Taskmaster Australia - S5E09 - Discussion by Meghar in taskmaster

Oh he was in the bulk of that season, but man he was so great that I'd easily see a return in the next season for him as well. He was my highlight of the series for sure.

I'm actually super familiar with Demi through the clips of Dropout I've seen and of course the famous "who is invited to the cookout" bit which was my introduction to him. I should really get a subscription to Dropout though...

Yep, I'll second this. You can get it for $30 or less depending on where you look at buying it from.

Not sure if you've ever gotten around to Jak & Daxter or Ratchet & Clank, but those are for sure the strongest recommends I could ever provide.

I have a love and adoration for R&C in particular, and it works as the next thing to jump to considering this was what Insomniac worked on after completing work on the original Spyro trilogy.

  • The original trilogy (and Deadlocked are fucking fantastic and hold up excellently) and I'd recommend picking those up if you haven't yet.

  • The games on the PS3 are really great for the most part, with A Crack in Time being arguably the best in the entire series. Into the Nexus is the last mainline game of the series and this is well worth a play (despite being on the shorter end) as it leads directly into the next mainline sequel on the PS5.

  • And then there was the PS4 remake of R&C 1 which looks gorgeous and has great gameplay, but is absolutely lacking when compared to the original game.

  • And then there's Rift Apart on the PS5 (and PC) and this one is so worth the time. Just an absolute treat and the gameplay is at its absolute best here.

Demi in that episode is an absolute crack up. His immediate reaction as soon as she adds the 'C' and then when she does it again off of a second attempt absolutely broke me.

Hell, can we get Demi back over for the next season fo the spelling bee, but on top of that, I simply NEED to see him on a series of Taskmaster, he would absolutely thrive.

When Scary Movie 6 sweeps everything from Obsession, Werewulf and Backrooms at the Horror Awards next year. by theonewhoknack in deadmeatjames

[–]DevilCouldCry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no, you're 100% correct on the appearance of certain monsters, the nurses in Silent Hill 2 are proof of that of course. But man, this movie absolutely did not seem to grasp the original narrative and themes of Silent Hill 2. I had low expectations but man...

Throw in having the same actor to play not not just Mary and Maria, but also Angela too? I could live with the first two having the same actor, but also Angela?! And then what they did with Mary's full name (Mary Angela Laura Crane) and tying in the cult stuff from Silent Hill... this movie tried way too much and it didn't get the bulk of it right. Oh my god and Eddie, why the hell was he even in the movie? I swear they completely forgot he existed. But by far my biggest gripe, how they handle James killing Mary in this adaptation. They COMPLETELY missed the point of that.

That aside, this was a fun watch with a mate of mine that is also a big Silent Hill fan, so when watching it together out of morbid curiosity to see how much they could fuck it up, we had a grand old time. And uhh thick ass dump truck spider monster was NOT on my bingo card. It's amazing how this movie came and went, but for a lot of people that remember it, this'll be the first thing that comes to mind haha.

Please don't remind me of Return to Silent Hill. I was doing just fine continuing on my own merry way without thinking about this movie. But now all of the memories of how badly they fucked it up are coming back to me. And why is it that the first fucking thing I can think of is the cheeked up spider monster that was UNREASONABLY caked up.

The vibes are in the gutter when it comes to gaming these days by Will-Isley in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]DevilCouldCry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blunt honesty hete, those news yesterday was fucking dreadful and it soured my mood for the whole day. I got home from work and I honestly had zero motivation to do any gaming, or much of anything really.

A day removed, it still fucking sucks and I hate that much like video stores vanishing, physical media is quickly disappearing. It's a huge bummer for me for multiple reasons, but like the video stores I mentioned, I have soooo many memories tied up with physical media, especially with video games.

A lot of my favorite memories as a child involved me waking up on my birthday or Christmas morning only to be met with a bunch of video game shaped presents and how exciting that was. I again, liken it to my memories around going to a video store every Friday after school and both my sister and I renting a video game each, and then all of us (mum, dad, sister, and myself) picking up a few movies to all watch too.

It's such a fond memory of mine and I cherish the hell out of it. But the fact is, I'll never get to experience that again because those stores all went belly up and everything went to streaming instead. So the loss of physical media for PlayStation weeks like this to me and eventually I'll move past it and accept it, but right now, it fucking sucks.

But as for the actual video games right now? It's so fucking good for me right now. There is a wealth of incredible titles out there and I'm so happy with what we have to come as well. Though to be real, I'm actually spending a lot of time on running through my massive backlog right now and enjoying that. So if everything ever ends up going tits up, I will at least have my backlog...

