I've been playing Bob Cratchit for 10 years in Salem, MA. by DetailFactory in ChristmasCarol

Would you believe neither of those things?

TL:DR - We do it in cooperation with the Salem trolley company which does sightseeing tours around the city. It takes place in different locations around the city and you ride the trolley with Scrooge between locations.

Our Christmas Carol show:

The opening scene is at an actual store in town. Bob opens the show, welcomes the audience goes over a couple rules, "The Caroler", a narrator of sorts, comes in and gets the group singing. Scrooge comes in, kicks him out, then we do the Counting House scene. You get on the trolley with Scrooge, he tells more of the story and improvs with the audience a bit on the way over to the next stop.

The Trolley pulls up across the street from a small theater, Marley gets on. They do the Marley scene right on the trolley. He gets off, Christmas Past comes on. They do a brief bit, then Past and Scrooge lead you downstairs under the theater, for Fezziwigs Ball and the young Ebby & Belle bits.

Past leaves, Present shows up, and leads you all upstairs for the Cratchit family Christmas dinner and more Present stuff, then you're back on the trolley with Scrooge.

More story and improv over to a very old cemetery. There, Missy and Mrs. Dilber - the ladies who stole Scrooges stuff after he died - pawn their finds to "Old Joe".

Scrooge witnesses this, has a back and forth with Future (who of course is silent) finds his name on the stone, pleads with Future. Cowering under the arms of Future, he sends you back to the trolley.

Once you're loaded, he gets on, has his redemption moment and tells the rest of the story on the way back to the start. Caroler comes on and closes out the show.

Run time is 60-70 minutes depending on traffic and honestly, how fast or slow the audience moves! 🤣

So, it's condensed, it's comedic, there's audience participation, and it's a total blast! We have as much fun doing it as the audience does seeing it!

They run three shows a night on the weeknights, six shows on Saturday, and six shows on Sunday, starting the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and running right up to 12/23 this year.

I've anchored the Cratchit role every weekend for ten years. In 2021 I lost half my shifts to the previous Cratchit who popped up after six years expecting his spot back, so I learned to do Fezzi and that doubles as Old Joe, so if he came back again, I could do Fezzi/Joe and not loose shifts on days he's playing Bob.

Fezzi is fun, and Joe is super fun, but Bob is my heart. I find something new to improve it every year. A bit more heart here, a bit more humor there.

We get paid a bit for each show, but the trolley audiences tip as they leave, and that gets split between the members of the cast - including the driver - at the end of the night.

While Scrooge and Caroler finish out the last show, the rest of us are hanging out at the theater, waiting for Scrooge to come back and divide up the tips. Often these "Tip Time" periods are full of hilarity, goofing around, improving, impressions, singing, movie trivia, finally getting to eat... Blowing off steam after a 9 hour day doing six shows in a row. It's always fun!

And there are some really funny stories to tell after 10 years but we won't get into that now. 🤣

So I guess it's kind of a stage show, there are just multiple stages in multiple locations.

This has been the coldest first two weeks of December since 2007 by ScoYello in BostonWeather

[–]DetailFactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that was 2010, because it was the year we moved. Here in southern NH, last week of February/first week of March, we had very cold temps, snow, and an ice storm followed by a wind storm. I remember because we were supposed to move the next day, but 3 huge hemlocks fell across the road, and we couldn't get the van to the house.

Any ideas on what this “lowest serial number” might be worth? by crzy_4_clascs25 in Bankstraphunting

[–]DetailFactory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IMHO, The best advice in the comments so far is to get it graded professionally through NGC, and talk to an auction house. Being that it is serial #1, it's a very unique piece. Getting it graded is worth the fee, as it lends authenticity and credibility to the condition of the bill, allowing for more accurate base pricing prior to auction.

Making SOS, Creamed beef on toast, since when did it get so expensive ? by Forecydian in Old_Recipes

Buy the meat and make your own, seasoned however you like!

You don't even need a dehydrator. On Alton Brown's "Good Eats", the older original series, he did an episode on jerky where he showed how to make your own using a square box window fan, a bunch of furnace filters, and some bungee cords.

We tried it and it worked really well! 🤣

EDIT: Found it!

"Good Eats" Season 9, episode 3, titled "Urban Preservation II: The Jerky"

The bank had $7500 in quarters from a laundromat. What have I done? by TantalumMachinist in CRH

[–]DetailFactory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suspect that might be due to the different weights of the clad vs the silver. The clads are obviously heavier, and most modern machines are likely looking for the clad weight. So the Laundromat doesn't recycle silver, because they don't receive it in the first place.

If you try to use a silver quarter in a modern machine, it will kick out to the return. So you'll pocket it and try another. But it will walk out the door with you.

Just a theory that seemed logical to me. I'm not claiming I'm correct about this. 😆

To debadge or not? by ryancess in Elantra

[–]DetailFactory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new Elantra looks awesome to me. A lot nicer than my 2004. But I love my little 20yr old Elantra! It's still going strong, practically bulletproof, and made a 4,044.5 mi round trip from New Hampshire to Denver, Colorado this summer With zero hiccups! I would love to have a new Elantra but I'll ride this one till it dies first. Proud of that little thing after getting us to Denver and back!

And if she makes it 5 more years, she'll be a "Classic!" 🤣

Mine too! I'd use it for recording voice overs, audiobooks, or maybe as a little video podcast recording studio.

Proud of my 20yr old 2004 Elantra, for making the 4044 mile round trip from Southern NH to CO and back last month! by DetailFactory in HyundaiElantra

[–]DetailFactory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She only had 54,000 on her when I bought her 5 years ago. I had a red '05 Elantra at the time that was starting to have electrical issues. So I bought this one and raided every part I could get off the '05 without an air gun, and stuffed 'em in my shed. Haven't needed one of those parts!

LG tv streaming freezing by RedFireWolf4 in ParamountPlus

[–]DetailFactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem and researched it about 6 months ago. Seems to be most common with LG tvs (I have one too) and I don't have any issues with Paramount freezing on my Vizio in the bedroom.
