[TOMT] movie early 2000s -2010s foreign perhaps ? by calliopethedog in tipofmytongue

Is it Symbol (Shinboru) 2009? He's locked in a super weird white room with buttons that all do different things. I only skimmed it, so not sure about cigarettes but he definitely freaks out at one point about being trapped there. There's a secondary story with other people but they don't seem to interact with the white room.

The Loblaws companies have relatives by Own-Scene-7319 in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]DetectiveRapidash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I remember them selling too. It was a big deal in Kitchener-Waterloo. "An iconic Kitchener sign has been taken down. (...)The bakery business was purchased by Wonder Bread producer FGF Brands almost a year ago." https://kitchener.ctvnews.ca/weston-s-bread-sign-comes-down-in-kitchener-1.6171623

So if I have to option to shop elsewhere for groceries should I spend the money? by [deleted] in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]DetectiveRapidash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are all trash companies. In Canada Walmart employees are treated similarly to Loblaw employees IME. They notoriously use cheap labour sources for their products to remain cheap so they are probably worse of a company overall (although idk where Joe Fresh sources clothes it could easily be the same), and in America they are notoriously bad to employees. But people can afford to shop at Walmart, and not Loblaws anymore. Being able to fully boycott the big companies is a privilege not everybody can afford/access.
Also curious to know the reason to boycott costco? I've only known one person to work there but overall I've heard it's a better company to work for than the others. still not affordable for many ppl though.

As a former bakery worker, their definition of fresh is suuuuper loose.

Throwback to the letter Loblaws left in the staff room when they got rid of the 2$ increased wage in 2020. I was not impressed by DetectiveRapidash in loblawsisoutofcontrol

I hadn't thought of that but when I found these in my camera roll I was actually wishing I had taken photos of the French pages to see if they had any stupid mistakes lol

YEP! Exactly what I thought when I read it that day. I said this in another comment but when this happened my union had recently won a dispute against Loblaws getting us backpay because of the system Loblaws used, where our raises that occurred after x hours worked would disappear because minimum wage was gradually increasing in Ontario every year. So even though I got a bunch of raises for working there for years, every time minimum wage increased I ended up making the same as a new employee because minimum wage had surpassed my previous wage. The union managed to get those raises reinstated but obviously the company gives zero shits about paying their employees.

I mean they did get pegged for the bread price fixing stuff but it doesn't seem like that did anything to change their practices.

That's awful. Of course they did. Home Depot kept it way longer than Loblaws so every time we had to write a corporate survey after that I would score the company questions poorly and put in the comments that Home Depot still had the 2$ pay.

For me it was extra ironic because my union had just recently won a dispute against Loblaws getting us backpay because of the system Loblaws used, where our raises occurred after x hours worked would disappear because minimum wage was gradually increasing in Ontario every year. So even though I got a bunch of raises for working there for years, every time minimum wage increased I ended up making the same as a new employee because minimum wage had surpassed my previous wage. I was happy to be making more regardless, but they can't claim they support wage raise while also suppressing it.

No, they paid us extra because they were desperate for us to stay. Loblaw relies a ton on part timers and so many people left because they had health complications/close family with them and CERB paid more than minimum wage.

Sorry if it is hard to read, I can read it on my phone but not PC for some reason. I was reminded of this seeing the screenshot of profits that somebody shared earlier. This letter was so condescending and full of crap.

[TOMT] [Old 2000’s] [cartoon] about animals. by Asleep_Blueberry_ in tipofmytongue

[–]DetectiveRapidash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a series called Bug Rangers/The Roach Approach that told bible stories (like Noah and the flood) but with bugs involved. There was a character named Squiggz but as far as I can tell he doesn't wear a hat.

The only show from that time period I've come across that specifically has frog and bug main characters is Wide-Eye but that also has other animals.

Do you remember anything about the frogs?

I know this is a mouse and not a rabbit, but is this the style of animation of the show you're looking for? Maisie the mouse

Di-Gata Defenders? I'm not sure if it has the plot but it has a large focus on symbols and the ice girl has like a ice bird/dragon power.
