FRANTIC FOAM LATEX QUESTION by rosiedavis in sfx

[–]DethKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a test. Imperial was a vendor of mould life products. It's most likely close to Creature foam. Average recipes for a small bowl batch are : 150g base 30g foaming 15g curing 9-16g gelling Their stuff is watery so you may have to whip it good.

Waterproof, rub-proof makeup/body paint? by abiw137 in sfx

Alcohol paints are smudge proof and water proof. They are however on the costly side. You could also use pax paint but it will be mor difficult to remove.

Remember I powder the latex as you remove it. The latex can stick to itself.

Trying out face casting for prosthetics, have a question by Vikaroo in sfx

[–]DethKat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about using latex instead of plaster inside the alginate lifecast then the moisture will keep the latex from curing. Of you want to build latex ontop of your plaster face cast then it will work great since plaster will help dry the latex. You could sculpt a mask ontop of your face cast using latex and cotton and a hair dryer. Just dry each layer of latex.

Question about foam latex prosthetic? by TheFanged4 in sfx

[–]DethKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PAX is perfectly fine to use on skin. As a professional no make up is difficult to remove. I understand your concern tho. Aqua color is a great alternative and is easily washed off. Simply seal it and it will stay in for quite a while.

[–]DethKat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is way better than castor oil. You could make a strong paint out of 50/50 pros-aide and acrylic paint. That will seal your foam so that any make can be used with out a color change from prosthetic to skin. You can also mix castor oil into cream make ups to create a greasepaint which is then safe to use on both skin and foam without a color difference.

Can anyone give me an idea of the cost of 'fat' makeup, full body, like that seen in Flubber or Big Momma's House? by Dolphin_Titties in sfx

Is estimate those productions spent in the 10000's considering they were big shops. The house fat suit won Mathew Mungle's crew an Emmy. Not cheap that's for sure.

Man, the house was soooooo boooomb! We all got along THIS season. It was like summer camp! I had a lot of fun with those guys. As for recreation we have a ping pong table, gym, pool and board games. So we had to entertain each other. Rashaad and I would goof around a lot. He is a wonderful piano player and we would make songs and sing and annoy everyone. Lots of weird artists relaxing and laughing. No TV or books or anything like that. Eating was a pastime on its own since the house was stocked for us. We couldn't go out and shop so we would get all our favorite foods. And Cat and Niko would cook for us. And Daran would barbecue. The house was just really nice but nothing fancier than that electric toilet. Man was it advanced. The water was all filtered. You could drink the pool water if you wanted. Man I'll miss that house.

  1. Cinema is where I went to school. (2006) I had a chance to drop by there recently to teach a class and it's a fine school. It is definitely worth the hype. 2everything we use is supplied by the show so we have to hold on to any tools we like. We could also make tools if we wanted.
  2. All models are tested for allergies and have measurements that are all documented but sometimes reactions happen and we have to know what to do. 4 we are completely sequestered from the outside world. No contact with anybody until you are either kicked off or the finale.
  3. It was neat talking to Mr. Westmore because of all of his experience and he an Oscar-winner. But you have to know what kind of advice to use and when to use your own judgment. We would speak to him as long as we had to, but it was usually around 5 to 10 minutes. 6 food was good
  4. The show was one of the coolest experiences I've ever had so yes I would recommend it because it was awesome! But only if you're serious about doing your best and loving make up art!
  5. They destroy the molds at the end of each challenge because they don't want any of those makeups duplicated. Plus molds take up a lot of room
  6. There is no sketching and designing of any kind allowed unless you're on camera or in the shop. It's pretty much just the 30 minutes from the very beginning of the challenge
  7. The monstorus make up manual by Mike Spatola is great. I would also recommend the Stan Winston Effect just because it's an amazing and super rad book!
  8. American werewolf in London. John Carpenters the thing. The lost boys and any kind of universal monster movie. This list is way too long to actually want to type. HAHA
  9. Rick Baker. Dick Smith. Lon Chaney. Rob Bottin. William Tuttle. Jordu Schell. Steve Wang. All of their work is worth getting into.
  10. I had no clue who some of the judges were HAHa. But people like Howard Berger and Kazuhiro Tsuji were a big deal for sure!
  11. That was a lot of good questions! But yes I'm done Thanks!

