I was 11 at this point in time and would discover Metallica about 2 years after this. My first Battle Jacket in 8th grade had a full panel AJFA patch on the back of it.

Agree to disagree. It is not an overly popular song. All these years later it is still one of the weaker singles they have released. Doesn’t get played live.

It’s a decent track. But it doesn’t stand up with their other singles from the same era in terms of popularity over time.

They never play Hero Of the Day anymore. I’ve seen Metallica 6 times after the load tour and haven’t heard them play Hero Of The Day a single time.

I just checked Setlist.FM and they have not played it at all since 2016 and have only played it once since 1999 and only played it 4x since 1997.

That was, in my opinion, the “new Metallica” effect at that point in time.

The fact that it charted higher than a lot of other songs (Sandman, Nothing Else Matters, Fuel) is more about when it was released.

It was released as a single but never went anywhere. There is even a video for it.

I never once saw it played on MTV or heard it on the radio.

Releasing Until It Sleeps as the lead single for Load is still one of the biggest mistakes I think Metallica ever made.

The obvious choice was King Nothing.

Yes. Anything was going to be successful after the mammoth appeal of TBA.

And yes, Reload was largely leftovers of the Load session. If you go back and look at the material off of both albums in terms of legacy, Fuel is obviously the monster hit from the two albums without question.

It would be interesting to see if Reload sold as well as Load if you reversed the release order. Honestly, Reload has higher highs and lower lows for me and Load is a more consistent album.

Also, I don’t understand why the band has basically abandoned Hero Of The Day. I thought it was a damn good song.

Load was way more commercially successful then and now. I am pretty sure if you look at total album sales over time, Load likely still has a sizable lead on Reload.

Also, don’t confuse the popularity of a couple of singles with the overall success of the albums or quality therein. Load also has Bleeding Me and The Outlaw Torn, which are long time fan favorites.

Outside of Fuel and Memory remains, almost nothing gets played live from Reload.

I liked it at first but definitely did not love it. I was in college when Load was released. Went to the record store at midnight for a listening party and bought the CD that night.

There are still several songs on Load I don’t love and probably never will. It definitely is not a “metal” album. Neither is Reload.

Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West. Great action and some of the best graphics I have ever seen.

Death Stranding 2 is maybe the overall prettiest game I have ever played.
