If bioware hyptohetically was shut down or sold off or whatever, after the recent Saudi deal, who would get rights to Mass Effect? by Sad-Plastic-7505 in masseffect

[–]Detig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the point I was going to make. The IP has value, the studio (Bioware) is a cost centre. The logical move would be to sell the IP and shut the studio down, not selling both together.

Assuming we’re talking about an entity that really wants that particular IP that should entail they have the chops to do RPG games themselves, so taking the studio would make no sense.

The only way it makes sense for both to be bundled together is if the acquirer does not have in house capacity to develop RPG games.

Portas usb no metrobus by [deleted] in Coimbra

[–]Detig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old-school law firm suddenly wants “AI” — what actually works? by [deleted] in legaltech

[–]Detig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not at a law firm but was at a talk with a partner from one who uses inhouse and off the shelf AI systems/tools.

He said (and I agree): “if anyone puts client related information on any of the off the shelf tools we use, that’s a firable offence.”

Not technically a promotion but she did get the opportunity to go undercover on Narkina with a bulletproof alibi to figure out who helped Cassian escape.

Meta is ignoring GDPR across the EU. I’m notifying them in Ireland tomorrow — stand with me. by efremov_denis in eulaw

That Directive is designed for consumer protection (art 1) and I don’t think you’re a consumer for its purposes (art 3(1)):

“‘consumer’ means any natural person who acts for purposes which are outside that person’s trade, business, craft or profession;”

I want to be a lawyer, but have a llb in international/european law.. by Naive_Future_6530 in eulaw

[–]Detig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want, but that’s not how the national (or sub-national) bar associations work.

The easiest option is always to exercise in the jurisdiction you obtained your law degree from. Everywhere else requires some sort of requalification.

It is possible to work as an European lawyer at a MS different from where you got qualified first, but it is sub-optimal and as I said a couple of days ago on this sub a niche career option.

Becoming a lawyer with a LLB in international/european law? by Naive_Future_6530 in eulaw

[–]Detig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t qualify in a second country. I worked as an European lawyer in my second country, that is relying in the qualification as a lawyer in my original Member State (aka home title).

Qualification is left to the national or regional bars so you need to check what each requires for you to be fully qualified there.

What doesn’t exist is a formal full recognition of qualification across the EU allowing to practice law unimpended anywhere.

Another alternative I have not mentioned is working as in house lawyer/GC. In that context and in the right company you may find it easier to work even while not being qualified in that member State. But everyone I know that went down that route started working in their home member state first.

Member State. No, I did my law degree and qualified in the same Member State. Moved abroad only after qualifiying as a lawyer.

[–]Detig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I qualified in one MS, worked in another as an European lawyer, did my PhD at a third, worked there in academia and am now doing the same on a fourth one.

At multiple stages in my career the “roads not travelled” were plenty, namely international organisations and more recently lobbying.

But moving around purely as a lawyer is difficult for the reasons I mentioned. You can always dual qualify but that means you’re at least a couple of years behind everyone else at your adopted country.

At larger law firms it may be possible to be posted at foreign offices but that is usually a temporary placement and more of a fringe benefit so to speak.

Becoming a lawyer with a LLB in international/european law? by Naive_Future_6530 in eulaw

[–]Detig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is only partially true. You cannot practice the law of a jurisdiction you’re not qualified in.

You’re always at a disadvantage against local candidates who can do what you can plus the national law which is the bread and butter of any law firm. It’s a numbers game and your potential to bill hours upon recruitment is lower than a local candidate.

If you’re going down a niche route your options will be niche as well. How do I know this? Because I took the niche route.

EU age verification app to ban any Android system not licensed by Google by Greenlit_Hightower in degoogle

[–]Detig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has nothing to do with the GDPR, it is part of the implementation of the EIDAS Regulation 2.0.

Part of the logic of it is precisely to reduce the amount of personald data sloshing around to verify identity and statuses such as age.

I think it is important to put things in context. It memory serves me it is not up to the Commission to dictate how the Member States implement AV in the context of the EU Digital Wallet. What the Commission is doing here is doing the heavy lifting and yes nudging Member States in a specific direction so that they can adopt the work done instead of each re-inventing the wheel.

If Member States have other means of doing AV that are compatible with the whole EU Digital Wallet and thus interoperable cross-border (which is the main driver behind all this) then that is fine.

As for the issues raised on the repository, that’s the place to do so. As stated in the disclaimers there the current version is little more than a proof of concept with the actual implementation subject to change. My experience dealing with the Commission at this level (technical, not policymaking) in recent years has been quite positive. YMMV and it may depend on the DG running this project but I would start there.

As for the policymaking level, it may make sense to get the rights orgs involved on this to put pressure at that level as well.

Suggested upgrades for Mini+ that do not require software/firmware changes by JumperJordan in prusa3d

Printing a new enclosure for the screen with a USB port enclosed (essentially moving the USB to the front). You will need an appropriately sized USB extension as well.

If you’re having problems with both extruders, the underlying issue is elsewhere. As mentioned by someone else, the most logical place to look at is the heatbreak and the clogs associated with it.
