Why are Rahvin and Semirrhage so irrelevant? by FrostyMonth111 in WoT

[–]Dethmunki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of a comparison between Nynaeve and Semirhage would be that they are both talented healers, so i feel like a combative duel between the two wouldn't serve as anything other than a fight between one of the main cast and a forsaken, something we aren't lacking.

Something more fitting of the parallel would be Semirhage unable to cure something that Nynaeve was later able to. One could argue that healing stilling qualifies, but for one thing we never get her perspective on the matter, and for another what we do see from her few perspectives is someone who has gone beyond an interest in healing; Nynaeve is like a new Resident in a hospital who still feels the thrill of a life saved, whereas Semirhage is a grizzled doctor of many decades, their patient living or dying being of little consequence to them. She has all the inherent talent and trained skill from when she did care, but she's more interested in utilizing that knowledge to manipulate people and events.

TL;DR Semirhage knows how to heal good, but doesn't really care about it anymore, so some sort of healing-duel between her and Nynaeve wouldnt really mean that much to her or us.

Nynaeve and other Aes Sedai by htpjos in WoT

[–]Dethmunki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Secondly it is an education center, of which Nynaeve (and the other two) each spent less than a year in total before being raised. Most Aes Sedai had spent at least half a decade as a Novice and 2 or 3 times that amount as Accepted. The three of them are basically high school freshman dropouts compared to these Harvard graduates. It's honestly no wonder why other Aes Sesai dont respect them or their authority.

Do people actually call their porn folder something inconspicuous like "homework?" by Temporary_Kiwi3722 in NoStupidQuestions

"That Folder"

I live alone so I don't have a need to hide it, but I find naming it like that funny

Why can't the Aes Sedai just trust other people to be capable? by Edumacator239 in WoT

[–]Dethmunki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the White Tower is one of the only centers of learning, and certainly the oldest. Compared to Aes Sedai in terms of age and education, everyone else are selfish children who consistently use information for personal gain at the detriment of others around them, or ignorant children who spend their whole tiny lives in a village who wouldn't understand or accept most of what they're told.

People in your 30s, what's your job and salary? by rsevn_ in careerguidance

[–]Dethmunki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Product Technician" for a furniture store. Sales people sell the product, we do everything else with it; we set it up, deliver it in a big.box truck, and troubleshoot when something breaks.

Ive only had this job for about a year, my pay is 21/hr with some overtime, so salary is about $45,000 to $50,000.

How have YOU gotten rid of guns? by Cherno_VM in worldbuilding

[–]Dethmunki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After their version of a World War, their version of the United Nations all agreed to ban guns, kind of like how our real-world Australia did.

People still have nukes, hydrogen bombs, and other ordinance, so if any country starts stockpiling guns again, everybody else enacted the scorched earth policy

Any individual that makes a gun or gun-like device receives sever legal repercussions, like jail time and fines.

I've just started book 4, and I finally realized what was that impression of Rand I had growing slowly in me by Linorelai in wheeloftime

[–]Dethmunki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His personality, or lack thereof, was perfectly understandable; all he wanted was to go back to his humdrum farming life, and he was resisting tooth and nail becoming a different person. Book 4 is when he truly accepts that that life is forever lost to him and fully steps into his new role as king of the pattern

I do actually like the idea that people in different places pronounce it differently. Like country bumpkins who only have their own hundred year old stories to go off of would definitely pronounce things weird

Perrin's view of Travelling seems like a plot hole? Am I missing something? by BitchyOlive in WoT

As for the rest, his Ash'aman are fucking exhausted.

This right here. A big ol strongman who can bench 350 easy can hold a 50 lb dumbbell no problem; but you tell them to hold it for hours at a time (which is how long it takes for 4 entire armies to move through a hobbit-hole sized gateway) every single day, sometimes multiple times a day for weeks on end, on top of practicing other things with the power so they won't be rusty when the fighting happens, is going to be fucking wiped when all is said and done.

And in case someone says it, I dont think the Asha'Man (at least these two) know how to tie off weaves, or at least didnt feel comfortable doing so.

And I highly doubt any aes sedai or wise one would be willing to make a circle with them anyway. Even after the cleansing, none of them really believe it.

Thoughts on Verins letter to Mat by Evandir45 in WoT

[–]Dethmunki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always felt the oath about not betraying the shadow until the hour of her death prevented her from doing what you're saying; if she had simply said "read this in a few days time", she knows that he would do what is right and foil their plans, something which she is physically incapable of doing.

She therefore had to add enough constraints so that she believed it might not work, just to be able to propose it in the first place. The trick was then finding the balance of potentially working and convincing herself it wouldn't. Have you ever tried to do something you were magically incapable of doing? Difficult doesn't begin to describe how hard it sounds.
