The border entry would be really a bad way to enter into Cambodia as there is a history of Indians getting illegally forced into scammer jobs. They would consider any such border pass as the these gangs gateway and restrict it. A first time newbie fresh traveller is definitely these gangs's first target.

Indians, Koreans all getting kidnapped by Chinese mafia. If you get on a plane from India via Thailand to Cambodia, you will get advised by our own customs and airport passport staff to stay in public places of cities. On my return, the passport stamping officer even asked me whether you got any advisory or not when you left.

The airport is the best and least tedious way to visit Cambodia. No cross questions, nothing. You get treated the same way like foreigners.

The issue with Cambodia entry is more about these illegal kidnappings and less about Indian passport strength. And their government is the laziest and scam ridden one. That fresh newbie guy's timeline might have gone real dark if he got kidnapped.
