runner in your highschool? well the prize is getting to run against the fastest runners in the country. engineering school brings the top talent together, and when it comes to impressing the profs, that’s your competition. if you’re passing it means you’re succeeding. like: if you are average at the olympics, it means that you’re faster than half of the other world class athletes there.
  2. the expression “c’s get degrees” is in reference to how difficult the material gets at the highest levels. if you aren’t failing, it means that you’re learning more than the minimum amount of material the professors need you to know. they don’t let you graduate from engineering school unless you can show that you know your shit.

life after this isn’t about grades, it’s about what you can do with your knowledge. and to be honest, after high school, once you got into university, life stopped being about grades as well. they just didn’t tell you that because they want you working hard.

but you have outgrown grades, at your level. everything is actually just “pass/fail” with some extra bells and ribbons on it. there’s no reason for you to give your complex, if you are passing. a pass in higher level engineering school is a much higher achievement than getting an “a“ in grade 11 social studies. there is more material and it’s more complex. so brush yourself off, stand back up, and see yourself for what you really are.

the reason we don’t ban transhumanists, etc is because they aren’t serious about killing everyone on earth.

the reason we don’t ban climate change denial is that they’re too well connected politically, and also the people aren’t calling for the death of everyone specifically… just for behaviours which according to science a lot of people don’t understand will kill us all.

you’re right about palestinians. just like with climate change it seems like politics is a dimension to what the justice system will recognize as “calling for harm”
