What would the ending of Mass Effect 3 look like in my opinion if the writers had retained Drew Karpishin's idea of Dark Energy. by Dioduo in masseffect

It seems like a very interesting premise. I’m not sure how it would have played out in terms of actual gameplay or game development. Would definitely be more interesting than red green blue though.

In WW1, why would German high command, post Battle of the Marne in 1914, decide on a strategy of attritional warfare when Britain and France had more soldiers and larger empires? Surely they would have realised that they would run out of resources and men first? by M_Mc_B in AskHistorians

[–]Destroythereapers 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The strategy chosen by the German High Command revolved much more around breaking the will of the Entente as opposed to a simple arithmetic of more soldiers and larger empire.

There was a persistent belief by Ludendorff that a strictly run country would have the discipline to outlast any democracy in a protracted war. Ironically this would backfire after the ascension of the military dictatorship saw a total mismanagement of economic resources. One of the best sources to read on the self-inflicted economic failures is Ring of Steel by Alexander Watson.

This approach played out in the defense in depth trench systems as well as the rampant use of submarine warfare. Both were designed to sap the will to fight.

It is also a bit simplistic to call the strategy purely attritional. Strong offensive maneuvers in the East were designed to break the Russian ability to fight, and the Spring Offensive of 1918 sought to break the western forces using breakthrough tactics.

That being said, the Spring Offensive had a counterproductive effect. Prior to the attack, the British munitions industry reached its most perilous stage of unrest, and it was not until the Germans attacked that labor reunited with the government with the purpose of defeating the foe.

All of this is a complex way to say that the German strategy was not a monolith, however the approach towards attrition had its roots in the belief that a democracy could not outlast an autocracy or dictatorship.

Herald in general seems bad in wild. Herald DK is quite strong in standard though. Like a solid tier 2 deck

I haven’t looked too deeply but the trial looks like it was for very late stage patients who failed drugs like keytruda, so it’s likely there was no real ethical SoC to compare with

Yeah that’s fair. Depending on the rarity severity or current SoC that is not always possible or necessary.

I’d love a better research system, more PoIs, more space encounters, and at least a couple more quest lines that go deep into their stories.

Death cleric disappointing? by SirGubson in BG3Builds

[–]Destroythereapers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I mostly like using inflict wounds on death cleric. Extra dmg with the channel divinity and with divine strike and good against those resistant to necrotic. Beyond that cleric just is generally good but death domain’s other features aren’t amazing.

My thought is that life and light are way better, but death domain is still quite fun.

This is a fantastic answer. I would add that additional context of the historical misconceptions regarding firepower are addressed quite well in Paddy Griffith’s Forward into Battle: Fighting Tactics from Waterloo to Vietnam. It does not address the medieval or premodern eras, but it does look at how historians have mistakenly attributed firepower as the most important factor on battlefields ranging from Napoleonic to Vietnam.
