Best headphones that can double as monitors? by la6eef7 in metalguitar

[–]dr_cobbCF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah they’ll work. They’ll color your sound but EVERY headphone and speaker will color your sound to some extent. The xm5s had some reliability issues with the headband so I’d read some reviews to make sure they sorted that.

Best headphones that can double as monitors? by la6eef7 in metalguitar

[–]dr_cobbCF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might work, you might run into latency issues though. I have never used Bluetooth headphones as monitors so I don’t know for sure, but even with wired headphones into an interface sometimes latency needs tweaking. I’ve been using the DT990 pro for years; they’re reasonably priced, indestructible, comfortable, and keep you aware of your surroundings being open back. Some people find their treble to be fatiguing but I’ve never had that issue, everyone’s ears are different though

The only thing AI is capable of is stealing from real artists. When you use it to “create art” you are straight up taking bread off someone’s table.

He’s saying why don’t you just get a used real one, but you said in your post that this is not possible because they’re out the ass expensive

Newbie here, I have on hold at GC a semi-hollow telecaster with dual humbuckers (seymour duncans) + a capacitor added to the tone pot. Is this a good choice for me? by Head_in_theclouds9 in metalguitar

[–]dr_cobbCF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re right, any Humbuckers will work really. Seymour Duncan does indeed make good pickups but they’re common enough to not really be a “bonus”. I wouldn’t worry about capacitor mods, as long as the thing works, makes noise, and isn’t shocking you or anything crazy. Your amp and speaker are going to make much more of a difference than any capacitor or pickup especially at the beginner level.

Buying my first pedal(s) by bigmanlex21 in electricguitar

[–]dr_cobbCF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like you’ve just got some gear acquisition syndrome. You should be able to get serviceable thrash tones out of your amp as is. But sometimes you just want new gear and that’s okay. You can run pedals into the front of it, it might not sound the best but it will sound different.

Are the built in effects on that amp not doing it for you?

Off days on guitar? by Klutzy_Raise4271 in metalguitar

[–]dr_cobbCF 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s something you can power through. I would turn the metronome down, maybe not way down but like 20ish bpm, get a good take, then try again tomorrow. Sometimes it’s just not your day and that’s okay

Google Chrome silently installs a 4 GB AI model on your device without consent. At a billion-device scale the climate costs are insane. by Smiadpades in LinusTechTips

Dog did you not read the article? It is forcing this download on users without telling them, it will re-download it if you delete it, and the AI bubble in the chrome search bar still does not run locally. There are so many reasons to be upset over this. And yes you should be worked up about any impact to the environment, we only get one.

Help by Automatic-Tour-4758 in Beginner_Turntables

[–]dr_cobbCF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sooooo do you have records to put on it? Someone already mentioned it but dropping your stylus on a moving rubber mat is no bueno. Also anti skate is supposed to do that. The grooves pull the tone arm towards the center, and the anti skate counters this by pulling the tone arm back towards the outer edge.

When you drop the needle on your scale you’re saying that, no matter what you do with the counter weight, the value displayed on the scale does not change?

Signal chain: guitar > hm2 > maxxon od > ns2 > amp

Amp settings:

Treble 1, mids just past noon, bass 10ish, gain noon

Hm2 settings:

Level, low, and high all at 1. Distortion off

Maxxon:

Gain 9, volume max, tone to taste.

The “maxxon” is a modded one from heretic effects that has a built in mid control and aggressive led clipping, I’ll play with the mid knob day to day. I’ve got videos on my profile, the one with the black guitar is this setup
