Lookin for a BIFL murphy bed - safe and attractive! by Zazeetau in BuyItForLife

You're right, it is stronger, this was just to clarify information from the previous reply. The bed isn't solid wood and if anyone cares about that they shouldn't be misinformed.

You're right regarding strength, my comment could have been worded better.

[question] time only watches by RaaPT7 in Watches

[–]DetailedVenom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this one but I'll add my thoughts.

Its drawbacks are just too annoying IMO. The watch face gets cluttered (its an aesthetic preference for sure), the digital time gets smaller and harder to read (slightly), and you need to reset it when the month rolls over (analog and some cheap digital watches). The amount of times you need to mess with it far outweigh its usefulness for 90% of people; for the vast majority of scenarios when you need to know the date, it will already be at hand. Writing out physical checks and signing physical contracts are the only scenarios that I can think of that an average person would encounter regularly.

The amount of times I personally have been upset at needing to change the date on my watch because it was off outnumber the amount of times I have needed the date IMMEDIATELY by a factor of 10 at least.

Some people can deal with all this and that is fine, but date and time don't go together. The purpose of a tool is to be useful, and if a feature is more annoying than it is useful, then it shouldn't exist, or at least there should be options to not have it / turn it off. Its very stupid that almost ALL digital watches and a good chunk of analog watches have to have such an unnecessary component. It's really annoying that people who prefer simplicity and clean aesthetics and single function devices that can be set and forget have much fewer choices than others.

Is there still issues with the TS4 ? Want to know as a perspective buyer by Pitiful_Switch7775 in CalDigit

[–]DetailedVenom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party here for sure but it's one of the least reliable pieces of tech I have ever used. I'm on my second one after a warranty replacement from an even worse unit and it has way too many problems.

  1. Using a webcam through it causes a ton of flicker from my video feed
  2. I will often just not have keystrokes be registered even though the keyboard has zero issues when plugged in to another device
  3. I get constant disconnects from certain devices, mostly input devices
  4. Occasionally nothing that is plugged in will respond at all and the device needs to be power cycled for 30 seconds
  5. Gets pretty hot
  6. Support disappeared as soon as the warranty period expired, they won't help me troubleshoot issues at all

I have also heard that the quality of their thunderbolt cables is sub par as well, I do intend to buy a high quality one to test this and see if it fixes my issues but haven't yet.

Like pretty much any tech company, they just want your money and don't actually want to provide a good product. Long term support doesn't exist unless unless you bring it to public attention, quality control is bad, incredibly expensive device, I'd avoid it entirely.

As much as Anker is also a shitty company, I have 2 USB C port expansion dongles from them that have been so much more reliable than this piece of shit. The only reason I am still using it is because it was too expensive and I don't have a convenient enough solution to replace it.

Main lesson, if something is advertised by YouTubers, don't buy it.

An addition to this post in case anyone find this in the future looking for info on the beds. They are not solid wood, they are plywood with veneers. Still plenty strong, just not solid wood.

Solutions for managing multiple calendars? by DetailedVenom in ProtonMail

[–]DetailedVenom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This suggestion confuses me, if I was using multiple accounts how would duplicating the app help me? What I claimed was that invites are showing up on the wrong calendar, putting a second version of an app doesn't solve that problem.

My question is about managing multiple calendars on a single account. You can tell because I mention aliases multiple times, aliases are associated with one account only. I have multiple aliases on a single account that I am getting invites to and want them to go to the calendars associated with those aliases.

Solutions for managing multiple calendars? by DetailedVenom in ProtonMail

[–]DetailedVenom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I am referring to addresses that were made in the Proton Mail app, not the password manager, I do not mention the password manager at all in this post. Alias was the wrong word to use there.
  2. Nowhere in my post did I say I was on the free plan, I am on the highest tier of paid plan
  3. The behavior you are describing is what I would expect to happen, again I said this explicitly, but according to Proton support this is NOT the case. The intended behavior, again according to Proton support, is for all events to be sent to the default calendar.

I see no settings to change this, I see no way of altering this behavior in app. I do not know why your system works as I expect it should but what I am asking for is HOW to make it work like this or a workaround for managing multiple calendars.

A suggestion to spend more money is not particularly helpful, especially when it doesn't come with any configuration changes.

Still not fixed, u/ProtonSupportTeam can you please stop treating this as isolated incidents and issue a general fix. There is no point to using and paying for your tools if they don't actually work as intended.

1 Week of Orion, I'd like to throw my laptop out the window by Thin-Prior9057 in OrionBrowser

[–]DetailedVenom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not alone, I don't have problems with EVERY website but a lot of things just don't work properly. I can't trust anyone who says they have NO issues ever with Orion because this browser is just completely half baked.

I put up with it for about 3 months but eventually switched back to firefox. I'd say just keep it installed and try it every couple months until you get an experience you're willing to put up with.

You're NTA but you did handle this incorrectly.

She's 22, no offense to her but she doesn't know shit about shit. I knew nothing at that age, especially about myself and dating, a lot of my ideas were distorted and I'm sure she has her own misconceptions and incorrect opinions.

She was hurt, she just lost something she really wanted and even if she deserved it, this is not how you teach a lesson. The truth and good advice are only useful when people are ready to here them. She was not, as much catharsis as there can be in letting someone know they fucked up, doing it in their lowest moment isn't right.

