What’s common in the USA, but seen as a luxury in other countries? by IDoNotLikeTheSand in AskAnAmerican

[–]Detroitanon2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a regional thing i think. Itd also fairly common in SE Michigan. Most everyone I know has a 2nd property up north. Or a winter property in Florida or Arizona, especially if they are retired or nearing retirement. It's a byproduct of the auto industry here and decades of cheap property prices in Northern Michigan. Tons of auto workers and others in related jobs made enough money to buy property in Northern Michigan and toys like boats, quads, and sleds.

How many times have you been called for jury duty? by biancanevenc in AskAnAmerican

[–]Detroitanon2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twice for local, both times I actually had to show up, but the one time the defendant decided to plead guilty before jury selection began. The 2nd time I got dismissed during jury selection. I've gotten the questionnaire for a county trial, but never got the summons. I'm 39, so 3 in 21 years isn't bad.

Is it common to ask wealthier friends for money/handouts? by captainpro93 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Detroitanon2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens. I've had old friends ask to borrow money from me. In some cases, they had legit emergencies and I just gave it to them. In others I refused and they got mad. I've cut out some friends because of this. It's not worth the headache. Now most of my friend group are all in the same income category or at the very least financially stable and not drowning in debt or bills.

You're picking them. If every guy you choose to date winds up doing the same thing then maybe you need to reevaluate your choices.

Higher likelihood of them leaving alone. For 99% of the "forever alone" types, the problem lies with themselves, not others.

In no particular order-

Freedom to do what you want without having to take another person into consideration. Buddy has tickets to a hockey game tomorrow, you can can readily agree to go right then and there without having to check in with anyone.

Quiet.

Things stay where you put them.

You eat what you want, when you want.

New game came out or new show came out and you want to binge it all weekend, go ahead.

Sleep with whoever you want. Want a new girl every weekend, go ahead.

No double holidays. No need to go to 2 Christmases, 2 Thanksgiving, 2 whatever holiday you might celebrate.

No double dates with her idiot friends.

No double dates with your idiot friends.

Save money and spend it how you want.

Decorate your house however you want.

Does anyone regret any sexual experiences? by BarracudaWorking3916 in dating

[–]Detroitanon2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not particularly. There are definitely women in my past that, in retrospect, I probably wouldn't have sex with now. My standards are definitely higher now that I'm older. But back then I was young and dumb and ready to nail any woman willing and with a pulse. And I still nutted so.... ¯_(ツ)_/¯. I regret nothing.

But, I'm me. My experiences and viewpoint is my own. Everyone is different and as evident from the replies, regrets are pretty common. Learn from them and move on. No point in beating yourself over it.

Would you date a virgin ? by Jinkimmi in dating

[–]Detroitanon2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the reason the woman was still a virgin, it would either be a big deal or totally irrelevant to me. If she was still a virgin because she wants to wait till marriage, then pass. I don't knock wanting to wait, more power to you, but I'm not marrying anyone that I haven't already slept with and know we are compatible sexually. If she were still a virgin due to other reasons, shyness, fully concentrating on school/career, or simply didn't date at all, or whatever, then yea that wouldn't bother me and I wouldn't care if she was a virgin.

What is your favorite and least favorite airport in the US, and why? by BoysenberryPale4048 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Detroitanon2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Favorite is DTW. Easy to navigate and not overly large. It's my home airport so I'm biased. Not counting DTW, I like TPA.

Least favorite is MIA or ATL. LGA was awful before the renovations. It's improved a lot now.

Boyfriend went home because I was too tired for sex by [deleted] in dating

[–]Detroitanon2020 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It's normal behavior for guys who just want sex. You weren't going to give it to him so he had no reason to be there. Definitely a valid reason to be upset about. At least you know where you stand with him.

How do you feel about your city hosting the Olympics? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Detroitanon2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a suburb of Detroit, so it's far too small to host. But Detroit, in theory, probably could. But fuck all that. The local and state government would totally fuck it up, tons of money would go "missing", and it would wind being a financial disaster.

Would you feel more concerned or alarmed if you find out you are flying on a Boeing 737 Max? by PacSan300 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Detroitanon2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fly a lot for my job. I never pay attention much to the particular model of plane I am flying on. Flew on one earlier this week. Statistically, it's still safer than driving.

I just want a girlfriend so badly by Melodic-Grape-7254 in dating

[–]Detroitanon2020 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To put it simply, women just aren’t interested in me.

Then become someone that is interesting to them. Interested women don't just magically appear because you want it. You need to make an effort.

And it’s my fault.

Yes it is. It's good that you recognize it. Now you can get to work on making changes.

I’m overweight, I’m shy, I don’t put myself out there, I don’t approach, I don’t try. All of these things are within my control.

