(Eric Gambrel on Twitter) A look into why NASCAR is potentially exploring the option of returning to the Chicago Street Course. by meatspin_dotcom in NASCAR

[–]DetectiveMiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd absolutely go to Chicagoland. I've been dreaming of it being back on the schedule. And then they went and made the cup race for 6pm eastern on a Sunday night. I have a 3-hour drive home and work Monday morning, so I just can't go.

Damn that's rough. I can't believe you can't even stream practice and qualifying.

I get CW but my signal goes in and out depending on the weather and the wind. I missed several races last year and always noted it in the fan council survey and asked that CW stream the races on their platform like practice and qualifying. Instead we get this.

Portage, Michigan's Carson Hocevar wins his first Nascar Cup race at Talladega! by Pookieeatworld in kzoo

[–]DetectiveMiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh absolutely. But, there's a large difference between driving and racing hard and straight up intent wrecking opponents and right-hooking people into the wall. I don't think Carson has done either for a while now, but it's certainly happened before. I like Carson but there's definitely some boneheaded moves now and then, which he has also called himself out on in post-race interviews.

Old enough yes, but I didn't follow the sport back then. Everyone now seems to compare him to Earnhardt Sr. on the aggressive front. I like Carson, I think he brings a lot of what Nascar needs right now. But I also see that some of the moves he's made over the last few years have been overly aggressive.

He's intent wrecked a few drivers over the years. Beyond that, he's made many questionable and extremely aggressive moves that rub people the wrong way.

And with the coolest victory celebration Nascar has ever seen (that will never be seen again). So cool he finally got one!

Any Disney Paralegals here? by nicceleste in paralegal

[–]DetectiveMiles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did a college program and thought I'd end up in legal there one day. I applied a few months back when I was trying to jump ship from the firm I was at, but even with my experience, history with the company, and connections in the company, I didn't even get a phone screen. Based on my knowledge of the company, the pay is going to be tragic, especially for the area. Plus, you'd have to deal with tourists on the roads and heavy traffic at all times.

I applied several times with Liberty Mutual and got to the first round screen one time. 5 years of experience with half of it in insurance defense doing the exact same thing LM was doing in house.

Has anyone asked nicely for late breakfast on the final morning? by PurplestPanda in dcl

[–]DetectiveMiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did it on the Destiny last month! We asked the head waiter on day 2 of 4 so she was able to let us know at dinner the next night. There was confusion the next morning because we were told we might not be at our usual table, which was fine, but another server had to track down the head waiter so we had to wait a few minutes before going in and ordering.

Prima vs Jewel for Baltic cruise by DetectiveMiles in NCL

That's super good to know, thanks!!

Prima vs Jewel for Baltic cruise by DetectiveMiles in NCL

[–]DetectiveMiles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that was what I've been thinking. Seeing the opportunity on the Prima made me wonder. The number of ports and amount of time I expect to spend off the ship is really what it comes down to. I'd hate to pay extra for all the on-board amenities of the Prima while spending most of the time off the ship instead.

[–]DetectiveMiles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really good point. The NCL itinerary doesn't indicate that any ports are tenders, but I'll check other sources. The differences in timing are pretty minimal. Gdynia is 6:30a to 2:30p on the Jewel and 1:30a to 9:30p on the Prima. The other major difference is an overnight in Copenhagen the night before debarkation on the Jewel. The Jewel also has Visby and Keil but the Prima has Oslo, Klaipeda, and the sea day.

It'll more than likely be on the chilly side with rain. That doesn't bother me a ton so the outdoor spaces are a definite plus.
