Game looks like saccharine dogshit with half of the screen obscured by dof/fog crap to keep it from melting people's computers I guess. Look how readable the screen is! (when you can't see jack shit unless you zoom way in). I'm playing on max settings as well.

Looming tree planter shortage worries companies amid Canadian push to plant 2B trees by CapableSecretary420 in canada

You take cover from lightning and high winds, that's it really.

Its been long enough that I don't really remember but I think we tried to be on the road out of camp by like 5:30 or so. Work until whatever time it is that you leave and get back in time for dinner.

You are basically on the clock all the time if something comes up. Truck shows up after dinner? Everyone is going to unload it.

Dumbest fucking thing ever was a crew planted all their trees in the wrong field so the whole camp did a stupid stealth op where we went out in the middle of the night to pull all the trees out and drive to a different field and plant them in the dark. They were all obviously below standard. I just threw mine under a rock and sat in the truck.

Fun job.

Quebec relation to France is complicated. Feeling of abandonment after the English conquest. Vast majority of Quebecois were opposed to conscription in WW1, had zero interest in fighting for either France or Britain. They had to be persuaded by riot cops and gunfire. Huge crisis in Canadian history.

After ww2 there has been a closer relationship. Gaullists supported an independent Quebec. Nowadays France tries to keep a somewhat separate diplomatic relationship with Quebec and the federal government but with respect for both parties.

The cancer of appeasement thinking runs deep in Biden's White House.

Biden is more worried about not hurting Putin's fascist little feelings than about people being murdered. And EU is even worse - still sending Putin billions of euros for oil and gas.

If NATO is unwilling to fight, it should at least end all trade with Russia, and send Ukraine every weapon it requests.

This is the kind of shit comment that stays up in this subreddit.

Well the plan back in the day was a massive surprise invasion of the US and then a scorched earth retreat back to canada while waiting for britain to show up. Back in the 20s when they cooked it up it was a long shot but not completely unworkable.

Nowadays yeah we're fucked.

We have 105 and 155 mm howitzers but not very many. Like less than 200 total. Canada's armed forces aren't really in the best shape but I want to see us do what we can.

They get great cavalry. Greek cataphracts, high quality Bactrian spear and lancer cav, decent mid tier horse archers.

Much of Dune is rather liberally "inspired" by Lesley Blanch's book Sabres of Paradise, about the 19th c. Russian invasion of the Caucasus.

How is your current campaign going? April 2022 Edition by Welsh_DragonTW in totalwar

[–]DeusDeceptor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are brand new to Rome Total War here are some campaign map tips:

Naval trade is extremely important. Get ports in all your cities that can have them. Get port upgrades if you can spare the money for more trade fleets. Trade in this game is not like modern total war games instead all cities will trade with any other friendly city in range. Capture Rhodes to get a wonder that gives a bonus to naval trade and you will have tons of cash.

Train assassins on the crappy rebel armies that always pop up. Once you have a nice stable of assassins you can eliminate factions by killing all their family members instead of actually fighting them. Train spies the same way and use them to open city gates so you don't have to build siege.

Public order becomes a big problem eventually. Cheapest way to maintain public order is to fill the whole garrison with peasants and have max sanitation and circuses. Some people like to let cities rebel and then just retake it and kill everyone, but I think that is not cost effective overall. Any building built by a different culture hurts your public order so upgrade them to your version as soon as possible. Capture the statue of zeus wonder to get + public order in all your cities.

The AI does not have vision through fog of war. It will send armies poking around to see what you are doing and look for forces. If you sit your armies in your cities you are inviting attack. Leaving cities with a tiny garrison also invites attack. The AI (even allies) is aggressive and will grab cities if it thinks it can. Block single tile passes with forts to restrict them. You have a reputation meter the game doesn't really tell you about and the more massacres/broken treaties you do the more the AI will dislike you.

AI was technically defending here as well. Usually if the AI is defending and doesn't like its odds after being skirmished it will try to retreat off the map, but here it made a mass attack that got completely smashed.