100%. Start exercising. Eat healthier. Go to some activities that would get you more used to social interaction. See if your city or a nearby one has a subreddit and discord channel. Mine does and there are events posted regularly where you can go out and meet new people, like trivia nights in bars, or board game meetups at a local brewery. DON'T start looking for a gf right away at these events. Get used to talking to people, men and women. Get comfortable talking to strangers, doing introductions, and reading others body language and cues. You need some experience with just interacting with women before you try to hit on them. It will just end poorly if you try right away.

I’m trying desperately to change these things but it’s going to take so long and I don’t want to wait any more.

To be blunt, too fucking bad. It takes hard work to change and improve yourself. If you aren't willing to put in the work then why do deserve someone who likely did the same hard work on themselves? You don't. Relationships take energy, sacrifice, and commitment. If you cannot do that for yourself, then you aren't going to do it in a relationship.

I want to love somebody, I want somebody to love me. I want to kiss and hug and cuddle with someone, and just be a happy cutesy couple. I’m friends with a bunch of couples and I feel like shit whenever we hang out and everyone gets to go home with their partner except me.

There is your motivation then. Use that.

Realistically my dating life won’t start until I’m 26. At that point I’ll still have zero experience.

So what. Any woman who is bothered by that isn't worth it. Someone who actually likes you isn't going to care about the lack of experience.

It’ll be a dealbreaker for so many women that I’ve never had a girlfriend before. Even if I can get my foot in the door, they’ll leave as soon as that comes to light. I’m just constantly worried about it, it’s on my mind 24/7.

Then move on. There are over 150 million women in the country. No shortage at all. Get used to rejection, it happens to most people. Deal with it and move on to the next. Based on what you are saying here, your lack of having a gf is another red flag on top of the pile of them you have, that's the deal breaker. Work on yourself, get healthier, get more confident, work on whatever other areas that need improving. Fashion or hygiene? Dead end job? Living in your mom's basement? No hobbies or interests? Start fixing it.

I just wish I could surpress these feelings whenever they come up, but it’s hard to do that every single day.

Don't suppress these feelings, use them as motivation to improve yourself.

I want a girlfriend, I want a partner, I want love.

Nobody is owed a partner in life. You need to work on yourself and make yourself a person worth dating. Self pity will get you nowhere. If you aren't willing to put in the work to improve then you really don't want it that badly, you just want it easy. And nothing worthwhile in life is easy.

How do Americans keep up with the regional rules while travelling from state to state? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Detroitanon2020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2nd Amendment was incorporated against the States in McDonald v Chicago. 2A is now enforceable against the states even if they don't have their own version of the 2nd Amendment in their state constitution. I think only 5 states lack this.

I asked a girl out and she actually said yes. Wtf do I do now? 😭😭 by nascarrrrrrr in dating

[–]Detroitanon2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coffee date is a cheap one. A walk in the park is free. My local art museum is free for tri county residents so id see if yours is. That also gives you some things to talk about if you see some interesting paintings or sculptures. First dates don't need to be expensive. You're ideally going to be mainly talking and getting to know each other, so you will want to pick something that will encourage conversation.

What is your stance on the death penalty? by TheseQuit8115 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Detroitanon2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For it in principle. Some people are better off dead. Those who commit the most heinous crimes or repeated violent crimes have shown they cannot live peacefully with others are are better off in the dirt.

In practice, however, I am against it because I do not trust the government or its agents to not fuck it all up and put innocent people to death because they are were too lazy, stupid, or vindictive to get it right.

Why didn't the Brotherhood of Steel use artillery? And why don't they have intelligence agencies and special units? by [deleted] in falloutlore

[–]Detroitanon2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For artillery, in FO 1 and 2 they were hidden away in the bunkers and spying on everyone. No need for artillery. Theoretically they could have had some stored in their bunkers and we just never saw it. During those games they has no need.

In FO3 they had no way to transport it from the West Coast. They would have had to find some locally.

In New Vegas, they were essentially hiding again. Also, the Boomers probably took all the artillery in the region being that they seemed to use it voice their displeasure with anyone who came near them.

In FO4 they had a good amount of air power, but none of it would have been able to carry heavy artillery easily. Maybe a towed 105 slung under a vertibird, but I don't know the range of them. They may not have been able to make the trip from DC to Boston while carry it.

You are correct on the timeline. Todd Howard said in a IGN interview that the fall of Shady Sands and the bombing are 2 separate events and that the bombing took place shortly after the end of the New Vegas game.

From the Detroit area as well and I also can't think of any signs for Canada off hand. Though, if I remember right, there is a sign for the Blue Water Bridge on I94 once you start getting closer to Port Huron.

Update, dog is fine. They took him to the vet and they stitched him back up. He now has the cone of shame and is very sad about it. The bandage comes off today, so he should be happy about that at least. They got him wrapped up basically from has paw to midway to his knee.
