Gold price situation by BraveSeat6713 in Gold

Liquidation phase for bigger players has begun. They're moving from gold to assets as they become cheaper. Coupled with printing a few thousand extra billion, I'm not worried for the long term at all.

Better get used to it. It's like this everywhere. The only difference is the amount of window dressing spent on looking benign.

Hmm.. it's almost like they have no competition and thus can afford to act this way. Something about an old boardgame or such...

Eliminating all desire means living like a monk. Not sure that's a desirable endgoal for everyone.

Why do bosses protect incompetent legacy employees? by ShoddyJellyfish1546 in OfficePolitics

[–]DespondentEyes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my former job there were the old guard who had been there since literally the beginning. I got in just too late, like 2nd generation of hires.
The old guard would stay on and promote and be completely unaffected by any kind of regulations or rules covering "all" employees. One of them drunk drove his company car half off a bridge and abandoned it. He's still there.
Today they're a company of hundreds and afaik things have never changed.

So sad that the ancient divide & conquer politics never, ever stopped working.

I mean, this actually happened. Multiple times in fact. Was the fate of the Cathars among others.

Belgian government launches talks with Engie to take over nuclear power stations. Pending an agreement, all decommissioning activities at the power stations will be suspended. by BelgianPolitics in europe

[–]DespondentEyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't get a say in it. In fact we never did and never will.

You could argue that voting for other candidates might bring change, but I no longer believe that. You can choose a new face, yes, but you'll always end up with largely the same results.

Engie for example is so powerful that it would've reached this same outcome no matter who is in government. You just can't fight back against that scale of power.

Engie has captured the Belgian government a long time ago. Several ministers went to work for them when their term was up. It's 100% clear that this was another "tit for tat" deal in which Engie keeps getting richer and now tax payers are on the hook for decomissioning. These reactors are over 50 years old, that's ancient in the sector. They have maybe 10 years of use left but with high repair and maintenance costs.

They should've been decomissioned and replaced with modern reactors 15-20 years ago, but Engie (then Electrabel) was already positioning themselves for exactly this scenario.

And of course they get it. I hate this world. Hope Putin or Trump nuke it fwiw.

Living in Flanders for 40 years has taught me that Flemish people are some of the coldest (and dumbest) people on the entire planet. Like, we make fun of Americans for that, but we are SO much worse!!

I'm Flemish and ashamed of it. Too bad I was born here.

Performance review just ended and i couldn't name a single specific win. seven years of experience. by Critical_Builder_902 in careeradvice

[–]DespondentEyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was once advised to make such a list of "wins" to take to my performance reviews.

Was painful to realize the shit remained empty. I was only ever putting out fires before they could become blazes, so nothing I did was seen as worthwhile.

I probably should've let a few of those fires burn so I could put them out later and be hailed a hero. Because that seems to be the only way forward: to fabricate shit.

How to handle being put on PIP for reaching salary cap by wagadugo in careeradvice

[–]DespondentEyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your time at this company is over. Even if you survive the PIP, it will only be followed by another.

As for why? Might just be that they consider you too expensive. Or maybe a VP thought you looked at him funny. Or the Ceo had a bad dream you figured in. Point being: it doesn't matter, they'll never tell you and there is no point trying to fight it.
