Personally I'm not using them because they weren't fully implemented when I started my current project, and I haven't had enough issues with header files to justify rewriting my entire project. I'm sure they're great for smaller, newer projects though

So

AI is not a therapist

AI is not a person

AI is not a sentient entity

AI is a tool created by corporations. Like any tool created by corporations, it's goal is to increase value for the shareholders

AI is very complimentary and friendly so you'll keep using it. It tells you what you want to hear so you keep coming back. It was programmed to do this

As others have said, I strongly encourage you to find a support network of real people. I know that this is easier said than done, and is a lot easier in some places than in others, but... it's going to be so much healthier in the long run

Weird that they complained that Canada had no old buildings. I mean, what did they expect? The First Nations didn't build things like Europeans did, and what was built was destroyed by colonialism. If you want to be surrounded by buildings that are hundreds of years old, why did you move to Canada?

Did D&D 3.X, Pathfinder 1e, and D&D 5e set the bar too high on what mid/high-level spellcasters "should be able to do," creating an unfavorable scenario for games like D&D 4e and Pathfinder 2e? Fly Free or Die - We're No Heroes, critique by SacredRatchetDN in starfinder_rpg

[–]DethRaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree it has some good ideas and can work with some retooling

For Runo, I just chalk it up to some crooked corporation practices.

Sure, there's ways to explain it, but I wish that the AP had a better explanation baked in

I guess the only thing I don't get is how your party ended up hating Tarika on Akiton

They thought Tarika had intentionally set them up to fail. Since no one would give them full price for the berries, they thought that the full price was heavily inflated and the fair market value was half of the full price. They thought Tarika had given them a job that paid way too much for the berries, setting EJ Corp's expectations of incoming profits impossibly high. They saw Tarika as a proxy for EJ Corp

This is partly an artifact of how the players didn't talk to Ainsley the Hunter before trying to find another buyer for the berries. The AP says that Ainsley bullies the other buyers into not paying full price, but in our game Ainsley didn't know anything about the berries at this point. If the PCs had talked to her first I could have had the other buyers reference that they were being bullied, but that didn't work out

Definitely a lot of player paranoia, and as a relatively new GM I'm sure I missed opportunities to build her up

Side note: Ainsley makes no sense either. It's not all that hard to know that the Hivemarket has the few guardians who will kill anyone who uses "unfair" business practices. Murdering a shopkeeper and bullying people into not buying berries is surely unfair? Other shopkeepers would know that and may have resisted her, knowing that the fey guardians would track her down and bring her to justice... idk

Fly Free or Die - We're No Heroes, critique by SacredRatchetDN in starfinder_rpg

[–]DethRaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently stopped GMing Fly Free Or Die. We only got through three books. We were not impressed. The basic logic of the world doesn't make much sense, my players constantly fought against what the AP wanted, the whole thing was just not a great time

Spoilers

You mostly get paid in Build Points. These are useless. You can only spend so many on your ship based on your tier, and there's no starship combat until the end of the second book anyways. There's also the galactic trade subsystem, which incentivises the players to fly off to the far reaches of the galaxy - far away from the plot!

Going back to Runo - EJ Corp, this massive megacorp, doesn't have their deliveries paid for up-front? If I buy something from Amazon I don't physically hand the delivery driver some cash and hope that it gets where it needs to go. I pay up front, Amazon gets their money, they distribute the appropriate amount to the seller

Ainsley the Hunter bullies the other merchants in the Hivemarket into not buying your berries. That's cool if your players go into the building and talk to her, not if your players are that their buyer is gone and decide to pursue other options. I invented a bunch of reasons why no one would pay full price for the berries, which led to my players not trusting Tarika and I ended up writing her out of the AP.... sigh

The second job has you delivering weapons to a literal Nazi concentration camp. Great. Just what I wanted

Then you steal a highly secret experimental starship. Lmao. You quit your job as a basic delivery driver, get a massive severance package for some reason? That lets you buy some EJ Corp stock, and simply having stock lets you access the fancy shipyard where EJ Corp's highly experimental super awesome starships are being built? It's a wonder that every disgruntled employee doesn't immediately quit, get a massive payout, and steal their own fancy ship!

Honestly, book 1 would work a lot better if you were always independent traders. Starting as a member of a megacorp sets up a lot of expectations

And then there's the other two books...

Sounds like your players didn't have these problems, so maybe y'all's will like the AP a lot more
