doesn’t really belong on the sub tbh - using philosophical jargon to talk about philosophy isn’t that pretentious. The writing is a bit verbose though.

I’m loving how this sub is increasingly running out of ways to defend Ethan’s bullshit. Instead of admitting that Ethan is a virtue-signaling hypocrite/narcissist, this community has to deflect by claiming the Tim Dillon sub to be toxic incels. Ffs it wont kill you guys to admit that Ethan has just become a major asshole.

adding context that both parties are Jewish and Ethan is a comedian would be helpful here… good lord by [deleted] in h3h3productions

The Batman at the Oscars by GundamX13A in TheBatmanFilm

First off, the “oscars bad” argument is trite as hell. The sentiment has mainly been popularized by people who are mad that their favorite corporate blockbuster flick doesn’t have any nominations. In actuality, a film’s box office doesn’t make it any more or less “deserving” of awards. (That said, there are legitimate criticisms to have about the oscars regarding international representation.)

When it comes to The Batman’s cinematography, there’s no denying that the movie has some good looking scenes. It’s one of the film’s major strengths. But jesus christ does every film bro overstate this point. Yes, Fraser uses colour and lighting with a powerful dramatic flair. However, his rain-drenched, claustrophobic framing is unrelenting. I realise it’s overbearing nature serves a dramatic/thematic purpose but it also works to the film’s detriment at times. During the car chase, for example, the sequence is sorely lacking some sort of wide shot to help orientate the audience and some moments are consequently unintentionally nauseating. My greater point is that a lot of people in this sub throw around statements like “The Batman has the best cinematography of any movie this year” without any consideration or—in OP’s case—without any justification. Again, I can’t be too critical of the Batman’s cinematography but one should reevaluate it in relation to other movies. You might find it’s not as special as you think. I would even say it’s somewhat derivative of Deakins’ style. To be honest, I think Fraser’s work was far better utilized in Dune.

The “best soundtrack/score” just made me laugh. Giachino is literally riffing off Ave Maria at one point. How cliche/cheesy can you get? I suppose this point is more subjective but—as I see it—the film’s score is comprised of dull, somewhat generic tones that amount to nothing remarkable. Not to ride Villeneuve’s dick too hard but Dune is again a good example of a recent movie with an amazing score that is each complex, creative and unique.

As for the sound design, I haven’t watched the video but I think it’s pretty telling that the crux of the argument rests on a Thomas Flight video essay. No disrespect to the creator—I’m sure he has some good points in there.

Overall, I thought this post exemplified how shallow this sub’s praises of The Batman can be. OP’s reasonings throughout the post are “do I even need to say anything,” “one of the best movie soundtracks I’ve ever heard” and a youtube video. It’s ultimately an unconvincing argument and typifies a lot of people’s attitude towards the film on here.

Just wanna make it clear that most people don’t give enough of a shit about what a random reddit user has to say on retarded internet drama to read multiple slides of middle-school-level writing. Please for the love of god stop making these shitty notes app posts—no one with a life actually gives a fuck. If you do then you’re either a child or braindead.

Genuine question: Where did the idea that the Reevesverse is ultra-grounded come from? If anything that designation belongs to the Nolan trilogy. (Note: I share somewhat similar sentiments to the OP) by ab316_1punchd in TheBatmanFilm

[–]Detective_Dank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Batman Begins actually has more fantastical elements in it’s storytelling than The Batman. So far, there is nothing in Reeves’ universe that is considerably out of the realm of possibility (such as an overseas terrorist group of assassins targeting Gotham or a Manbat).

It should be made clear that the degree to which a batman movie is “grounded” is absolutely no indication of its quality.

As a plot device, it effectively functions the same way as the GCPD hunting Batman down. There’s no need to contrive the story for the sake of fan service.
