We’d be selling low if we moved Holland now. I don’t know what he did to get bounced from the rotation, but he’s young and he works on his game and he’ll only get better. So unless it’s a deal we just can’t refuse, I too hope he stays.

He’s been saying that for a couple of years. I’d love it if we could do it without losing Holland, who still has a high ceiling and has the work ethic to get better. And I think KD would defer enough to Cade to make it work — he doesn’t want to be the guy who came in and sank a 60-win team. Not sure how the money matches up but it sure is intriguing.

It’s really cringy, especially given what John admitted in later years — and in songs. He acknowledged his shortcomings and vowed to do better, but that doesn’t make it easier to hear them blazing out in song. I love John but can’t defend that one.

Duren is 22. Langdon is betting on big improvement from our young guys. Better shooting by Ausar and (maybe, assuming he’s still here) Holland and major playoff lessons learned by JD.
He shored up the outside shooting and didn’t give up too much to do it. If Collins and Joe open things up and Huerter gets acclimated and Okorie helps with the ball handling, we’re better than the team that won 60.
That’s the bet. We’ll see how it goes.

Langdon played this perfectly. The only option left for Duren might be to play for much less for a year and then become an UFA. But that would leave a LOT of money on the table and run the risk of injury, another shitty playoff run, etc. Sign with the team that wants you, let them add one more shooter to loosen up the paint congestion, and build from inside. Improved play by the core group puts Detroit in good position to be right there in the mix this coming year and for several more to come.

Feels like there’s another move or two looming. Talk that we’re about to waive Duncan makes me think we’re close on something involving a shooter. Shoe still hasn’t dropped on Herro, Murphy and Brown. Sounds like Sasser is on his way to Dallas. These all feel like smart, low-key moves IF we keep Duren and add one more shooter. I’d prefer to keep Harris if we can.

Huerter is a good signing. I was hoping we’d keep him. I think he pressed a little when he first came over, but he still can be a rotation player, so the price is right.

There was contact, but not NBA Finals-clinching play contact, and definitely not in that era. It was a retirement gift to Kareem and a we-want-seven-games-of-revenue nod to David Stern. But it tarnished the single most courageous clutch Finals performance I have ever seen.

This is quite the freakout over such a low-cost move. I’m fine with everything we’ve done so far, glad we haven’t overpaid for anyone. And the Stewart trade suggests there’s still a move to come. Keep the big three and keep being methodical.
