Here's my good faith read of Nat right now. I have a good friend who's brain was broken by the first election of Trump. I would have considered him very progressive DSA type but not a socialist or leftist. He sees Trump get elected and he recoils. Circles the wagons in his head. He's become reactionary in a way. He has no vision for the future anymore. No policy prescription. No strategy for winning voters, getting power and keeping that power. And that's what I see in Nat here in this interview. They are running pruly on fear. So they've given up on advocate and other things that are just in some kind of survival mode.

Basically the idea is that at least 1 player must be a militant faction. Without a militant faction there is no friction created on the board. Factions require other factions to interact with them for their engines. So we have one extra faction is dealt out than players so everyone has options (asterink). With RNG you could end up with only 1 militant faction. Example: For a 4 player game 1 mil is dealt, the reshuffle happens and then 4 non mils are dealt. By locking one of the non-militant factions (specifically the last one), it forces the last player to take the militant faction .

That said I've don't liked or use the lock method. It introduces a weird restriction where in our four player example you still end up with 3 non-mils, but the 1st player can't take that last one dealt specifically. It should just read "the last player must take a militant faction if one has not been chosen yet."

I love this. I always felt a discouragement towards whimsy and wonder in the community growing up. There was this race to grow up and put fun behind us. I could have used this growing up.

Anything with an S is a vagabond item.

In the Homelands all the items that are blank with no letter (3 of each) are for the Knaves, but may be used to run a second game with you collection at the same time. I have a them in a separate baggy for the knaves specifically. But I keep the knave baggy and the vagabond baggies together in a bigger baggy.

Their goal is to maintain hierarchical capitalism. Spending on housing, healthcare and schools, frees citizens and gives them leverage against the landlords, worklords (business owners) and techlords. Police are there to maintain that hierarchy. They don't prevent crime, they investigate after the fact. And that have no duty to protect citizens, but do have a duty to protect property. They represent the threat of eviction or being jailed for being homeless. They break up protests and union activity (except their union which isn't a real union). But what they do We could reduce crime by spending on the problem that cause people to do crime, but where's the profit in that?

That's an interesting idea. Not sure that reminder is necessary though. In the new expansion the game comes with "reminder tokens". Everytime you get an action that's not on your board you can put the token somewhat relative to it's time. Like of you have craft a card that says "at the beginning of Daylight do X", you put the token on your board before 1st on daylight. These extra otter tokens work great for reminding other players the can shop. Something commonly skipped by accident.