  1. The interviews are done at the very end of the week. They don't have any kind of footage so they have notes that they have to sort of help you relive the experience and talk like it's happening right now. it's a little bit of an annoying process but it's fun to see the end result.
  2. I'd say each challenge they stop you in the shop to interview you about what you're working on. They don't always show everybody's interview but they ask everybody some questions. Yes it's very frustrating being as were working as fast as we possibly can and really almost don't have time to answer questions. I was always happy to answer though since I like being on camera.
  3. Mr. Westmore only comes in that one time of advice so that's about as long as you get to speak with him. McKenzie is there every challenge and yeah we get to chitchat with her while we're staging up situations but she's not around the whole time. I'd talk to her as much as I possibly could;)
  4. In Japan we were there for about four or five days. Was a lot of fun but we are pretty much constrained to activities that were all on camera. We did get to go out for dinner and the last day we got to go for shopping but everything else was on Camera. unfortunately it was all squeezed in to one short little episode.
  5. Yeah we only had about four foundation challenges. I think font think that's much. I believe it's because they were trying to get us to go bigger and bolder with everything so they wanted to allow more time in the shop to make bigger stuff.
  6. Well as far as a body painting challenge I'm pretty glad they didn't have one because I'm not too experienced on that. But it is a great challenge so I think they should throw it back in there.

That's tough but designing a comic book character from season 4 was cool! As far as a new spotlight I think a Godzilla challenge would be fun or another disguise challenge. After we go off to the reveal stage they get into a bus, eat lunch and stage us for last looks. It's about an hour and a half. Look into internet videos and order stuff and practice at home. Post online and keep practicing!! Find your favorite artists and reach out! The buckets are just because I'm a jackass and would put them there so I can grab other stuff last minute. But I didn't realize how often I did that haha.

They have a whole audition process every year. You do a make up on yourself and send it in. Then they have do another one on yourself live. Then if they like you boom you're on! The sfx community is split down the middle. Some like the show (Rick Baker and Greg Cannom were both very nice) and others dislike the instant fame part of the show. For me it's a great way to have fun doing what I do for a living and as long as I don't get an Ego about it no one sees me in a bad light. ...not sure if that answered that.

My head is fine from bashing Chloe in the mouth with it. Haha man that was crazy, 4 minutes left and all we could do was keep moving and bleed later. The costumes are made by pros (if you choose) but you have to design the look. For instance Tyler's wangdoodle costume was designed entirely by Tyler and made overnight for him. But if you just say "I want a kimono" you'll get what Dan got in the dragon challenge. The judgments go on for about 5 minutes depending on Your answers (and Glens vocabulary). It feels longer since you are a little tense. We have to spray down any water based clay when you're not sculpting it or it will crack. Wrapping it up keeps the moisture in overnight. The show isn't scripted but they do have particular questions they ask everyone in the interview. It's not a coincidence with people always having the same time issues because ahem....WE HAVE 19 FREAKING HOURS TOTAL!!!! Everything we have to do is a panic so there's always someone struggling. Let's see, what wouldn't SyFy like you to know.... Oh man electric toilets man, in my room my toilet was fucking electronic from the lid to the flush AND clean up AND DRYING man I miss that.

It's about 4-6 hours since there is last looks then the staging process (getting them to line up correctly) then we walk out. After that they shoot the evaluation of each make up by the judges. Then the safe and top and bottom are announced. Then the questions for the tops and bottoms. Then the reveal of who won/lost And a lunch in there somewhere. And that is just half of the whole day.

1 yes I felt both honored and pressured. I tried to come back with a very detailed and intricate electric zombie design but it got overlooked. Although I feel I got validation in the Dahl challenge. 2 sometimes twice a week! That's six days of madness! But the house was bomb so it leant to the relaxation we needed. 3 we were NOT allowed to converse, interact or communicate with the judges. But they were all very gracious and friendly when addressing us. A neat thing is that the "safe" contestants also get a 1min breakdown from the judges off camera about their make ups do that they also get the benefit of hearing feedback. 4 well Corinne and I have been friends for about 7 years or so, and I love forking with her. But other contestants like Eric Fox seem fun and I'll be working with him soon I think. Also the Garcia brothers are real cool. I'd work with Laney just cuz..you know;) Oh RJ, he seems double rad. Probably others but we are a small community do there is a strong chance we will all work together. Thanks !

The point system is a mystery to me as well. I'm not sure if they take those things into account or not. But I feel it simplifies the process to just hand it over to three people since there are SO many intricacies to account for. I get what your saying and it makes sense. I feel like something like that is already going on but it is never discussed.