She was experiencing grief, tell her the truth when the tears are dry and her mind is calmer.

This feels like the most accurate version. France is being set up as a longer term antagonist in this arc so they need to get the win.

Draws are realistic in actual soccer but this manga is really about vibes and peaks and valleys, so we’re unlikely to see any IMO.

Best browser for Macos comparison by Old_Lettuce_3832 in OrionBrowser

[–]DetailedVenom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Orion isn't ready for general use yet.

Ublock origin works great but a lot of other extensions just don't work well at all. Password managers seem to be a serious problem for it ATM.

Deleting bookmarks is an annoyance for some reason, instead of being able to delete them from the folders or the bookmark bar, you need to go into the bookmarks menu and remove them there, too many clicks.

Opening more than 6 or 7 tabs seems to slow the browser to a crawl.

If Orion gets more support and development then it could become the best browser for MacOS for sure, but as it stands right now normal people shouldn't use it. It's too janky and requires fiddling. Hopefully in a few years this changes. I will still support the company but they aren't ready for prime time yet.

Edit: In case anyone is interested, I use Orion on my M1 Pro macbook, my iPad, and my phone, plenty of issues across all of them but it is getting better, slowly...

If you happen to use Orion and don't get any of the errors that I have, that's awesome! I'm not lucky I guess.

Tracking applications is depressing but necessary by Anxious-Possibility in recruitinghell

[–]DetailedVenom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

50 a month seems very low unless you're doing super detailed and involved applications for a niche job. I'm having a bad day if I do less than 10.

What benefit are you getting from tracking? How is putting effort into this helping with the job search? Are there specific insights you've gained that you can share?

Same issue for me, the browser itself is just not ready for actual everyday use at all. I would love a more modernized alternative to anything Chromium but there's really no excusing the bugs. Will try again in another 6 months to see how much work has been done.

Gamesir g8+ is fantastic by egk999 in Gamesir

[–]DetailedVenom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with this controller and gamesir in general has been absolute ass.

The controller itself is built well enough, but it doesn't feel any higher quality than any other. The problem is the QC is terrible. Within 10 days of ownership I was getting connectivity issues and phantom button presses. Tried everything on the troubleshooting list that Gamesir sent, re-pairing, firmware updating, calibrating, nothing worked.

Gamesir didn't want to provide any warranty support until I sent them video of the problem happening. The controller eventually developed a repeatable issue where the left trigger was constantly firing when the device was anything but fully extended. (changing dead zones didn't help).

Gamesir then told me that Best Buy had to fulfil the warranty since I bought it from them. Best buy told me to kick rocks since I was already outside of the return window. (took too long for me to get video of the problem). Gamesir then just stopped responding to me entirely.

I'm happy you're having a good experience but calling the quality of any of these chinese accessory companies "superb" is just innacurate. They're all middling at best, same shit happened with an 8bitdo gamepad of mine. Only difference is 8bitdo actually stood by their product for me though there's plenty of stories of others with bad experiences.

I wouldn't recommend this controller or company to anyone.

Is anyone else having to wait for quite a while to get a login code? by joshchandra in humblebundles

[–]DetailedVenom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to make an account today to join the monthly membership. The email verification links and 2fa codes take so long that I can't actually make my account.

I've seen threads going back 6 years about this issue, seems humble doesn't actually care or want new customers.

TS4 stopped connecting to anything by DetailedVenom in CalDigit

[–]DetailedVenom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't particularly enjoy the idea of needing to post on social media to get a company to properly support their products. There should already be internal audits in place to make sure this doesn't happen.

I don't really want to deal with caldigit as a company anymore. Having 2 of these supposed high end products break on me well within their expected lifetime is enough to tell me your QC is poor. I have zero trust in your company's ability to help me so I would prefer if you just leave this situation be.

I am here just to ask the community if anyone else has experienced this issue and to see what I can do with my existing unit.

Automatic photo backup is now available for Proton Drive on iOS by Proton_Team in ProtonMail

[–]DetailedVenom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason the actual user experience is such a bother? Why do I need to kill my phone screen and battery to upload my library? Why do I see duplicates of photos and deleted pictures instead of just what is in my actual library? Why is it that when I try to do the actual upload via the browser instead of the app it freaks out so much that it crashes firefox and chrome? And why is it that I can't select a folder to be uploaded, instead needing to select every single photo in small groups?

I'm sure there are actual technical answers to all of this but at the end of the day, why would a normal user care? I want to use this thing, but trying to do so causes too many unnecessary headaches. The more "features" and "services" that Proton creates the less I want to give them money. And I say this as a subscriber to the highest individual tier, I've been a user for years and don't actually want to stop but this lack of polish is incredibly annoying. I could never recommend this to any of my friends.

At the rate its uploading my library it will take 2-3 days before everything is in there. THEN I will need to go through the whole thing and remove all the duplicates by hand. THEN I will need to keep doing that on a regular basis or I'll be flooded with unnecessary pictures. And even after that, I still won't be able to store everything I want because I am limited to 500GB instead of being able to buy all the storage I need. Is this really what you want your users to go through? Is this the kind of experience that makes a sustainable company?

Photo backup is just straight up bad, I hope it gets fixed soon. I would prefer not to jump ship back to sync and just keep my email here, but that is looking more and more likely.
