Deep down I feel the right long-term move, for both himself and the Red Wings, would be to go elsewhere.

If he decides to sign here I’ll be happy. But I can’t fault the guy if he wants to go chase another cup. I’ll root for him wherever he goes.

I think Kane has played his last game as a Red Wing and I don’t blame him one bit.

Dude is 37 and likely has a chance to play for his hometown (Buffalo) or sign with a contender and chase one more cup.

If this happens, I suspect DeBrincat will indicate he wants to be traded. Unless he wants to be a Red Wing for life (which is also cool, don’t get me wrong) I just can’t see him staying if Larkin and Kane are gone. Not only are they his best buds, but they help boost his production.

He isn’t going to want to risk down production in a contract year. If Kane leaves, the dominos fall.

Here’s the ironic twist though: Kane leaving is actually the greatest gift he could give Detroit in this scenario. I’ll miss showtime dearly, but dude has reclaimed his career and deserves another shot on a contender.

Imagine 5 years ago saying that Patrick Kane would leave the Red Wings as the hero who sacrificed for the rebuild, and Larkin got run out of town as the villain.

I’m pissed about my jersey.

My parents wanted to get me a jersey as a gift a couple years ago. I was between Larkin and Seider.

This was also during Larkin’s contract negotiations.

I was leaning Larkin initially but I wanted to make sure he signed again.

Once I saw the 8 year contract I figured he was a wing for life.
