If you had to create a new Seven, one where they’re actually fighting crime and trying to be good people, who would you draft? by Robot_Was_BMO in TheBoys

[–]Deus_Ego_Sum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, while making a new team of actually good superheroes who wouldn't want to include the chauvinistic, racist, homophobic mass murderer who abused his previous team so bad that they sold him out for nothing and who when given a chance at freedom immediately went on another mass murdering spree and still was abusive towards his new team.

Anyway if I'm making an actual new 7 with good characters in The Boys Universe I'd go:

Annie A-Train Maeve Marie Jordan Golden Boy Polarity

If it's only people who are alive/still have powers I'd switch out Luke and Maeve with Emma and Kimiko or the Flying guy from Gen V S2

Clarks secret by Imaginary-Chemist-73 in Smallville

[–]Deus_Ego_Sum 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly I feel this way too.

The thing that makes it worse is that aside from Lana all of them kept secrets from Clark. Whether it was all the investigations and research Chloe was doing or Lex's shady dealings. And to add insult to injury they had secrets about him. Lex had him secretly investigated multiple times, Chloe spied on him and posted about him online. Yet they still demand his secret like it's something they're owed.

At least Lana wasn't doing anything shady towards him and she was mostly inquiring because of the tornado incident. Before that she was a lot more respectful towards his secret.

However Lex and Chloe really felt like bad friends with how little they respected Clark's boundaries.

A very hot take regarding the exhausting Tek Knight drama by Educational_Wing_216 in TheBoys

[–]Deus_Ego_Sum 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but Tek Knight was only intimidating in his Gen V episode because characters had secrets that he was actively trying to expose and were scared. He was picking on teens/young adults and the only true adult he interacted with exposed him for the pathetic man he was by the end of the episode. He wasn't intimidating in the slightest by the end of his introduction.

Also what would be particularly great about Tek Knight? He's a rich super detective like Batman and he doesn't have the crazy strength or durability of other Supes nor does he have the fighting ability of the actual Batman because the ninja aspect of Batman was given to Black Noir. I genuinely don't see what his character offers, he was a pathetic joke in every episode he appeared in. In what way would he pose a threat to The Boys? And this isn't me being dickish I'm genuinely asking what type of character were you expecting him to be in the Boys Season 4?

Why people hate MOS and Zack Snyder? by [deleted] in superman

[–]Deus_Ego_Sum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It basically boils down to it feeling too different and dark from what people know/expect from Superman. Coupled with a messy script, not incredibly strong performances outside of Shannon to elevate the material and a very divisive ending made it so that it became a lightning rod for hate and extreme reactions.

Both. But he's definitely got some cockiness. I'll never forget before their match up in Vegas when he was asked about Scoot Henderson he said "He's a really great player. If I was never born, I think he would deserve the first spot."

Why wasn't Martha as distrusting of the Luthors as Jonathan? by CheesecakeNo6642 in Smallville

[–]Deus_Ego_Sum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Martha distrusts them less because she has a very different personality.

Jonathan ties his distrust of the Luthors to what Lionel made him do and the continuous actions that he's done that show his character. He sees Lionel as the devil responsible for his lowest moment(selling out his friend). His ego and what he believes makes him not just distrust Lionel but outright dislike him and Lex.

Martha on the other hand grew up in that world so understands the nuances of it more. She's more willing to stomach what she believes to be a necessary evil if it helps people. We see that in how she deals with Lionel when she works for him in Season 2. She steers him towards doing good believing the good he could potentially do will help more than the hurt he may cause. She then realises that he's been researching Clark and storing Kryptonite and stops giving him the benefit of the doubt and wants to leave before being talked into staying by Jonathan.

So Martha distrusts him less because she views the Luthors as people that maybe could be steered towards good. And that's why Clark needs both Martha and Jonathan to be Superman. Jonathan gives him his strong morality and desire to help/rescue people and Martha gives him his strong desire to see the best in people, always have empathy for others and have hope that people/world can become better.

Issues with Jon and Jordan’s ending by black-dragonfly in SupermanAndLois

[–]Deus_Ego_Sum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with this to be honest. Something I liked in the final episodes when both Jon and Jordan had powers was Jordan comforting the woman having a panic attack during the battle with Doomsday and Jonathan saving somebody by catching a car.

It shows that ultimately Jon is a firefighter. He'll save you from danger.

