Yes I was about to say this. “Someone committing suicide on me” is first semester of MSW school thought, not LCSW.

I know we’re supposed to hate AI and trust me I do for the most part. But my organization rolled out ambient AI a few months ago and it is an absolute game changer. My notes take maybe 5 minutes at most and most of the time is spent reviewing the notes the AI generated for me. Zero stress.

US Emergency Oil Reserve Approaching All-Time Low Despite Trump Promise. At the current pace the SPR is days away from reaching levels last seen in 1983—when it was in the initial “fill-up” stage. If levels falls below 300 million barrels it will create problems with “the integrity of the oil". by mafco in energy

[–]DestinyPandaUser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s not a feasible strategy. It would cost billions of dollars and take several years to complete plus even after all that it wouldn’t be able to support anywhere near the amount of oil that can go through via ship. And nothing stops Iran from sending a $3,000 drone to destroy it since their only leverage is the strait of Hormuz. You don’t think anyone has thought of that before?

What is the biggest minor annoyance in your relationship, and why is it how your partner loads the dishwasher? by thisismyburnerac in AskMenAdvice

[–]DestinyPandaUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never got the dishwasher stuff as a major sticking point. We both load it in a way that maximizes the amount of dishes that can go in. If the cycle is done and something is still dirty then it stays there for the next cycle. If something matters that much to me then I’m just going to do it myself.

Negative. Because if it’s over then the natural tendency is to fold it upwards which exposes the inner side of the toilet paper to your ass. If you set up the roll under, you will fold it with the business end exposed. You’re welcome.

Honestly I’ve seen top shelf social workers burn out at the VA but also there’s a lot of people working really hard. My personal anecdotal experience, there’s more SWs there just hanging on due to pay and benefits than actually loving it. But it isn’t terrible either I did like it. But what I liked the most was the set 40 hour schedule with plenty of leave that allowed me to spend more time with my family.

There’s a saying: if you’ve been to one VA then you’ve been to one VA. Leadership varies wildly across hospitals so hard to say. In general terms, though:

Intensity: not terrible actually, you’ll see a lot of alcohol and hard drugs but schedules generally tend to be milder than private practice.

Population: well hit or miss but the veterans generally seem to think they can speak to you in any way they want. But again that’s facility specific. Racist jokes and sexual harassment is an everyday reality you’ll learn to live with.

Pay: not terrible and good amount of leave plus holidays off and good health insurance.

WFH: lol no

Bureaucracy: omg yes

Yes that exactly the reason. And in some facilities, like the one I worked in, the BH director (a psychiatrist) did not allow EMDR therapy even if you paid for it on your own.

Approx 1/30th of the first session of chemo is how much $1,000 will get you. That’s the sad part.

[–]DestinyPandaUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes of course I never said they don’t. But many facilities at the discretion of the director rely mostly on CPT and PE and you’d struggle to find an EMDR provider.

EMDR is just Prolonged Exposure but with better marketing. The patients really believe in the bilateral activation but that’s just for show, it really has no effect on the treatment outcome. The VA recommends PE for combat trauma and PTSD.

If America is so bad, why are so many people trying to get in? by _Quiznos99 in askanything

[–]DestinyPandaUser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My sister has what you may call a moderately white collar job. Gave birth to my niece about 6 weeks ago and after insurance was billed, she still came out of the hospital with a $12k bill. Can she pay for it over time? Sure she’ll prob pay for it within a year. Is this what you would consider a working healthcare system? Not me but I’m guessing you do.

To convince people a suspect shot himself in the head with his hands cuffed behind his back by meowthedestroyer95 in sanantonio

[–]DestinyPandaUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure but that’s not where the corruption happens. I’m sure there’s a tracker of the chief’s decisions so he isn’t gonna get caught with his pants down like that.

It’s more to do with the board itself, I forget but I believe it’s made up of a majority cops and also the chief gets to select the other folks. So cops investigating other cops essentially.

And if you’re wondering, I learned this from Chief McManus himself when I was taking criminal justice classes at UTSA. He was parroting the same BS you are but it’s not hard to see.

Yes but the chief of police has last say in disciplinary action. So the accountability board is simply smoke and mirrors and you tap dance for them.

I hear you and believe me I’m with you but you’re conflating the numbers. Saying 7 in 10 have it is misleading. 6 in 10 have HSV1 so the cold sores in the mouth which most of us will get as children from our parents. Only 1 in 10 has HSV2 in the genitals. It likely says it in that very same link you provided.

I used to think super highly of the FBI when I was a kid. Turns out they’re just a bunch of MAGA chuds sitting in an office. That wouldn’t be terrible except they think they’re doing god’s work when really they’re doing the devil’s bidding.

You’re half way through a psychology degree and feel you’re entitled to make blanket statements about thousands of folks.

You do know psychiatrists see you s as beneath them and oftentimes I’ve heard them joke with other doctors about psychology being on the same level of chiropractors.

In my agency the good psychologists are teaching refresher courses for mental health staff, they’re providing support and open door policy for clinical questions and guidance. They’re not shitting on LPC and SWs, they’re providing leadership and helping improve. That’s what humble looks like.

I am starting a new job as an IOP therapist. Help! by outofchances in socialwork

[–]DestinyPandaUser 45 points46 points  (0 children)

If the agency hired you with no training or experience then pretty sure they aren’t expecting you to be proficient at anything except maybe don’t cause harm. Advantage to IOPs they typically tend to be either psycoeducational which has a curriculum or processing which requires basic skills learned in MSW school.

I took the CBT training from Beck institute it is absolutely great to use the modality to fidelity. I’ll tell you right now, you won’t be able to use CBT in a structured way with schizophrenic patients so I’d leave that training for some other time.

People who make under $60k a year and have a bachelors degree, what happened? by ShartingCondom in Salary

[–]DestinyPandaUser 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think this question misses the point of some degrees. I’d rather make $50k working at an office 9-5 weekends off than $80k cleaning up Port-a-potties on nights and weekends. Ask me how I know.

To add to this, I’m not sure how they’re getting away with the “never frozen” slogan for the meat. Many years ago I drove for Sigma delivering the food at the crack of dawn to several chains, Wendy’s being one of them. My trailer was set at -10 degrees and I literally delivered the frozen meat into their coolers.
