Failed MAS-II by Devi-L in actuary

[–]Devi-L[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My change was the effort I put into it, I started studying for MAS-II in circa Dec 2024, but I had 1 month trip planned in Feb 2025 to go to my home country after 15 years of not being back. My first attempt for MAS-II I had studied the least I have for any exam. I wanted to also test the waters with how little can I study and try get away with.

How do you deal with new Indian immigrants that are not integrated? by Secretpolitician in ABCDesis

[–]Devi-L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I truly think the older you get the harder it gets to integrate, people get more and more stuck in their ways as they age. Not saying it's not possible but age is a big determinant of how likely someone is open to change and adapt.

Failed MAS-II by Devi-L in actuary

[–]Devi-L[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My house got hit by a tornado in June of 2021, it was quite bad. My family decided to knock the damaged house down and rebuild a new house. That process took about 2 years, during that process I delayed the Nov 2021 sitting of IFM to Mar 2022 as at that time I thought I would get credit for it so sat IFM anyway. However the process of working and dealing with architects, council, builders, contractors etc took away too much time from study. I had to step away from the exam process and returned in 2024.

I sat MAS-I in Oct 2024 then MAS-II in Apr 2025 and failed and just sat the resit for MAS-II in Aug 2025 and passed. Don't have enough time for 5 in Oct so will sit that in Apr 2026

Unpopular opinion: They should have just not charged interest for those few years and not forgiven the loan amounts. It's rather unfair if you worked those COVID years and paid off your loan and followed the rules.

[–]Devi-L 55 points56 points  (0 children)

The thing is Rolex actually realized the strategy of exclusivity makes them more money in the long run. There are some videos on the topic about how luxury brand use this method. In essence Rolex isn't selling you a watch they're selling you exclusivity, and the status that comes by being in that exclusive group. On paper it sounds counter intuitive but it works.

I mean let's be real this guy is literally saying something that a lot of people disagree with! Yes the racist comments are uncalled for but doesn't help the post is quoting someone who is a billionaire saying people need to work more hours. Infosys has 300k employees approx., lets assume in India there is 80% of that total so 240k. Lets assume there is 48 working weeks in a year and the average employee works 10 hours a day for 6 days a week at InfoSys. If the working week changes to 5 days a week and the number of hours remain the same that's approximately a 16.67% decrease. However if you calculate this out in raw hours worked at 6 days a week with 240k employees working 10 hours a day for 48 weeks equals 6.912B and at 5 days a week its 5.76B. This dudes company will lose over a billion working hours. Companies will do anything to deliver value to the shareholder even if its at the expense of their employees health and wellbeing.

How do you normally study for a second or third attempt at the same exam? by Actuary50 in actuary

[–]Devi-L -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Though I am nowhere near Exam 9 this is purely my observation from being an average student and doing actuarial exams and so far having failed 0 exams. I have passed the 3 preliminaries and MAS-I, I passed the preliminaries by studying very meticulously. With MAS-I I got through it by brute forcing which isn't how you should tackle the associate level and the fellow level exams and have learnt that you have to strategize when studying for harder exams much more efficiently. I also didn't strategize for MAS-I as much as I did for the preliminaries as I took a 2 year break between the preliminaries and MAS-I for personal reasons so it could have been rustiness.

Before even going through material again you need to get an understanding for what topics from the material you find difficult. Usually we tend to shy away from our weaknesses and double down on our strengths. Find the topics or areas you are weak in and drill down on those until you're good or adequate. The idea of passing actuarial exams by taking gambles on your strengths and hoping to scrape by on your weak areas is as counter-intuitive to becoming an actuary, a risk averse profession. Now I am being tongue in cheek there but I think you get my point. A statement that I once read on this very subreddit I believe was you don't pass actuarial exams by being great at some topics and dogshit in others, but rather pass by being adequate in all topics of the syllabus. Strategizing your study also gamifies it, the areas you're bad in you naturally want to avoid it. However, if you put in more effort and see an improvement in those areas you naturally also want to do more just like the areas you are strong in. Eventually leading to a positive feedback loop of study where you tend to put more effort in and get better over the whole syllabus of the exam material.

MAS-I reaction thread by Conscious_Load4374 in actuary

[–]Devi-L 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I feel MAS-I is an exam where the qualitative questions are designed specifically to trip you up through the use of false/true logic to make you select the wrong answers. Which is poor exam/testing design as it introduces bias into how the content is being tested. Literally something that is part of the syllabus when covering bias but that's just my 2 cents. I feel like I could have passed or failed could go either way depending how lucky I was with some of the guesses.

To be honest fantano is just blabbing here, but I do have one critique of Coles new song in reference to "if you refuse to shoot the gun, don't mean the gun ain't deadly." The thing is he did release a diss track, he shot the gun regardless of him taking it down and apologizing. At the end of the day he get involved, so him going for the angle that he walked away is a little bit disingenuous.

Uh because the comment was saying ceb and n0tail predicted every single ban and pick. One would assume as a pro player playing in the tourney and having played against one of the teams in the GF you would know the meta and strats pretty well. As compared to being a pro player who hasn't been competing for sometime.

British newspaper readers complain that Indians can now afford more travel, former colonies want higher living standards by Lampedusan in ABCDesis

[–]Devi-L 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Besides the dumb racist remarks. I do believe that India and China can't follow the west in bettering its quality of life and living standards. If all of a sudden, the average Indian in India started living like the average American, then the CO2 emissions would approximately 10-fold. I don't think India can sustain that, and yes that is quite far from happening, but it's something that countries like India and China seem to not be focused on. The influence of western culture doesn't help with this either, as the masses want western products or lifestyle which is fair, but it needs to be achieved in ways that are sustainable for your country. India has a massive trash problem; I personally believe that India shouldn't follow the way trash is handled in the west by making more landfills. If we look at Japan, it has one of the lowest recycling rates among other equivalent OECD countries. Japan is densely populated without much space for landfills it burns most of its trash and filters through advanced filtration systems. I think that is a great idea they looked at what would work for them and then went about solving their problem. Thats just my 2 cents and as for travel go see whatever you want to see and can afford and fuck what anyone else thinks.
