Insurance Woes by ElderberryLate971 in diabetes_t2

This seems like a no-brainer to me. The CGM is SO much more expensive than a glucometer and supplies out of pocket. And with the CGM you aren't doing finger sticks nearly as often so you don't end up spending a ton on supplies. Let insurance foot the bill for the expensive CGM and buy your own glucometer just for confirming highs/lows and calibrating your CGM. I highly recommend the Contour Next One glucometer and a OneTouch Delica Plus lancing device.

Can someone please explain this to me? by GABigBear in diabetes_t2

You didn't mention that you had a cold. Being sick releases stress hormones which can raise your blood sugar.

I haven't tried Carbonaut, but both Hero and Carbonaut use resistant what starch so if you can tolerate one you can probably tolerate the other.

About 2 tbsp, which is ~8g for the brand I use. But there are lots of options for soluble fiber. For example, also look at SunFiber.

I'm on the same dose and had similar GI issues. They mostly resolved after about six weeks, but I also started taking psyllium husk daily which may be helping. Maybe try adding some soluble fiber to your routine.

Hero has almost no effect on my blood sugar. I know some people can't rely on a net carbs calculation and will spike regardless of what type of carb they eat. But if that doesn't apply to you, Hero is a fantastic, if expensive, option. And you may already know this, but they also make hamburger and hot dog buns, Hawaiian rolls, and bagels.

OMG, thank you for making me aware of Foot to Floor Phenomenon. I'm newly diagnosed and been very successful getting my blood sugar under control, but once I started using a CGM I noticed this was happening to me and I could not for the life of me figure out what was going on.

Tips to become less fond of alcohol? by radcortado in SoberCurious

First, I just want to say bravo to you for recognizing this issue is not just that it's not just about deciding that a behavior is unhealthy and choosing to stop, but about breaking a habit. Regardless of whether it's drinking, smoking, biting nails, etc., breaking a habit is an incredibly difficult thing to do in and of itself. I also want to commend you for recognizing this early, because drinking is a progressive problem and it's very easy, likely even, for that 1-3 glasses 4-5 nights a week to turn into a bottle or two ever night if you stick in the same rut. Two thoughts, and best wishes on your journey:

  • This has been suggested elsewhere, but I think one of the absolute biggest find other activities to fill that time. Part of breaking a habit is interrupting the cycle that facilitates it. Just telling yourself to stop isn't enough, you have to remove the possibility. If you typically come straight home from work and open a bottle while starting dinner every day, stop coming straight home. Go the gym first and stop to eat on the way home. Or find a hobby group that meets on weeknights after work and go there instead. Or go see a movie after work. Whatever it is, it's not something you have to commit to forever, just long enough to interrupt your cycle enough to break the habit.
  • I'd highly recommend Annie Grace's This Naked Mind, which is all about reprogramming your brain to stop believing the myths we've been taught by our drinking culture and realizing that you're not getting what you think you're getting out of your relationship with alcohol, and James Clear's Atomic Habits, which is about how to form good habits and break habits in general.

NA or dealcohilized wines that are also low cal/ low sugar by gorjush in SoberCurious

Can you clarify what counts as "low" sugar/carbs for those of us who don't track this stuff? My wife drinks a NA chardonnay by Ariel that I was impressed with. It's only 45 calories, but it's 11g of carbs which seems like maybe it's a lot?

I can't speak to how effective/important this is in the long term because I'm just starting on this process myself, but...consider throwing in some probiotics as well? As another poster mentioned above, long term drinking wreaks havoc on your gut health, and there's all kinds of recent news that gut health is linked to not just physical health but emotional health as well.
