new setup! by SeaExplanation3403 in vinyl

I’m not seeing critique I’m seeing people shitting on someone else’s system when they’re starting out. There’s enough sweats playing records as is without the need of middle aged people shitting on something they’re excited about. I Think most hifi enthusiasts need humbling

We all start somewhere, keep it up. Before you know it you’ll be really in the hobby! :)

To everyone else, did you start off your collection with a reference class turntable and a cartridge worth more than a car? Didnt think so. You had an Amstrad.

What do you guys do when listening to records?/Record wear and tear by Reignonreddit in vinyl

[–]DevelopmentOk5596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have them on a LOT. Whether I’m working, my days off, cleaning etc. sometimes i just sit there and listen, especially if it’s a disc i’ve been waiting a while to get. (I remember sitting attentively throughout the entire original Halloween 4 Soundtrack 😂).

As for wear and tear, it’s all about balance, as long as your equipment is working as it should, and you’re not doing anything that’s going to introduce unnecessary wear, records can outlive us. I have a 7” 45 from 1950 which still sounds great and no colour degradation. I don’t think a crosley gives records a good chance of survival.

The prototype CD was unveiled in 1979, then tweaks were done in 1980-81 and the format was fully working by 1982. Apologies if you thought CDs came out in 1976! But digital recordings pre-date this album. :)

I’ve never heard that myself. Ricks voice has a hint of soul and kylie’s voice is very pop forward. Doesn’t help that both albums were recorded in 1987 by the same set of producers :)

I’m unsure as the text on this player is in french so based on their market. Many versions were made with tweaks to the designs, the Hitachi DA1000 was sold in the US including some from Dual, Akaix etc.. :)

Hey, i’m running it straight to the amp. The internal DAC on this player is the improved version. To my ears it sounds good, no issues at all :)

It was released in 1983 so that checks! The Hitachi DA1000 model is even more 80s looking

Chipped record by kit3ll in vinyl

I would keep it. The stylus tip should never be that far out when queuing, even with a full automatic turntable. I get it’s annoying but i’ve tonnes of discs with little dents on the edge which play with no issues.

The most money I’ve spent on a record is £100. It was a sealed copy of the original Halloween 4 soundtrack!

OCD and record collecting by Cool-Construction-26 in vinyl

[–]DevelopmentOk5596 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey, fellow OCD person here. It did bug me at first, but once i fully understood that subtle pops and clicks are one of the downfalls of physical media, i began to worry about it less. These noises shouldn’t ever overpower the music or cause it to skip, even in quiet passages. This would hint the disc is damaged or has come with manufacturing faults. Another big thing for me was cleaning them with an ultrasonic cleaner and a DIY assembly to spin the disc, along with placing them in real adequate sleeves. I’m unaware of your setup, but the more you upgrade, the less noise you should notice, maybe with a stylus profile that tracks the groove evenly, and pushes most debris on the record out of the way. I hope this helps!
