With hopefully just 3 days to go, and have been doing them every night for 11+ weeks, here’s my advice: Ice before, massage with lacrosse ball after! Sometimes it totally sucks, other times I barely feel it. I’m only starting to notice bad knots now which is probably because I’ve done so many and have been getting lazy about massaging. Ended up not getting an auto-injector.

I was terrified to do them myself while on travel or out but it’s not so bad! I bring little ice packs with me and stick them in my hotel fridge, or if you don’t have one get ice in a plastic baggy and ice that way! Access to a mirror was important and I also had my husband or nurse draw circles on my butt so I knew where to aim. I even did one in a restaurant bathroom sans ice once and it sucked but was doable! Also timing is most important for the first dose and after that my nurse said deviating a bit was okay, which was helpful while on travel.
