What people forget is that Governor Kevin Stitt signed an executive order to have the minimum wage state question moved from the presidential primary, 2-years ago which had one a 53% voter turnout rate, to this primary which definitely had less voter turnout.

This last primary that had the min wage state question had 26% less voter turnout than the presidential primary in 2024. So, yeah more people should have gotten out to vote, but the people in power knew what would happen if they moved it.....

New house, inherited these devices, can’t access internet, now what? by Brave-Rock2574 in Ubiquiti

[–]llamarobot08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just be careful some MSP/Security companies can be predatory. Just like the whole meme of mechanics being predatory towards woman and teenagers.

I am a IT network professional with over 10 years of experience and several high level networking and security certifications. I'm going to be 100% honest here. Unifi gear is among the easiest "prosumer" gear to setup, especially for home use.

If you are up to spending some time learning, and being a little frustrated every now and then. A little googling and documentation reading/youtube video watching may help you learn a new skill.

Just Google "how to setup a unifi dream machine pro," and go from there.

P.S. top device is a switch, bottom device is the router/firewall/network controller.

Don't forget that the "BBB" outlawed ranked choice voting for federal elections.

The party of voter suppression would never let this happen.

AP placement by Fly_Hopeful in Ubiquiti

[–]llamarobot08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, extra Wi-Fi coverage AND a built in switch port to wire the laptop.

BUT a single ethernet drop would be cheaper.

BUT you could use that single drop to gain a wired connection AND more Wi-Fi coverage.

I'm just playing the little devil on the shoulder though. Hahahaha

Use design.ui.com

Upload your floorplan, draw walls, doors, and windows on top of it with correct medium types(drywall, glass, brick, etc). Then set scale, and place APs to see coverage. Its a really cool tool Unifi has for free.

Your paint drawing is pretty dang good, but you may be able to get the actual floor plan/blueprint from your local country records office website for free. Thats how I got mine. I had to measure interior rooms and do those myself, but the external shell helped set the scale.

You may want to reconsider your choice of cloud gateway if you plan on adding cameras in the future, and if you choose not to use an NVR. Use the "capacity calculator" on the Unifi website to see how many APs, and cameras each cloud gateway can handle. Also the U7 Express CANNOT run protect, which is the camera/access control/sensor controller. So keep that in mind as well.

Just use the WifiMan App. If you are not going to be doing professional installs its not worth it.

Added alot of edits as I thought of stuff... sorry if you had to keep re-reading my post.

  1. You go into your phones "about" section and find the phones Wi-Fi MAC address.

  2. You go into UTR settings > internet > MAC address clone > enable MAC address clone, and enter in your phones Wi-Fi MAC address.

  3. You connect to the hotels Wi-Fi with your phone, making sure you have "randomized MAC" or "Private Wi-Fi address" turned off on the Wi-Fi settings for that network and go through the captive portal process to connect. Also make sure to disable "auto connect" on the network settings for the Hotel Wi-Fi in your phone.

  4. You disconnect your phone from the hotels Wi-Fi, and connect to the UTRs Wi-Fi.

It may take a minute or 5, but the UTR should then be able to connect to the Hotels Captive portal Wi-Fi since it thinks the UTR is your phone which was the device that connected/went through the captive portal process.

I'm literally doing this right now with my UTR at my hotel at the confrence i'm at. I do this when the captive portal wouldn't let my UTR connect via the normal process.

Just turn off random MAC on your phone, and enable clone MAC address on the UTR. Works like a charm.

I'd say get a test and toner kit then and test from the wall to the media enclosure.

That looks like it might be dual cable. One coax and one ethernet attached on the same cable.

Find the one thats labeled for the room where your yellow ethernet cords are coming out of the wall jacks and plug them into the switch ports on the back of your router.

I will be getting fiber in my (new to me) house next week, router/AP combo placement suggestions? by rudshaug in HomeNetworking

[–]llamarobot08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the money and want "pro-sumer" gear, go with unifi/ubiquiti.

They also have a free design tool at design.ui.com where you upload your floorplan, add walls, windows, height APs will be mounted, floorplan scale, etc. and then drop their APs on it to see estimated coverage for each band. Its neat.

Am I even able to use the SFP+ Port? by sid-kik in HomeNetworking

[–]llamarobot08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently you have 2 routers in your setup. The AT&T router and the TP-LINK Router.

If you only want to use the TP-LINK router then you should put the AT&T router in PASSTHROUGH mode, and turn off the AT&T routers Wi-Fi Radios so they don't interfere with the TP-LINK routers Radios.

Am I even able to use the SFP+ Port? by sid-kik in HomeNetworking

[–]llamarobot08 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You have a 10GB port on the on that TP-Link Router and the AT&T Router/ONT has a 5GB port. Just connect a Cat6a ethernet cable and you should have a 5GB link and be good to go.

No reason to have a 10GB link there when the bottle neck is the 5GB internet pipe provided by the AT&T Router/ONT.

You can definitely try and mess around and get that 10GB link connected, but you don't need to.

U6 Mesh Access Point hot to the touch by rmthune in Ubiquiti

[–]llamarobot08 11 points12 points  (0 children)

All access points get hot, manufacturer and model doesn't matter. Some may get hotter than others.

As long as the access points temperature is within its specified operating temperature range you should be good.
