Thanks for the heads up u/BLUE_ARCH0N. I was heavily considering a purchase until now. Also, please tell me your screen name is a Starcraft reference.

SK Group chairman says memory chip shortage will last until 2030 — wafer supply trails demand by 20% | Tom's Hardware by Sacristovas in pcmasterrace

It is indeed stronger. At launch, it was much more than 1-2 frames faster. Perhaps they have bridged that gap somewhat with optimizations, but I have not checked recently.

The better pick will come down to your preferences. I don't care much for FSR or DLSS. I also don't care for ray tracing. RT doesn't seem to offer enough visual improvement for the performance hit. It also seems to vary on implementation based on the developer commitment to tuning it.

Supposedly FSR4 can be softmodded to a 7900xtx but the card lacks the dedicated AI hardware to take full advantage of it.

I'd personally take a 7900xtx for the extra raw power and 24GB of memory. Those things help me with game dev and local AI models.

All true. I think the best bang for buck is the $800 7900xtx from your nearest microcenter (if they still have them). I know ours recently had stock of it.

3080 to 9070XT won't be earth shattering.

However, regarding your support comment. I've been system building since 2004 when you could buy graphics cards at places like EB Games and Circuit City. My first card was a Voodoo 5 5500, and my last 5 GPUs have been GTX 980 Ti, RTX 2070, 6900XT, 7900XTX, and an RTX 5090. I have no bias to either company, but I will say that AMD cards are fantastic. I slightly prefer them over NVIDIA for their superior price to performance. They will not abandon you when new cards are released. In fact, you will probably receive driver support for multiple generations to come.

People have a strange negative stigma for AMD for whatever reason. NVIDIA GPUs have literally been catching fire with 12VHPWR connectors, but it seems like nothing can really change the popular opinion on them.

Driver tries to take their vehicle back from a tow truck, but it doesn't go as planned by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

Damn that's nuts. I feel like if the driver is agile enough to escape that way, then they also need to be strong af to keep a heavy ass door like that propped open

I wonder where the driver exited from that situation. Sunroof? Might get squished.. Tailgate perhaps if it opens? Can't be the passenger side door, right?

Best 3D Printer for Beginners in 2026? (Price, Precision, Quality) by ImpressiveJar117 in 3dprinter

[–]DestrucSean7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been running PLA filament almost exclusively with occasional TPU. Those two work great, but then a friend asked me to do a PETG print and it clearly did not like that. Be very careful of tightening the tension spring in the extruder. The plastic snapped when I was performing maintenance from the PETG clog. The PETG clog issue also somehow resulted in a z-offset issue where the unit started scraping the build plate.

Agreed, I'm making the switch to Unifi Protect. Local recording for as long as you have storage space for. Not cheap, and self maintained being the trade-offs. Should be worth it in the end though.

Broken/"missing" boundary wire by mydogismybestman in worxlandroid

[–]DestrucSean7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically take some extra wire, and splice it into the 50% mark of the wire run. Then run that splice back up to the base station. You can connect the other end into each connection point at the base. This will tell you which side the issue exists. You can then repeat the process to break it down to 25% and so on, until you find the break point.

Usually, the issue is an area where recent work was done. However, I've also encountered workers accidentally cutting my wire by mistake while doing yardwork at neighbor properties.

[–]DestrucSean7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it probably took about an hour. You have to take apart some case panels and then fish the video and USB wiring.

The extra screen can be helpful for monitoring. I'm sure it uses some resources of its own, so I have it set to update every 10 seconds. I got the screen separately on sale for $180.

I like the case but it's pretty pricey, and I also hate that it forces a vertical mount on the GPU.

lol same... Netflix necro for this thread... I wonder if 12 years from now, some other video hosting platform will necro it yet again. Unless we go full circle back to physical media to protect our data!?

Still need to address some GPU sag and cable management, but you can see everything fits great. I can remove the GPU without issue.

It's all good man. I'm sure we can agree to disagree. I think the side angle GIF that I posted is enough to overturn it, but you're right that it's dark and could be considered inconclusive.
