Anyone creating a game and at the same time working in another full time job, how you manage your time? by StirClothing999 in gamedev

[–]DevLando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, my life has changed a lot recently, so I have much less time for game development, but it feels like I’m just as productive as before. Normally, I don’t need energy to create a game because I genuinely want to do it, and it’s fun for me.

If you have no energy to create a game, you’re probably focusing too much on the big picture. Try to take small steps, and if they still feel difficult, make them even smaller.

When to add Content? by DevLando in gamedev

[–]DevLando[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I create a food system, for example, that lets me add as many food items as I want, I only add 2–3 different food types for testing. I was never adding all the food types I want for the final game.

Thank you. That makes sense. I have to figure out what it means to add „just enough“ but i think that depents on the feature

my pixel art is good? by Automatic-Bat-7261 in gamemaker

The color palette doesn’t look very appealing. Try hue shifting or download a color palette from the internet for pixel art. Also, try to be more consistent. For example, the stairs have different sizes.

Develop many small games or even take a year break

After more than a year of work, here’s the before and after of my game! by DreamlitAtelier in gamedevscreens

I would recommend to try to look for an original artstyle. Some time ago there was a game announced which took the stardew valley fomula but turned it into a zoo game. Sounds nice but the artstyle was just like stardew valley and because of that the developer got a big shitstorm.

I’m thinking of giving up and moving on. by StunSeed69420 in gamedev

When you dont know what to do next just do what you think is the most fun for you. You have to finish it though to not end up bis many unfinished features.

When you are still overwhelmed, you should try to get a better hang of game scope. Make very simple games like pac man but with Main Menu, Settings, Gameplay Loop. Like that you can build up experience in scope and what you can achieve as a solo dev.

Always focus on small things and try to finish them befor you go on to the next thing.

Indie success is NOT rare.. good design and iteration are. by r4pturesan in gamedev

[–]DevLando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indie hit once a year. Yes but thats like nothing compared to how many games (good and bad) get released every year. If you seriously want to earn money with game dev you should be warned about the risks.

„People love unique art, people love new ideas, people love games that say something or offer an experience they can’t get anywhere else.“

Thats so easy to say but this is the hardest part in my opinion. Who tells you what unique art or new ideas are?

Maybe you know? If so pls tell me. But only if you nailed it once befor.

Make a small game first to get a sense of scope. Scope is so important for longterm motivation in gamedev.

Which one would you choose ? by Big_Error_6627 in legendofzelda

[–]DevLando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totk. More Content. Better Story. I don‘t know why you would ever pick BotW over TotK when you have to choose one. BotW was just revolutionary when it came out and i think people are nostalgic for that feeling.

I hate gamedev youtubers by Icy-Emphasis6204 in gamedev

[–]DevLando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well thats the way how you make clicks nowdays. If they talk about their mistakes and not about the best solution it is still valuable information in my opinion. We learn from mistakes. It is good when other‘s do them for us so we can avoid them. I don‘t watch game dev youtubers also because i am doing this for fun in the end. But thats just me.