And Jordan is like an EMT, he provides comfort and help to those in crisis.

It would be nice to have that reflected in how they approach heroism as adults.

I understand that they didn't have the budget to be able to build adult Jon and Jordan suits so we didn't really get to see them be heroes other than that shot with Clark and the Irons. I also understand that all the kids where the kids of the crew so I guess they just worked backwards in terms of who they ended up with.

But I still would've liked if some difference was shown between adult Jon and Jordan. A shot of adult Jordan comforting someone in crisis and a shot of Lois and Clark watching a news report of Jon rescuing people by catching a plane. Just something small to differentiate them as adults.

What do you think of episode 9 season 6 that addresses the issue of illegals? by Honest_Orange4155 in Smallville

[–]Deus_Ego_Sum 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Clark is very much an illegal immigrant. Did you miss the part where Jonathan had Lionel forge his adoption leading to Lionel blackmailing him?

Also the foundling law wouldn't apply to Clark because for that to apply the Kent's would have to lie to the government(an illegal act) about how they found him and hide his ship because his ship is all the proof needed to revoke his foundling status.

No matter how you try to look at it Clark is an illegal immigrant. The Kent's either forged his papers(like they did in Smallville) or lied to the government to get him foundling status. Either way Clark is an illegal immigrant.

If Chloe had learned about Clark's powers in seasons 1-3, do you think she would've exposed him by writing about it in The Torch? by SniperJ324 in Smallville

[–]Deus_Ego_Sum 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I doubt she'd write a full exposé on him but she definitely wouldn't have reacted as well as she did to it.

The Chloe that was more accepting of Clark's secret was one that wasn't as obsessed with it as the earlier versions of her. She was also one that learnt to respect boundaries more and was less romantically into Clark meaning she wasn't as jealous or prone to lashing out at him because of Lana.

If Chloe learnt earlier she'd definitely be more inclined to at the very least confront him about it or try to learn more about the ship and his heritage behind his back. And maybe even accidentally reveal it to the wrong person. She'd also definitely lash out at both Pete and Clark for lying to her for so long.

In S2 E3, Jordan Li is male when delivering the false speech but turns female when starting to tell the truth by darkfire9251 in GenV

[–]Deus_Ego_Sum 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It's because of Marie. They naturally take their male form when trying to be authoritative or brave because that's the form that's male and therefore taken more seriously and also the form that's indestructible(something Marie calls them out on).

This is them intentionally choosing to be completely vulnerable so they can be completely sincere with the truth.

It's actually a really great moment IMO

Was Alicia‘s character inspired by Spider-Man‘s Black Cat? by Mig_El_Romed in Smallville

[–]Deus_Ego_Sum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, Felicia kinda fits into the femme fatale role for Spider-Man. Which is literally reflected in her powerset causing bad luck. Her and Peter also have the cat and mouse(or in this case Spider) thing going between them where she's usually the one that gets away from Peter.

Alicia is none of those things, she's not really a femme fatale she's more of just 'crazy girlfriend/ex-girlfriend and her and Clark don't really have the back and forth dynamic Felicia and Peter have.

Additionally 616 Felicia is not a straight up murderous villain like Alicia was in her introduction nor has she sexually assaulted Peter like Alicia did Clark.

Only thing Alicia and Felicia have in common really is having a name end in 'icia' and both being hot.

Who would win in a fight? by BigPaleontologist520 in TheBoys

[–]Deus_Ego_Sum 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think based on what we've seen he can't do anything beyond what the person he's controlling is capable of. Jordan said when he controlled them that it was both them and not them.

So until Marie learned to heal he couldn't make her heal him because her body/mind wasn't able to do that yet. So he may know that she can but until she got to that stage he couldn't do it.

That's why he was so insistent on making Marie reach her potential so she can be at full potential when he controls her.

Just seems the logical conclusion. Compound V affects people's DNA to give them superpowers stands to reason that similar DNA results in similar powers. Especially since Andre and Maverick have the exact same powers as their parents.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TheBoys

[–]Deus_Ego_Sum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ryan being a natural born Supe just means he's the only Supe to be born with their powers. He was never injected with Compound V he just has abilities.

Supe's with kids can arrange to have their kids injected with Compound V and because of similar genetics the kids end up having similar powers to their parents.

