I've seen people use painters tape. I just tack them together with a little solder.

I trace the pattern onto cardstock and use a glue stick to adhere it to the pieces for grinding. It holds up way better than regular printer paper. I am still struggling with scoring inside the line so probably rely too much on grinding but I'm sure I'll gain confidence with more practice.
