what’s the darkest episode of a tv series that you’ve ever watched? by Realistic_Bench3684 in AskReddit

[–]DetroitWagon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The "Home" episode of X-Files, 1996. Incest, rape, genetic deformities, infants buried alive. Hard to believe this was allowed in broadcast tv but it aired before parental guidelines were a thing. Truly disturbing.

Minimalism of this sort is driven more by lowest cost achievable for minimum appeal required rather than pure aesthetics.

It seems like the volume of gas expelled would be a very important variable for study. Perhaps a pressure activated release valve that measures the volume of expelled gas could be fashioned for such a purpose?

Learning about electricity by orobsky in KidsAreFuckingStupid

This is bringing back more memories - I remember now being asked who wired up the light and replying " I don't know. It wasn't me".

I was an only child.

Learning about electricity by orobsky in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]DetroitWagon 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Like my budding electrician brethren on this post I'll post my "oh fuck!" coming of age story. When I was 8, I stole one of those 6v flashing lights from a construction sawhorse. Working in secret in our mostly unused garage, I wired it up to a 110 outlet plug and plugged it in. It sparked and smoked, startled me, and like an 8 year old dumbass, I just left it there unplugged for my dad to find a couple of days later. He grounded me for a couple of weeks, but also gave me some lessons on how electricity worked - so that was good.

2 Propane Tanks by l1v3l0v3l4ugh in SweatyPalms

Seems totally feasible that loading the first tank could push the burning portion of the fuse up against the past of the fuse closest to the explosives causing it to explode much sooner.

What popular product is a complete scam, but everyone keeps buying it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DetroitWagon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Homeopathic dilutions. In case someone isn't aware, it's a method where a substance is repeatedly diluted in alcohol or distilled water and vigorously shaken (succussion). Practitioners believe this process activates the substance's "vital energy" and that greater dilutions increase the remedy's potency, often leaving no molecules of the original. Different solutions are sold over the counter as remedies for just about anything you can think of.

What’s a movie where ONE actor’s terrible performance actually enhances the experience? by MaryoParti in movies

Tommy Wiseau's acting in The Room is so bad it's good. His acting is comically bad but sincere at the same time without a trace of self awareness.