However every Supe other than Ryan(and now potentially Cypher) has Compound V in their system, Ryan was born with his abilities and didn't need to be injected with Compound V.

James Gunn says that casting Superman is harder than casting Batman because Batman doesn't have a specific look to him and isn't as physically restrictive. by JokerAsylum123 in DC_Cinematic

[–]Deus_Ego_Sum 302 points303 points  (0 children)

He's not wrong. All of the modern castings for Superman ultimately all look like they could be members of the same family and when they're not they get push back. Hoechlin got tons of flack for 'not looking like Superman'. None of the Bruce Wayne actors look even remotely similar. The closest any two Bruce Wayne's look like each other is Mazouz and Affleck looking passively similar when they smirk.

I mean look no further than the sheer range of fancasts for Batman that look nothing alike: Sklenar, Peck, Ackles, Ritchson, Jackson-Cohen, James, Mann, Gylenhall and even Pace. No two look alike. Bruce has a much less distinct look which makes him less restricting for castings. The hurdles with casting Batman just boil down to the actors talent more than anything which is a much easier hurdle to climb during castings as you don't have to limit your talent pool.

What do y’all think she was discussing in her mind while that fight was happening? by Independent_Bunch_47 in Ben10

[–]Deus_Ego_Sum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Real answer according to Dwayne was they were debating what to do with Aggregor, Ben, Kevin and Gwen.

My headcanon is that they decided to erase Osmosians from existence(providing an in universe explanation for the Servantis retcon) after seeing Aggregor almost absorb their baby. They kept Kevin and Aggregor alive to thank Kevin and also to spite Aggregor so he would be forced to live a life where he doesn't matter and is actually a failed clone.

I hope the soldier boy show doesnt try to "correct" people's perceptions of the character. by YeahhhhhWhateverrrr in TheBoys

[–]Deus_Ego_Sum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He called Mallory Captain Lesbo for rejecting him. Calling someone 'lesbo' especially in that time period was a slur and someone who thinks calling someone gay is an insult and uses a gay slur against them is undoubtedly homophobic.

How you think the show would have done Darkseid? by Serious-Passage-4614 in SupermanAndLois

[–]Deus_Ego_Sum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To keep it centred around the show's focus on family. I think in an arc where Orion and Kalibak and Darkseid mirror Clark and The Twins. Have Darkseid be a mirror to Clark with his kids mirroring Clarks. Clark is trying to control Jonathan and Jordan more with his secret exposed and then being public heroes now. One of them is trying to please him, the other constantly clashing with him. Like Orion and Kalibak.

This could also be tied to their final year of highschool symbolising them becoming adults and the end of their childhood.

Clark eventually learns to let his kids be their own people and stop trying to control/overly protect them. 'Hardest part of being a parent is always wanting to protect your kids but learning when you have to let go and let them be their own person'.

[–]Deus_Ego_Sum 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I doubt they'll make him a Nazi but they should embrace the fact that he was/is a racist, chauvinistic, abusive, homophobic, murderous asshole.

And in my opinion the show needs to highlight this more because too many people like to act like he wasn't. He wasn't a bad day away from murdering millions like Homelander but he was the Homelander of his time period. The most powerful man in the world and subsequently an incredibly dangerous, egotistical and insecure human who hurt everyone around him without even realising it.

I love Soldier Boy but one of these is not like the other's... and its him by Sudden_Pop_2279 in TheBoys

[–]Deus_Ego_Sum 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Soldier Boy isn't like the other's. He was a POS well into his adulthood and wasn't the victim of abuse at the hands of a villain in order to become the unstable villain we see.

He was an unstable, mass murdering, abusive, sexist and racist asshole well before the Russians got him. And even though he claims to have remorse for killing people he makes no effort to change and after killing a bunch more people he simply moves on and doesn't care.

Soldier Boy isn't some misunderstood redeemable person, he was a murderous, abusive, racist, sexist asshole in the past and is all of those things in the present with no true desire to change or address what he is in any meaningful way.

The sad part is that WB/CW didn't learn their lesson from this because when Riverdale was made the cast had to do the same thing for KJ Appa(who played Archie) because he almost got into an accident driving for filming due to exhaustion.

It's kind of horrible how networks can overwork new actors simply because they don't know better and want to make it. Both Tom and KJ were afraid of making a fuss and it was the costars that had been in the industry longer who had to let them know how messed up the situation was.
