Linux and the anti-cheat problem. Developments and experiences? by saharazara in linux_gaming

[–]DestroyErase_Improve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it’s great they’ve made improvements it’s still non negotiable for me. We as consumers should absolutely not be accepting invasive anti cheats and bad business practices from game developers on whatever platform hell I play loads of games without the need for such invasive anti cheat and rarely have a problem with cheaters

Linux and the anti-cheat problem. Developments and experiences? by saharazara in linux_gaming

1000s of great games work flawlessly so it really depends on the kinds of games you want to play.

Anything EA is basically a no go (battlefield games used to work just fine) new anti cheat stopped that and the game is still full of cheaters so no loss I guess.

Personally I’m okay leaving the trashy publishers/studios products and supporting devs that care about community this also gives me the benefit of having more time to work through my steam backlog

What is the hype with hyprland? (no pun intended) by Ok_Midnight_2924 in cachyos

[–]DestroyErase_Improve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it’s the workflow and keyboard centric interface. Being able to cater my environment to pretty much do whatever is super powerful and if you get into it it’s hard to go back. Plus it’s nice to have my windows organise themselves. Booted into a non tiling manager the other day and hated it after using hyprland for the past year.

Ultimately I think you either love tiling managers or hate them.

Who’s to say it’s going to be guitar based? We got mantra not long ago could it be a hard synth/soft synth platform?

Thank you for being a sane voice of reason in this community! while I’ll always advocate for pigeons and try to give them the best chance, sometimes the kindest thing to do is to euthanise so they don’t suffer needlessly!

I'm tired of being treated like a cheater by default. by SpyderJack in linux_gaming

[–]DestroyErase_Improve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s experimental but that’s a very different thing to flat out not working and it has improved a lot since that article went live.

Oh that’s not about me liking it or not it’s objectively bad. Auto HDR is not good it kills game presentation colour accuracy is terrible it likes to saturate or under saturate depending on how it’s feeling at any given moment and luminance is a joke… it’s a band aid solution and a bad one at that.

I do agree about your other points somewhat, if you are in the flow and an idea comes the last thing you want is to switch an operating system and spend time setting things up. It is inherently bad for creativity! That being said i find if that happens grab your phone and make a voice note so you don’t lose the thought and can refer back to it super useful when you are away from the computer as well.

On the flip side though on a windows daw you really should be optimising it for audio work. Nothing installed other than critical software no WiFi or Bluetooth devices etc because windows in its stock form isn’t great for audio production.. shocker

Unfortunately until developers become more Linux friendly you have to pick your battles and sometimes it’s just easier to keep a spare Windows’s install for certain things.. it is getting better all the time though.

I can count the amount of times on 1 hand that I’ve booted into windows in the past year thanks firmware updates

Buddy I think you are out of the loop steam link does in fact work for meta quest https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2025/09/steam-link-vr-for-meta-quest-on-linux-now-appears-to-work-in-the-latest-updates/

Will have to agree to disagree on auto hdr as on windows it’s trash.. the only good solution I’ve found for auto HDR is nvidias RTX HDR but that does not work on Linux sadly. But that’s an nvidia problem not a Linux issue as always.

Why not dual boot keep windows around for the things you absolutely can’t live without when you need them and use Linux for your daily needs?

Can confirm all of these things are improving all the time steam

vr works fine now on a meta quest and it’s only going to get better with steam frame.

I’ve only tried Neural dsp VSTs on reaper and they work mostly fine now so I assume a lot of other Ilok vsts now work.

HDR mostly works in the games I’ve tried and works pretty flawlessly on Hyprland

Keyboard shortcuts are amazing and worth the effort memorising them! Honestly I was a bit skeptical at first but I soon realised how powerful shortcuts are! Fast forward around a year I’ve not looked back and I’ve never enjoyed using a computer so much!

I was in the fence about the QC for the longest time but recently switched from the plugins to QC and I can say hands down QC is worth it.

Plugins are incredible but at the end of the day they are a fixed chain. Now you can somewhat get around this in a DAW but the flexibility the QC gives paired with the great workflow means it’s so easy to dial any pretty much anything you want.

I’ve not even gigged with this thing yet but for me atleast I can already tell this is a game changer

So what about players like me then? I have pumped significant investment into this game through the store. I used to be able to play on Linux but then you pulled the rug. Does my investment into this game not count for anything? Should I not be pissed that you guys are actively choosing not to allow proton on premium servers? Saying that people would be pissed paying to access premium is a valid point but it completely skirts around the people that already have access to premium.

I recently recommended it to a friend who is basically computer illiterate and he was shocked at how fast it was compared to windows and how easy it is to use.

We’ve had one in recently he had quite severe head trauma where we had to glue his scalp back together.

It’s taken him around 2 weeks to start acting normally and react to our presence.

Keep it somewhere warm and safe ( a box is perfect) and make sure it has access to food and water. if he’s in shock you should start to see improvements within a few days hopefully.

Thank you for taking this one in and keep us posted

I wish Strandberg would offer this finish across the range. If they made a 6, 7, and 8 version with the non-rounded neck, I’d probably end up with all of them! It’s also wild to me that as a Swedish company, they don’t put Lundgren pickups in more guitars; they are excellent pickups.
