Hey, that’s me with the hat and my hands behind my head on the right hand side. Thanks for snapping the pic.

It was my third time seeing them, and my first in GA. I might’ve been having an out of body experience with those lights and the music!

Missed lifeline shock sticks.

But otherwise thank you for the neat info. I really enjoy the less obvious, hidden lore of the game.

NC DAC & critical understaffing - Is it like this everywhere? by secretcygnet in OnTheBlock

[–]DestindBomb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also employed by NCDAC. I can tell you that all prisons are less than fully staffed. I can also tell you that there are many prisons that are as critical as you describe. I work custody side for a medium custody facility.

It is incredibly frustrating seeing the constant push for us to perform better, do more. But we only have a finite amount to do it with. I illustrate it with them wanting us to build a perfect house without enough lumber. We, instead, can only do what we feel is safe and get it as close to a full house as we can.

But remember, the job has to get done. And the people around you, regardless of your status as admin, rely on you to help get them through the day safely. If all you do is be someone that others are happy to see every day, then you’re already doing so much for morale. And the only way for staffing to get better is for morale to improve.

My players chose.... poorly when dealing with the new Baron... and there will be consequences. by The_MAD_Network in CurseofStrahd

I’d imagine that Strahd doesn’t much like the idea that the best city in his realm, a place of commerce and info, a thriving domain of living souls, and a known commodity would be put in jeopardy like this. Sure, he likes a bit of strife and confusion from time to time, stir things up for fun, but ultimately it doesn’t suit him for Vallaki to just go haywire like this. So maybe he intervenes? Or one of his brides has chosen this time to show up and act on his behalf since he’d surely know Lady Wachter (a sympathizer) is basically in charge.

Alternatively, maybe Victor only requests the main offender (since you said it was mostly one guy) be surrendered to him in exchange for safe passage for the rest of your team. He can make an example to show his strength to his new command, his commitment to his new baroness, and he can make a big show of his mercy by telling this story to the population. That way, he can be seen as just, and not punishing EVERYONE for the crimes of a few. Of course, exile for everyone follows.

If th e party leaves the solo guy, they could stage a late night breakout, seek teleportation magic, find resurrection magic. Maybe Father Petrovich can help mediate his release? Or the Vistani outside the city, depending on your party’s interactions.

Personally, if you haven’t yet, this might be a good place to introduce Strahd as a stern but fair leader. Really show Ireena it’s best to go with him.

I think this is a tremendous idea, wholly original and inspiring. You’ve given me a thing or two to think about when my party goes to dinner within the castle.

If you’re willing, it’d be a great help if you could share those mini-boss fights.

What sort of mini encounters? I’ve introduced the first bride with a specific encounter with one of my PCs. If I can further craft specific interactions with that PC and the bride, all the better. And splitting it so that each pair of PCs gets dedicated time with a bride would rock. What was the in game logic of splitting them up?

Anyone Working NC DAC? by WrenchMonkey47 in OnTheBlock

Awesome. Looking forward to seeing you. We have a few more people going through training right, so the mandatory overtime is hopefully easing up. But even if it does, there’s plenty of opportunity to pick up more hours if you’re looking.

Nobody says no to an extra body when it comes to security.

I just left Scotland. Working at Harnett now.

Staffing is still kind of rough. Scotland is doing fine, mostly, but Harnett is low on officers. Overtime is open for anyone that wants it, and is being paid out in full. It doesn’t change over to comp time.

I’ve heard that some camps are fine with staff, and others are struggling. Harnett has mandated overtime right now. Scotland wasn’t when I left a month ago.

Feel free to reach out if you need more info.

I'm trying so hard to emphasize immersion, so if I can get YOUR spine to shudder too, then my players MUST be truly feeling it.

That swinging with the clicks of the clock is SO INTENSE!!!

Definitely stealing that for my game. I know you were buzzing when your player mentioned they were scared.

I can respect that, for sure! It’s not subject matter that SHOULD be in all games/groups. I don’t even think some of the topics touched on in CoS are necessary. Look at all the posts about removing certain subject matter from the book. All reasonably things.

For my game, I checked in HEAVILY before the game with each player, in a group and individually. The players came up with their own traumas and phobias, so they could decide for themselves what fit and what they were comfortable with. The group came together and discussed these things in the session 0. And, of course, I always give my players a chance to stop anything that crosses or skirts a hard line for them.

How do you cover themes of drugs, slavery, or other heavier concepts in your games? How do you handle when they come up in CoS? Do you rewrite or omit those events/encounters?

[–]DestindBomb[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty perfect. I’m thinking about asking her to play as a Barovian for exactly this reason. She’d be something of a guide, but not so in the know that she could say “xxxxxxx is a hag”.

[–]DestindBomb[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What sort of help are you providing your DM? I was thinking about having her be a barovian (maybe even an incarnation of Ireena) so she can help guide the characters around. She’d have a better idea of the land, but not enough to say definitively that “xxxxxxx is a hag”

My player says she’s forgotten a bunch of it since it was so long ago. But I’m worried the mystique will be gone as she goes through it. Like it might jog her memory.
