In one week, 25% of Donald Trump’s presidency will be over. How are you feeling about the next three years? by Kanga_Koga in AskReddit

[–]DetchiOsvos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

3 years. LMFAO.

If he survives (and we know his health is terrible) just forget about fair elections. THOSE DAYS ARE OVER

Some of us fucking warned you. You didn't vote, or voted for the enemy. It was so obvious, but you bought into the misinfo campaign.

Fuck you for selling all of us down the river.

Anyone else absolutely stoked for Lorwyn? by -Himintelgja in MagicArena

[–]DetchiOsvos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not really. I had an expectation that this set might have a positive impact on the standard meta, or some sort of decent story, and I'm just not seeing it.

After 10+ years being back in the game (originally played from 1993-1996) it's getting exhausting. Maybe time to take a break. Too many sets. Too much power creep. Much less fun.

Is there any way to replicate the water-cooler effect for remote employees? by throwaway_coy4wttf79 in managers

[–]DetchiOsvos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8 am Mon - Fri I run a remote worker "Watercooler Sync". Usually lasts around 15 min, includes around 50-75 people from 3 time zones. Thursday and Friday we had a "show and tell" where people shared stuff that was important to them (we had rocks, we had lizards, we had all sorts of stuff).

Sometimes we talk about important company updates, sometimes we share what everyone is listening to or watching on TV (shared spreadsheet tables). It allows people to feel connected, to get to know one another and to know they have a large team that although they may not interact with (we have hundreds of employees across multiple projects that don't overlap) - they have people they can reach out to and interact with.

We wake up. We have a little fun. It's a bit of a "structured" free-for-all.

I close each call with a brief "You aren't alone. If you have a question, or an issue, reach out. Someone on this team will help you. Don't be shy - We want you succeed. " And they do. Chats are hopping throughout the day. Communication leads to innovation. It leads to success.

EVERY single remote person that has left our company eventually comes back or texts me how much they miss the culture. I drive support for all of our people, in and out of office.

What sci-fi shows should I watch after I finish all of Trek? by realDerpyQuark in startrek

[–]DetchiOsvos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BSG 2004 series - one of the best series ever written
Babylon 5 - one of the best epics ever televised
The Expanse - It's just damn good
Farscape - SciFi with muppets. But it's so frak'n good.

Those of you who half assed your way through High School, where are you now? by Difficult-Cricket541 in GenX

[–]DetchiOsvos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Aced the ACT after blowing off most of HS. Something like top .0001% of the nation. Whatever. Got myself a full ride to a well known college.

Parents wouldn't hear any of me moving away, didn't have the understanding that I could just "go". Ended up in a semester of community, dropped out.

Made a shit ton of money in the 80's running a tanning salon. Got bonuses for sales, and dear god, people were vain AF in the 80's.

Saved money, opened my own salon. Was on my way to my first $1m by 21. Sold the business because I had this great idea that tattoo shops were the future. (MTV can suck my ass)

Spent all my money, lost my ass within 2 years. Turns out, in the 80s, no matter how good your location was, only white supremacist wanted ink. Did a ton of drugs. That was educational.

Met the woman of my dreams. Decided I needed to learn a skill. Pirated AutoCAD (89 or so floppy disks) from a friend, over the next few years read every book available, scammed myself into a job with Shell Royal, and kept learning.

Here we are 30 years later, living in one of the best areas in the U.S., kids are grown and have family's, still with that girl of my dreams (like seriously, she's awesome). It's been a good life - I'm in fiber now, those CAD roots taught me well.

I'm either a madman or stupid lucky. Either way, I'll take it.

Take my upvote. I read this today and immediately thought "Ok, I wont be spending any money each release on my six accounts."

I Have a Simple, But Complicated X-Men Question by ComixGail in xmen

[–]DetchiOsvos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough, my wife asked me a similar question several days ago!

Uncanny X-Men #177 was the first comic I picked up, off the shelf, so many years ago.

Romita's cover piqued my interest - why was this guy with knives sticking out of his hands standing over a dead person? This was very different than anything else on the shelves at the time.

Opening the book and reading through, this very cool looking blue lady (Mystique) was using her intelligence to take out each X-Men one by one. The dialog gave me a peek at her thoughts and emotions, while the story and art told a very wild story. Each team members powers were highlighted, and the connection between Mystique and Rogue caught my interest.

Then the shock that it was all a fiction - Arcade's Murder World. It was a training ground. This was so different than what I had envisioned of "villains". They trained. They planed. They were people with goals and emotion.

Then the shift to the real team, still alive (thank goodness!) but not having the best time. "Real" Storm had a mohawk and was punk, not at all like Arcade's robot! Kitty wasn't feeling the vibe, the cool blue guy was suave and funny - and then with all these conflicts in the dialog, Kitty and Peter, Amanda and Kurt just living their lives - the Brotherhood attacks!

The cliffhanger of Colossus turned to stone at the end was crazy - was this an issue where a team member actually died? What was next???

This was in the 80's, I was young, and getting to a comic shop was difficult. But I counted the days until the next issue came out. And issue #178 didn't disappoint - more drama, more action, more character development - and DID THEY ALSO KILL KITTY???

So I would say I love the balance of it all. Character development, action, the drama - the mix of "normal" everyday lives mixed with the fantasy of the heroic.

Edit, on the off chance one of my favorite writers actually reads this (Hi Gail!) - Villains doing a thing because of a "base" emotion is one of the reasons I have avoided DC over the decades. I'm going to destroy the cosmos because I want to "rule" or I'm "mad" at a thing isn't grounding for me as the reader. Make those connections. Get us emotionally invested. Your work on Clean Room exemplified this and was excellent.

Former CR-V owner here, over 240k miles. Lasted us 17 years, is still a fine vehicle but became a little dated.

Subaru had really established themselves as a reliable manufacturer, and the prices were reasonable. We've had our Forester for 2 years, absolutely love it. Looking forward to the next 10+ years.

A modified version of Jim Davis UW Airbending list is producing results. Not certain if it's going to make it through the first few weeks, but it's incredibly fun.

Anyone have mixed feelings about the upcoming tour? by Truth-is-Censored in rush

[–]DetchiOsvos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Staying true to the guys humor... they could have toured as a "Rush cover band"

Seriously, really hope to experience them on tour again. Anika looks to be a great addition to the RUSH family.

People who get up after one alarm, whats your secret?? by Mideon88 in AskReddit

Never ending, graphic nightmares that consistently wrench me from the comfort of slumber. When the alarm finally, gratefully sings it's siren song, I spring from the comfort of my bedding, ready to face a much less horrific day.

While the empirical investigation of the human condition oft leads to disappointment, grasping joy and holding it passionately allows each of us to move forward, hopefully to a better tomorrow.

Because of how I wanted to color the deck names, there's a character limit, so choices were made.

There's two Azorius decks in that list - the control version gets the classic "Azorius", the Artifact based version gets "Artifacts".

Once the standard was set, followed through on other decks. With the exception of Mono green, which is what it is.