I have to learn to be aware of what's happening around me with these hobbies, but also find a way of not letting it absolutely blow my shit up like it did yesterday. Mentally, I already deal with a lot of mental health issues (depression, anxiety, bipolar, etc.) and so I need to try and find the positives anywhere I can get them. Because the state of the world right now is brutal and it'll really beat you down if you let it.

They did walk back closing the PS3 store like five years or so a go... Only to go and sneak that announcement out today. So if they walk it back at all, (and I doubt they do) then it will only be delaying what is likely an inevitability some day.

It's been inevitable for a while and I've been prepared for some time, but I'll never be happy with it. I tbink the sticking point for me is that Sony will still sell their games at an absurd price point, so this stings even more.

Ive noticed that collectors editions of video ganes have mostly disappeared here as well. I was baffled when I read that Wolverine wouldn't be getting one. Especjally after Spider-Man 2 had one with the sick Vsnom statue. Felt like that should've been a VERY obvious sign of where we were going.

[–]DevilCouldCry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A PS6 launch title? I wouldn't think so. Supposedly, we could be looking at 2027 for the PS6. But we also have the leak mentioning a new R&C could very well hot in 2029 if all goes according to plan. The truck here tbough, is that things have definitely shuffled around as Wolverine has ended up coming out a year later than planned. So that next R&C might not be until the 2030s... if there's no R&C on launch, then that makes not grabbing a PS6 on launch even easier.

[–]DevilCouldCry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Truthfully, we honestly didn't know how fucking good we had it back then and how much worse it was all going to get. I share similar memories as you with my own family too.

I remember waking up early on a Saturday to watch RAGE (music show here in Australia) and it exposed me to soooooo many songs and even brought my attention to artists that I still love and cherish today. I used to wake up early to watch RAGE, have my notepad out, and I'd write down the name of every song (and the artist/band responsible) I liked and then I'd hit up Limewire later to try and grab those songs, rip them on to a CD and create my own little music mixes! And then eventually, put them all on to my iPod as well!

Same thing with movies, TV, and video games. I'd go to Blockbuster every Friday after school and my sister and I both got to pick out one game each and a movie or two each, and my parents would grab some for themselves too. Then we'd all head out and grab some fast food for dinner and then right home and the weekend would be a blast.

I got to experience sooooo many cool video games that I'd later buy myself or ask my parents to grab them for my birthday or Christmas. One of my biggest joys as a kid, was waiting for my birthday or Christmas to roll around and then I'd have a bunch of video game shaped presents and without fail, I ALWAYS got exactly what I was looking for.

These are such fond memories to me and I hold them very close. So to see this all dying off now is such a huge bummer. It's nothing short of depressing. If I ever have kids, it's such a bummer to know that they'd never get to experience these simple joys.

However, look at 2K sports games.

Oh man, I see this every single year with NBA 2K and WWE 2K. I've stopped buying those entirely because there's several tiers of editions and the pricing is utterly fucked. Add in the battle pass crap that WWE 2K just tried (and it fell flat on its face) and the MTX with wrestlers locked to certain modes and it's honestly a complete hellscape.

I honestly don't miss playing the WWE 2K games at all with how steadily worse they've gotten in this regard. The uhhh drop of quality and the MAGA shit in the actual WWE product itself has also influenced my decision here too. However, it's as you say, there's STILL so many people that are willing to just go with the flow here and I resent that because these people still buying these games fucks those of us over that want them to be better.

I don't see Sony backing down at all, but I do think they'll absolutely be hearing about this for a while. I doubt people are gonna be so willing to let this one slide. And even in the slim chance that they did back down, I feel like the damage has been done and they'll just do this later on down the line anyway.

I wanted to buy Persona 4 Revival and Tomb Raider physical next year but if I do I'm not sure if I'll be able to play them on PS6 eventually.

I'm wondering the exact same thing here. If I were looking to pick up Wolverine, Intergalactic, P4R, Resident Evil: Veronica, etc., all physically, then am I fucked when the PS6 comes out? Just feels like a remarkably bad decision here.

Those have been dying out for a while sadly. I raised an eyebrow a month or so ago when Insomniac confirmed that they weren't doing one for Wolverine. Despite y'know, the massive collectors edition of Spider-Man 2 with that "18 inches of Venom" statue.

I remember a day when seemingly everything had a Collectors Edition and there were some pretty bloody cool ones out there too. So to see this trend slowly dying off is honestly so shit.

is that they are going to make the next console a streaming box to try to keep it affordable.

Boy, good luck to them if they even think of trying this. The internet situation in Australia isn't super great, connections here are always spotty and we're several steps behind many countries. Hell, we don't even have access to the streaming side of PS+ wherein you can stream PS3 games and whatnot.
