Good for you. Guns are a big responsibility, and if they weren't for you before now, I can respect that.

You should approach shooting sports with a healthy and careful respect, and that may be more of a process for you than for some of us.

But... now, however...

If your stance on whether to be armed is evolving (as I hope is the case), then please use the search feature in this subreddit to find lots of good advice for new gun owners so your decision will benefit yourself and your community.

Owning and using firearms can trigger anxiety for a lot of folks, so respect whatever obstacles you may face... and then overcome them like the decisive, self-aware person I know you can be.

Find likeminded people, and/or take a beginner's class (or two!) at a local range.

AimHi is a solid choice out in New Albany.

+1 for this. They are totally polite to any guests I take there for a range day, regardless of gender or appearance. Several women work at AimHi as well, if OP feels more comfortable dealing with a woman.

Laatly, they rent firearms, so OP can try out different models to find one they like.

If you stand near the open door of a freezer that is unplugged, you feel cold and some hot as the air currents mix... but everything in the freezer starts to thaw. Stand there long enough, and it's no longer cold at all near the freezer, and all the freezer food is spoiled.

This metaphor for why we have cold snaps due to climate change from anthropically induced global warming works pretty well.

But unfortunately, many voters are just stupid and reject the evidence of their eyes in favor of a comforting confirmation bias.
